Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars Reviews
Some of the warts from the originals remain, but they don't detract significantly from the overall experience. If you're even the slightest bit serious about 90s-era role-playing games, you need to add this package to your collection.
A solid remaster of one of the best JRPGs ever made... and its prequel too.
Suikoden I - II HD Remaster is a good enough compilation to discover (or re-discover) two of the most influential JRPG of all time, both treated with respect and both still very enjoyable today. The budget Konami allocated for this project was probably minimal, but the effort put in recreating these two classics is commendable nonetheless.

The Suikoden games often go out of their way to do these things, and that’s the kind of grit I miss from the genre. This is a fantastic remaster for Suikoden I and II, which are two of the greatest JRPGs ever made. The stars shine bright in this franchise, and I hope to see Suikoden III make a return now after this incredible change of events.
Konami, wanting to revive the series, has successfully remastered these underrated legendary games, making them much more enjoyable to play on modern systems. If you haven't played Suikoden 2, this is a must-have collection that represents the peak of classic J-RPGs.

Two classics exhumed with enough care to feel fresh again. While the first game is still great, it's the sequel that reconfirms its status as one of the finest RPGs ever with an enthralling and touching story. A classic that also holds its own against modern games.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is a treat for all turn-based RPG fans, but backgrounds can look a little too smooth and clean.
We should just appreciate that Suikoden and Suikoden 2 are remarkable achievements, both as literary adaptations and entertaining video games to play, and that quality and worth has not diluted one bit in the years since. Play these, love them, and then do yourself a favour and go and read Water Margin too.
If you've never played Suikoden II and consider yourself a lover of Japanese-made RPGs, you should already have this game pre-ordered. This is a game that belongs on the podium near the '90s classics from Square Enix. I'm not nearly as hot on Suikoden I, but the first game is more like the NES Final Fantasy entries to Suikoden II's SNES Final Fantasy entries. It's cool to see the evolution, but we all know what game has ascended to all-timer status.
Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is an exceptional collection of two important JRPGs, including one of the greatest masterpieces of the genre. The gameplay system works well, but the real highlight is the two great narratives that deserve to be played by any fan of the genre.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune & Dunan Unification Wars is an excellent updated port of two great games. Almost all of the changes are for the better, the translation is massively improved, and it still maintains all of the charm and flavor of the original games. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer to the franchise, there's genuinely no better place to start than the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster. Even if you're just a fan of RPGs, it's well worth a try, if only to see what all the hype is about.
Suikoden 1 and 2 are two more than solid JRPGs, which are a living example of the golden age of the genre, and which receive with this collection their best exponent to date. They are not perfect, and they drag certain rough edges from their original release, but they are two must-haves for any fan of the genre.

It's impossible not to love the first two chapters of Suikoden, which this HD collection brings back with extreme graphical care and some quality-of-life improvements.

Suikoden I&II HD Remaster is a great excuse to play 2 classics, especially Suikoden II which is one of the best RPGs ever made. Recruiting characters is still extremely enjoyable and it sets it apart from other RPGs so here's hoping for much more Suikoden in the future. ⚔️
You can forgive the glossiness in favor of dedicating countless hours to exploration, reading and grinding, and I will continue to do so gladly. It’s been a long time since I’ve been this deep into a game, and, in many ways, it’s like coming home.
Suikoden I and II HD Remaster is an excellent way to discover or relive the adventures of the first chapters of the saga: to date Suikoden II remains one of the best JRPGs in history, for its writing and more; It is a must to recover it in order to fully understand an important fragment of the videogame firmament. Konami's HD remastering work is of the highest level, the scenarios are incredibly evocative and the coloring is timely. The portraits of the characters of Suikoden I have been excellently shot and interpreted, unlike those of II, which despite the work done remain disappointing.

While some aspects of the collection may be received negatively based on the mixed visuals, nobody can deny that this return of Suikoden is both an excellent entry point to the series and representative of the best versions of the games so far. Suikoden I & II HD Remaster is another step in the right direction in Konami’s new golden age and a solid JRPG package worthy of its place in the modern HD remaster library.
While these remasters are welcome on new platforms, the effort regarding how much was remastered is a bit of a debatable point. Regardless of Konami’s bare-bones efforts, both games still hold their own as being must-play classics.
The Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster isn’t perfect though, and Konami should have made a few more quality of life improvements, specifically to the inventory system. The story to both games is there in all of its glory, the second game’s story especially. Overall, Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars is a solid update to some classically good JRPGs!
Yes, maybe Suikoden I&II HD Remaster is not the perfect remastering and lacks work and ambition, but there is something undeniable: it is the best time to play these JRPG must-haves. Being able to enjoy these two JRPG gems with Spanish translation, on current platforms and with some improvements is already much more than what we had until now.
