There are games that remind us why we fell in love with video games in the first place. In my opinion, Astro Bot is one of those games. It’s a phenomenally polished title, featuring great audiovisuals and, above all, brilliant gameplay that never gets boring. It's also a family-friendly game, perfect for everyone to enjoy together.

Astro Bot is considered the celebration Sony has cooked for the 30th anniversary of PlayStation, and boy, what a celebration this is! So, in addition to being a phenomenal showcase for PlayStation's legacy and its rich history throughout the 30 years, it is also a great game made with great passion and love for this industry. The game offers a great level design and brilliant gameplay ideas, with stunning visuals and a great soundtrack. However, the game may have suffered a bit for giving fresh ideas in its second half, and despite the frustration, this hasn’t affected my experience with the game a lot because of how great those levels are designed. So, I really enjoyed my time with Astro Bot and of course, it is a must-play.

From PlayStation references to charming interactions with other Bots, there’s a treat on every level. It’s wild to think that Sony finally has a platformer that rivals the excellent 3D Super Mario Games, but Team Asobi really did it. Don’t miss out on one of the best platforming experiences in gaming history with Astro Bot.

Quite simply, Astro Bot is a more complete experience than its predecessor, featuring all the key elements that made the franchise such a success. The developers at Team Asobi have come up with their biggest project to date, leaving us wanting more and more. Even after I'd finished the game 100%, I still wanted to play levels over and over again. Progression is addictive, and the art direction pays homage to the world of video games. Leaving aside the few problems of inaccuracy due to the genre, for me, the title is already a benchmark for 3D platform games!

Using Astro’s Playroom as a template, Team Asobi delivered a bigger and better 3D platformer with Astro Bot. This latest series entry features creative levels and mechanics that are a joy to play. And while it’s accessible to players of all skill levels, it has enough challenges to satisfy platforming experts. To top it all off, it’s an excellent tribute to PlayStation’s various iconic and lesser-known characters. Even if Astro Bot doesn’t seem like the type of game that you’d play, it’s very much worth playing given the sheer fun that you can have with its creative platforming gameplay. As such, Astro Bot has the makings of PlayStation’s next big franchise.

Team Asobi's Astro Bot is proof and evidence that the best 3D platformers are timeless and will always be fun when they're well-made with passion and love, and that's exactly what Astro Bot is. The general intention of the development was to focus on easier difficulty, even if you never played platformers. So when players expect an easy and average game, they will be positively surprised by how thoughtful the experience would be. The intensity of details in the DualSense's haptic feedback and adaptive triggers allow some of the most dynamic gaming experiences ever. The players will be in for a ride for the 30 plus years of PlayStation titles and the console legacy, which were naturally blended within its gameplay.

All things considered, I’m proud to say that Astro Bot is a 3D platformer every gamer should play, not just for PlayStation fans. This lovable, adorable white and blue bot offers a mixture of fun and engaging platforming gameplay with the PS5 spin and PlayStation nostalgia to please both new and longtime fans in multiple ways. Astro Bot may not have the extensive history nor brand recognition comparable to platformers like Mario… yet.

The highest praise I can give Astro Bot is that it genuinely feels like PlayStation has its own Mario now. The gameplay, creativity and charm are competing with Nintendo's powerhouse with wonderful level design and engaging gameplay from start to finish. Only the relatively short runtime is a potential negative, and even that feels like a minor complaint. If you're a longtime PlayStation fan looking for a rush of nostalgia, a parent looking for a good game for their kids, or you just want a darn fun platformer, Astro Bot is a must-play.

It is one of a few games you'll enjoy without stress, pressure and will admire the creativity of Team Asobi.

Big-budget triple-A titles, with eye-watering visuals and interminable development cycles aren't the only way forward. And smaller games aren't just an option, they are a necessity. With Astro Bot, Team Asobi has crafted one of the best 3D platformers since Super Mario Odyssey. It's a game that is committed to being a game, to being fun and joyous and playful. It's hard to find a more vibrant title in PlayStation's stable, and Sony must invest in similar smaller games going forward. Because right now, it seems PS5 owners are stuck playing remakes and remasters while waiting for the next God of War and the next Spider-Man. Sony is sitting on multiple beloved IPs of yore, and the PlayStation parent surely must realise that people like all kinds of games, not just triple-A open-world, action-adventures. And Astro Bot is living proof of that.

However as an arcade game, Astro Bot ticks all the right boxes and really challenges the medium but in a good way with its crazy mechanics, sturdy controls and next-gen experience, particularly with the DualSense Controller.

ASTRO Bot is a platforming masterpiece that encourages exploration of not only its own worlds and planets, but also those of Sony's long gone franchises as well. A celebration of Sony's 30 years in gaming with a joyful flare you'd expect to see from its console rival. Team ASOBI has created yet another wonderful adventure that places ASTRO front and center as Sony's mascot.
