However, over time, the maps and enemies become repetitive, which detracts from the experience's variety and makes the single-player experience cumbersome and unbalanced. Add to that technical performance issues with a noticeable frame rate drop on PS5, and you've got an experience that needed more polish before launch. However, there's a real chance of improving it with future updates, making it a fresh experience worthy of the ELDEN RING name.

Elden Ring Nightreign is certainly not a bad game, but it is also not a high flyer. The story is very scanty and you are just quickly bored with what to do. You get the most out of it if you decide to play with friends. But don't expect a evening -filling program, because after an hour the boredom starts to strike.

FromSoftware’s multiplayer spin-off of Elden Ring is a fun surprise that works better than expected.

Nightreign isn’t even a full-priced game, and I’ve already put over 100 fun-filled hours into it, with more to come. The way Nightreign blends the replayability of a rogue-lite game with the skillful nature you come to expect of a FromSoft game is nothing short of amazing.

Elden Ring Nightreign is definitely a game that is hard to get wrong, considering it's based on a solid foundation of Elden Ring. Given the huge expectations set by FromSoftware's reputation, I can see how many would consider the game imperfect, but it definitely delivers when it comes to giving you a fun experience.

Elden Ring Nightreign is an ambitious gamble that gets away with building a fresh, coop roguelike in the Souls universe. Since it isn't an expansion, fans will mourn the loss of the measured pacing of the original game, while others will enjoy the madness, experimentation, and violence of this new run.

Despite its glaring flaws, Nightreign is a fantastic experience for long-time FromSoftware and, specifically, Elden Ring fans. At its core, it is more Elden Ring, an automatic positive. When Nightreign is clicking, it soars to some of the highest heights FromSoftware games can get.

On the surface, Nightreign looks to be a shadow of its former installment. However, the deeper you delve into the typical hidden systems within a Soulsborne, you’ll find a few more things to do and get out of this seemingly shallow multiplayer game. This doesn’t mean its not repetitive and can be very frustrating at times with the wrong team mates but if you have two friends and all enjoy a challenge then you might find this game a lot more fulfilling. Whilst this offers less new experiences that other FromSoftware games, its not without its fun moments and that feeling of finally beating a hard boss is still here. Although the journey to each Nightlord is a lot more tedious than roguelikes or battle royales with little rewards to make it feel worthwhile. Elden Ring Nightreign might not completely tarnish the franchise name but it certainly doesn’t hold a site of grace to it.

Nightreign is a charming, incredibly fast-paced game that will throw veteran players into the “blue flame” of something they haven’t experienced before, while everyone else will still have fun - until they end up yelling at their teammates, who probably can’t hear them if they’re playing with randoms.

Elden Ring Nightreign can't escape sharing the same title as a game of the year winner, which puts expectations on it that it doesn't reach.

Elden Ring Nightreign is an enjoyable addition to the Elden Ring universe, through it is not without its faults. All in all, I would recommend Elden Ring Nightreign to people who enjoy a challenge but who aren’t too bothered about a lot of plot. In other words, if you like fighting the bad guys with friends, have fun. If you are looking for deep lore, play the original Elden Ring.

“Elden Ring Nightreign”, really shakes up the formula From Software has been honing the past decade. It’s intense, and full of ups and downs and some areas that really require more polish — like proper communication systems and less obtuse mechanics for this kind of subgenre. The lows are incredibly low and frustrating. But once you beat a Night Lord? Ah, there’s no better feeling than that. Especially with friends.

Elden Ring Nightreign is a game I found myself quite engaged with and ended up excited to play more. It's very easy to see why some people dislike it. Despite being soulslike, it doesn't have the same pace and demands as FromSoftware games. All that said, it's still a very fun game with some great group moments.

Elden Ring Nightreign blends co-op action with roguelite elements in a bold shift from tradition, offering intense battles and strong character design. While its structure echoes Monster Hunter more than classic Souls, the experience swings between satisfaction and frustration due to balancing issues and punishing mechanics. With refinement, its full potential could shine—especially for well-coordinated teams.

Brutal, bold, and brilliantly chaotic, Elden Ring: Nightreign thrives when all of its pieces fall into place. It’s not flawless, but its smart design choices and thrilling co-op gameplay prove that FromSoftware’s risks continue to pay off in exciting new ways. While repetition and technical issues hold it back from greatness, the game shines when played with friends, offering moments of pure adrenaline and triumph. It may not eclipse Elden Ring or Dark Souls, but Elden Ring: Nightreign stands tall as a bold and compelling spin-off of the successful formula.

Elden Ring Nightreign is an experience that, while sharing similarities with the main game, sets itself apart in subtle ways. It’s a distilled version of the massive 2022 title, but its greatest strengths lie in its fast-paced combat, shorter runtime, and high-speed gameplay. It offers an engaging challenge for veterans, while also serving as a great entry point for those who don’t want to deal with the monumental scale of FromSoftware’s larger works.

Nightreign ambitiously expands on Elden Ring's themes and structure, with standout moments and a fresh take on co-op play. Some design choices and balancing issues hold it back, but it remains a meaningful experiment that sets the stage for the studio’s future.
