Ever 17: The Out of Infinity Reviews
For visual novel fans, or the curious, Ever 17: The Out of Infinity is an absolute must play.
On the surface, Ever 17 – The Out of Infinity tells a compelling story about a group of people in a race to survive an underwater theme park disaster. Dive deeper, though, and you'll find plenty more to discover in this sci-fi visual novel that starts strong and doesn't let up until the end(ings).
Ever 17 is weird. It’s a conventional survival story told in a very unconventional way. Its tone can turn from laid-back to dire on a dime and its traditional gal game structure gives way to some of the most shocking rug pulls you’re likely to find in any piece of fiction. If you can sit through some repetitive text and a lot of typos, you’ll find a truly special experience from one of gaming’s most under-appreciated talents.
If you're looking for a mysterious visual novel with shocking twists and provocative ideas about science, technology, and what it means to be human, you can't go wrong with Ever 17.
One of the genres biggest foundations, Ever 17: The Out of Infinity is a mandatory game for visual novel fans.

Ultimately, Ever 17 – The Out of Infinity is a must-play for fans of visual novels, especially those who love intricate, thought-provoking narratives. While it starts off slow and requires patience, the payoff is more than worth it. The remaster does a great job of bringing this classic to a modern audience while preserving what made it special in the first place.
I wish I could recommend Ever 17 - The Out of Infinity to you with all my heart. Its story is excellent and mesmerizing, featuring fascinating revelations that are as bold today as they were twenty years ago, and its presentation and accessibility are better than ever. However, I can only do so with a glaring disclaimer: for all its positive additions, the newest version of the game has a nauseating dose of foreshadowing, which lessens the impact of its biggest twists. Ever 17 doesn't live and die by its surprises, but its brilliance isn't as splendid without them.

The science fiction storytelling of Ever 17: The Out of Infinity makes this an extended thought provoking adventure that is full of many layers. Despite how packed the story is, things are presented in a manner that is generally easy to follow, which helps broaden the scope in a wonderful way.
Saying that this remaster brings back a genre classic would be unfair: the choice to use the script that is widely regarded as the worst version of the original masterpiece is very unfortunate. The redeeming qualities of this remaster, such as a decent localization and a good restoration work on the assets, are overshadowed by its main flaw, worsened by the continued use of Uchikoshi's name during marketing, despite him having little to no involvement in this version.

Two classic visual novels, Never7 and Ever17, make their long-awaited Western release, written by genre master Kotaro Uchikoshi. Players can experience these classic mystery sci-fi stories with all new remastered art.
Ever 17 delivers a gripping, mind-bending narrative that showcases Uchikoshi’s signature twists and sci-fi intrigue. While its slow start and repetitive routes test patience, the game’s strong character development and unforgettable payoff make it a standout in the visual novel genre.
[...]the story in Ever 17 - The Out of Infinity still works — we can experience the mystery and emotional weight that permeates the attempts to escape a lethal sinking. However, for those, like me, who have had any contact with the original Ever17, there's a feeling that something essential has been dilluted. The remake definitely is an interesting experience but inevitably inferior to the classic that came before. It leaves only hope that Mages and Spike Chunsoft work together to bring the original version of one of the best sci-fi visual novels ever created.

Ever 17: The Out of Infinity is a great improvement over its predecessor, Never 7, making for a much more memorable experience. It's still nowhere near perfect, but it should still be an enjoyable read for most visual novel fans.
Ever 17 – The Out of Infinity is an alternate version for KID's classic mystery, which wasn't released [this way] in the West [yet], bringing significant changes in its structure that can be quite controverse. On one hand, the big mysteries and sci-fi elements are still a big attractive and worth checking out. On the other, it leaves a feeling that the release could have had more care in preserving the original story along with the most recent revision and in offering more quality of life for players.

Despite a very slow start and some repetition across its routes, Ever 17 deserves its status as a classic. The occasional typos are unfortunate, but overall this remaster is a great opportunity to experience a clever and inventive visual novel.
