This, combined with a fun but unnecessary chapter and some technical hitches on Switch 2, hold back Titans of the Tide from being the Nickelodeon icon’s best outing yet. That said, if you’re a SpongeBob veteran or someone just seeking a fun adventure for the family, there are times when Titans of the Tide is primed to make a splash.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide isn't going to blow anyone away, but it's a perfectly decent 3D platformer that mostly captures the energy of the show. Swapping between SpongeBob and Patrick is a neat mechanic that's used very well throughout, and levels are big and varied as you explore Bikini Bottom and talk to its populace, all of whom are voiced by the proper cast. It definitely has some rough edges and some soft writing, and it won't win over any SpongeBob detractors, but it's a good all-ages game for both kids and longtime fans.

Despite the pleasantries Titans of the Tide offers that makes it easy  breezy and a fair old hoot for SpongeBob fans, you would expect this latest entry to improve on The Cosmic Shake, rather than behaving like a slippery sidestep. Unfortunately, Titans of the Tide is out of its depths because it comes across as an unfinished game that has some sparkling ideas, but the execution is hamstrung by its terrible camera and banal combat, platforming and puzzles. If you want to delve into another SpongeBob game this one might do just fine, but for everybody else Titans of the Tide is a titanic case of meh.

While SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide isn't particularly challenging, it's well-written, consistently fun and fun enough to be enjoyed by Goofy Goobers, young and old.

I might not be able to recommend it blindly at its $40 price tag, but with its MENA regional pricing, its structure that feels closer to modern games, the refreshing elements in its combat, and of course its fluid gameplay, there’s really no excuse not to give it a look.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide feels like a '00s-era 3D platformer in many ways and its sense of variety and constant fun with impressively intricate stage designs made me quite happy. It can be glitchy and confusing, though, so keep that in mind. 🧽

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is a fun, familiar dip back into the world of Bikini Bottom packed with charm, ghostly goings on but a fair bit of repetition. It’s comfort food for the nostalgic, but if you’re looking for something fresh beneath the waves, you might not find much treasure here.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is a mixed bag. On the one hand, the story and moment-to-moment platforming are a lot of fun, and it's always great to see the cast of the SpongeBob TV series return for a cartoon-styled adventure. On the other hand, the lack of innovation after The Cosmic Shake, the lackluster side quests, and boring levels put a dampener on the entire experience. If you're just starting out with the 3D platformer genre and love SpongeBob, this is the game for you. Otherwise, you may be better off waiting for a discount.

All in all Titans of the Tide is a decent platformer and a game with a funny premise as well as fun dialogue between its two leads. Purple Lamp is clearly working with what they’ve got here and put forth a solid game. If they’re given perhaps a bit more to work with, maybe a truly excellent game can come and it’s definitely something a character as beloved as SpongeBob deserves at some point.

SpongeBob SquarePants: The Tidal Titans doesn’t reinvent the genre, but delivers a fun, solid adventure true to the show’s spirit. With silly gags, simple yet effective mechanics, and competent technical work, Purple Lamp offers a pleasant platformer for both longtime fans and newcomers. The lack of Italian dubbing is a drawback, yet the game still provides carefree entertainment and genuine laughs—exactly what you’d expect from a sponge living in a pineapple under the sea.

Spongebob SquarePants: Tidal Titans feels like a product rushed out the door with a minimal budget. It’s fun at times, but it also often disappoints. And where's the Polish dubbing which was here before?

SpongeBob SquarePants: Titans of the Tide is game that is definitely made for its target demographic. The voice lines, while repetitive, brought a smile to my kids’ faces that only SpongeBob can do. The story is silly, and the characters are sillier. For a game like this, that’s all you can ask for when entering children.

Titans of the Tide's best qualities are its focus on playing to its story and the switch mechanics performed by the dynamic duo. The original voices are back, and while a few lines are repeated far too often, the narrative really places the pair in scenarios that bring out the best in the voice cast. Titans of Tide certainly feels like it is borrowing from The Cosmic Shake at almost every step, but it does refine some of those rough edges into one of the best SpongeBob games out there.
