Full of ambition and packed with great boss battles, Eternal Strands doesn't land every shot it takes, but it lands enough to make it an impressive action RPG.
There's potential in the premise, and some real highs (especially when launched into the air), but it's the kind of game that makes you yearn to see what a sequel could accomplish by iterating on what worked – perhaps then we'll be in for something truly magic.
If you're in the mood for a charming adventure through a gorgeous fantasy world, Eternal Strands is worth checking out.

If you want to know if this game is for you or not, I highly suggest you give the demo a go. If you like what the game is putting down after completing that, I think you’ll enjoy it. If you don’t, I doubt the rest of the game will make you fall in love with it either. While I’m walking away from Eternal Strands with my hunger sated, I would’ve liked more adventurous appetizers and a dessert alongside the filling main course.
Eternal Strands is an action-adventure with a rather generic, if enjoyable, aesthetic and gameplay that takes a while to get going. However, when you manage to uncover its best cards, you'll find yourself immersed in a well-conceived, well-written and damn entertaining title.

I have waxes poetic about Eternal Strands for quite a while here and I am not going to lie, friends, gamers; we are starting 2025 off with a banger. Yes, I do not like the stamina system but when players are riding a dragon, chopping at its wing in hopes of making it land with that stellar soundtrack pumping; I mean it’s just a great time. I forget all about the floaty feeling movement, the stupid stamina system and any other gripes, because fighting those giant monsters and exploring this destroyed civilization is just that much fun. If you are remotely a fan of Dragon Age, Monster Hunter, Zelda, the Colossus games then I think you too will find some fun in Eternal Strands.
Eternal Strands is a pretty and yet a very shallow game, that is better be left ignored, unless you absolutely don't have anything else to play.

Eternal Strands does its best to make each of your return trips through its seven main maps as interesting as possible, slowly throwing in stronger enemies, changing up the epic monster encounters, and varying the extreme weather and time of day.
Eternal Strands does some really cool things but is held back by some baffling design decisions, lackluster writing, and melee combat that doesn't ever click.
Mixing elements from Breath of the Wild with Shadow of the Colossus sounds amazing on paper, but Eternal Strands somehow renders it a merely average experience. The gameplay loop is fine, but slightly held back by backtracking and some noticeably absent features common to the genre (like a minimap and compass). I wanted to love the story considering this has some old-school Bioware talent behind it, but the lack of a hook in the plot and some very dull characters made me want to skip dialogue often. I like Eternal Strands well enough, but there's plenty of other similar games that offer a more compelling experience.
Eternal Strands delivers a slick, action-packed fantasy adventure with tonnes of heart and a whole lot of elemental fury to play with. Despite a little tedium creeping into its late-game grinding missions, it manages to weave an unbelievable number of mechanics into a cohesive gameplay loop that feels very satisfying. On top of that, its vibrant and imaginative world is gorgeously realised and full of delicious lore for fantasy nerds to devour. An incredibly strong first offering from new indie studio Yellow Brick Games.

For fans of action RPGs who value experimentation and unique gameplay systems, this is a journey worth taking—even if it’s not without its rough patches. Eternal Strands is a big game with some big guts. It's awesome that this small team can make a game that stands tall on its own against other big names from the industry. Eternal Strands is entertaining, clever, and spontaneous. The game's different mechanics fold nicely into each other and produce a grounded gameplay loop that is super addicting. Exploring the extensive and differing lands never gets tiring and the voice acting that guides you are magnificent. Climbing is clumsy, controlling your character is incongruous, and multiple art design choices reads wrong, but everything woven together fabricates a game that is meticulous and endearing.
Eternal Strands manages to be more than a checklist of influences that market research would appreciate. This is an outrageous action adventure game that leans hard on unbelievable physics to suck the player into its setting. It can be a little hard but every problem can be solved with unconventional thinking.
Eternal Strands is full of interesting and amazing ideas that unfortunately, some of them weren't implemented and executed properly. That being said, it's still an entertaining experience nonetheless.

A solid magical action adventure on PS5
Eternal Strands is a solid debut title from Yellow Brick Games. Despite some limitations, its combat system and dynamic interaction with the environment offer a variety of tactical possibilities to face epic enemies and expand the magic arsenal to keep confronting the Enclave's threats.
