Lost Soul Aside Reviews
Lost Soul Aside had all the potential to revitalize the hack 'n' slash genre, but it falls short due to inconsistent execution. It's evident that there's passion and talent behind the project, especially in the combat system design, but it's also clear that many other essential aspects needed more polish.

Lost Soul Aside is an action-adventure RPG that had a troubled development. That becomes obvious when you start playing. It's an upoptimized mess, with a story that actively annoyed me, and gameplay that got boring and repetitive. The game just takes from others in the genre that inspire it, with no idea how to make it work. The end result is a disappointing game I can't recommend to even the most curious of players.
The core concept of Lost Soul Aside is solid, and there’s fun to be had in its combat, but it’s not something I can comfortably recommend. It’s a stylish action game that is capable of delivering high-octane encounters that would bring a smile to your face. But everything else puts too much pressure on the little good it has going for it.
The expectative for Lost Soul Aside ended up being greater than the final product. On the one hand, we have fun and exciting combat, with a good variety of powers, items, and enemies. On the other, we have a confusing and poorly developed story, as well as its characters, who also lack charisma. Although the production's outcome is positive, it fell somewhat short, being recommended only for action-adventure fans (and those willing to bear a mediocre RPG).

Lost Soul Aside is easy to recommend for those seeking a fast-paced hack-and-slash with flashy effects - but its desert-dry story and mechanics that punish exploration make it a tougher sell for anyone else.

Lost Soul Aside is an Action RPG from the Hack and Slash subgenre. The game was made by UltiZerogames in collaboration with Sony. With regard to score, the game is exactly in the middle of masterpiece and fiddling work. At the bottom of the line it is an entertaining game for the right audience.

Lost Soul Aside is a game that, despite some brilliant moments, fails to live up to the hype surrounding it. The narrative is generic, the characters unconvincing, and the level structure repeats patterns ad nauseam. The combat is fun and can excite hack & slash fans, but it suffers from imbalance, repetition, and a lack of variety.

While the game isn't what people might have expected, it's entertaining, has a reasonable length, and certainly won't be hard to finish because, hey, these give-and-take games don't hurt from time to time. That said, it won't be among the GOTY or chiriGOTY lists.

Overall, Lost Soul Aside is packed with fantastic ideas, though not all of them land. Its bombastic boss fights, beautiful character designs, and exhilarating combat make it well worth experiencing. Still, a forgettable narrative and some repetitive design keep it from fully reaching the heights it aspires to.
Despite having a solid foundation for its gameplay systems, Lost Soul Aside becomes a victim of its own ambition by attempting to tell an uninteresting and confusing story, while also making some missteps that prevent the combat from reaching its full potential, turning Yang Bing and UltiZeroGames' debut title into a major disappointment.

Lost Soul Aside lives up to its name. It’s a very beautiful action game with that ambitious indie‑game charm, though it clearly suffered from its long development cycle—perhaps for reasons beyond the developers’ control. If you’re looking for a story that will tug at your heartstrings, you’ll be a bit disappointed, because the plot here is honestly just okay at best. Perhaps its biggest flaw comes from Sony's attempt at pricing it as a AAA title, which it definitely doesn't live up to that.

Lost Soul Aside, the debut title from the China Hero Project, delivers a decent action experience with enjoyable combat, fluid combos, and some replay value through modes and weapon variety, but its unremarkable story, weak voice acting, and lack of real challenge keep it from standing out as more than a passably fun game.

Lost Soul Aside is an action-heavy, flashy adventure with fun combat but a forgettable story.
Despite its pacing issues, some design flaws, and lackluster narrative, Lost Soul Aside is a great JRPG with dynamic combat and imposing bosses that will reward your patience after a couple of hours.

Lost Soul Aside is a competent and visually striking title that features a solid combat system inspired by titles such as Devil May Cry. Its gameplay mechanics offer fluid and engaging battles, while the visual presentation delivers impressive character designs and expansive environments that elevate the overall appeal. However, its story ultimately falls short of leaving a lasting impression. The plot suffers from a lack of emotional depth and is marred by inconsistent voice acting and a script that fails to hook the players. Lost Soul Aside is not without merit, but it struggles to set itself apart in a crowded genre.
The core of the game is quite appealing. The fast-paced combat system is spectacularly presented, challenging, and enjoyable. The visual presentation, with its obvious Final Fantasy inspirations, also makes for a solid overall picture. However, there is little substance behind the facade. The individual elements of the game seem haphazard and chaotically assembled, the dull level design quickly wears thin, and the story fails to gain momentum.

Lost Soul Aside has somewhat satisfying action but a bland, exposition-heavy story, weak characters and empty level design sadly make it one of the more disappointing games of 2025.
Lost Soul Aside is a perfect example of wasted potential. Great combat is unfortunately not enough to make a good game. Virtually all other elements of the game are relics from 10 years ago or are simply poorly made. It's a shame, because the game had enormous potential and looked very good in the previews, but it's perfect proof that nowadays we can't take anything for granted.

Certain works are admired by few and then disappear into the shadows like fragile dreams, experienced only for a single night at the end of summer. Lost Soul Aside is one of these, but it allows itself a rare luxury. It focuses on gameplay, freedom of action, and, in a broader sense, the mental and manual effervescence of the video game player. Of course, there are limitations: a school-like narrative, generic art direction, and a forgettable soundtrack. But these are production sins, the result of budget and compromise, certainly not of ideas or vision. Lost Soul Aside is a successful, solid, and above all entertaining action game, with a combat system that is not afraid to be technical but also inclusive, accessible but also deep. It's a project born from the heart, and that heart is put into every hit, every parry, every cancel. It's a pure work, full of grit, passion, and personality. And that's already more than can be said for many other, much more talked-about titles.

Lost Soul Aside has ultimately left me feeling empty. Its most frustrating aspects are ones that don’t necessarily impact the actual gameplay, but the gameplay itself, while good in its best moments, isn’t enough to save this game. The end result is a forgettable and frustrating action game that I can’t recommend to even the most ravenous stylish-action fans.
