Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition is one of best remastered game in recent years which has seen many optimizations and positive changes. That being said, some old technical issues like inconsistent camera angles are still present. Nevertheless, Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition delivers an amazing experience from Start to finish.

But the base game, Beyond Good & Evil, is still a great time. Parts of its design feel dated today, sure, but considering this game is 21 years old, it holds up remarkably well. I was happy to be reminded of one of my favorite GameCube games and its eclectic cast of characters, and I can only hope that they will live on in some future Ubisoft game.
Don't miss out on Beyond Good & Evil. It's a great game that deserves to be played, and while I do have issues, some of which are not inherent to the game (like requiring Ubisoft Connect), it is well worth the price.
Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary Edition is not only the definitive version of Jade's adventure, but an example of how remasters of games from that era can feature relevant improvements and add extras to celebrate the historical legacy of these works. Some more dragged aspects have not aged very well and remind us of the age of the game, but the charisma of the adventure and the good use of the opening of the compact world still make it deserve this well-cared for return.

Is Beyond Good & Evil: 20th Anniversary Edition worth playing? Definitely yes. I spent about 10 hours with this production and had a great time - the time passed completely unnoticed. The game offers an excellent storyline, an interesting world and interesting mechanical solutions. Although most of the battles are relatively simple, the camera can sometimes go crazy and obscure the screen, and the game suffers from a few minor flaws, this does not significantly affect the overall impression.

On the whole, Beyond Good & Evil 20th Anniversary offers a similar experience to the original opus. However, this is not a shortcoming - on the contrary. The developers didn't have to alter the original, but they did incorporate a number of interesting new features. Whether it's the integration of automatic saves, the extra mission to bridge the gap to the next game or the revised textures, the title offers a fluid experience. Its price, at the lower end of the market, also allows the community to return or discover this classic. Just don't forget that the gameplay hasn't always aged well, and while the visual appearance has been improved, the same cannot be said for the sensations once the controller is in hand.

Two decades later, Beyond Good & Evil - 20th Anniversary Edition still is a pioneering, unique game. The scars of time are very noticeable and the need for a remake was bigger than a remaster but it's still a must as a narrative. It does show its age here and there (the insta-fail stealth sections and occasionally fiddly camera stand out as the worst offenders), but it’s impressive just how well everything manages to hold up. Add to that the cool new content that has come with the game and it’ll be easy to see that this is the best way to experience this beloved cult classic. Now… where’s Beyond Good & Evil 2?!

With the 20th Anniversary Edition, Ubisoft has clearly put more effort into it than just a graphical update. Some new missions have been added to unravel Jade's past, all as an introduction to Beyond Good & Evil 2. A speed-run mode has also been added to make the whole package even more complete. Despite its age, Beyond Good & Evil remains a worthwhile experience in 2024. Jade is still a great protagonist and the world of Hillys is unique to explore. The game focuses more on exploration than combat. Design, music and good writing together create an atmospheric experience where it doesn't really matter that the rest feels outdated. This remaster of Beyond Good & Evil is highly recommended for both new and old players. It is also refreshing to play a game where the gameplay is much more straightforward instead of all kinds of vague battle passes, microtransactions and difficult systems. For just €20 you can get this cult classic for modern systems, a no-brainer in our opinion. Let's hope that more information will follow soon about the successor.
