Demonschool is an excellent game that skillfully recaptures the feeling of playing an old-school Persona game.

Demonschool is not just a tribute to past generations of tactical JRPGs, but a work full of charm, personality, and truly unique craziness. With beautiful visuals, an unusual soundtrack for the genre, and gameplay that is creative and fun in equal measure, it's a true invitation for veterans and newcomers to the genre and anyone interested in the theme represented.

or a Persona fan, this game might not be exactly what you’d expect. Many of its simplified mechanics and the lack of more meaningful consequences for your choices may disappoint those looking for a deeper social experience or a calendar system that demands strategic planning. Even so, it clearly demonstrates qualities that make it a game worth recommending: its narrative is intriguing, the combat is extremely well executed, and the world it presents is full of personality. It’s worth giving Demonschool a chance, especially if you’re looking for a lighter, stylish game with thoughtfully designed battles.

Demonschool is an interesting title with a unique, puzzley approach to turn-based combat and phenomenal art direction and aesthetics. The story in this story-driven game, however, is all over the place and fails to feel cohesive or satisfying, while also playing more into laughs than solid characterization. If the game has caught your eye, I still suggest trying it out, but beware that you may also find the writing disjointed, confusing, and whacky in a not-so-intentional-feeling way. But maybe you’ll find more fun in the randomness than I did.

Demonschool’s finely tuned combat and instantly endearing characters are big selling points. However, both are bogged down by the game’s tendency to more or less throw everything at the player without even a single moment’s warning. You might be caught off guard if you expect the marathon-like feel that is typical of JRPGs, but you’ll find yourself over the moon if you’ve always thought you’d rather go for a sprint.

I can’t say enough good things about Demonschool. From story to graphics to mechanics, the game is absolutely riveting. The more I played it, the more I liked it, and the more I thought about it the more I liked it, too. I’m glad the game got delayed because I hate to think of it launching and getting buried by another very good game… but launching now, you have a chance to get into it after you’ve already played the other big indie titles released this year.

Demonschool is a quirky tactics RPG that is sure to entertain players in many different aspects. From odd but lovable characters, stunning visuals, an interesting plot that transcends the human and the demon world, and engaging strategy gameplay with unique mechanics, there’s a lot to like about it. Its complex tactical mechanics may not be for everyone and may not be the best tactical RPG for a newbie, but it’s got charm.

Demonschool’s stylish presentation, clever tactical combat, and charismatic cast certainly make it into the honor roll. However, the seemingly nonstop battles and myriad of technical problems prevent it from being at the very top of its class.

Demonschool delivers a stylish blend of offbeat humor, engaging battles, and light social mechanics, even if its drawn-out pacing and technical roughness keep it from fully realizing its devilish potential.

Demonschool is a game for those who love nuance, antics, and those who like to embrace a sense of individuality. A game for those who have no problem accepting individuals for what they are.

There are some great workings here. However, it’s hard to say that perhaps with more time for polish it would be a huge improvement. Of course, there is the potential for Demonschool to improve. Revisit and fix some of the technical glitches that are occurring within the game is a great starting point. However, this is a game that was announced in 2022, faced delays, and is still a bit of a mess. There is nothing worse than ruining a good groove by the game going to the main menu. That isn’t to say that the entire game isn’t worth it. The combat is great although a bit too much. The overall story, while predictable and full of tropes is enjoyable.

Demonschool is a unique form of tactical RPG where the combat with its distinctive mechanics and innovative ideas captivated me from the very first second and held my attention until the very end. The story surrounding Faye and her friends is incredibly fun, striking a balance between poignant moments and moments that will have you laughing out loud and the game looks absolutely stunning whether in the menus, the world itself or during battles. Sure, the game isn't perfect, and there's still room for improvement in a few areas, but these flaws don't detract significantly from my experience.

An interesting and original tactics battle system doesn’t really save Demonschool from being a dull affair with unlikeable characters, uninteresting gameplay and undercooked narrative that failed to hold my attention.

Demonschool constantly felt like a mix between old-school Persona and Stranger Things thanks to its world building, characters, sound design, and art.

With a charming battle system that focuses on strategic positioning and keeps players thinking, there’s a lot to like in this wonderful indie title, with only the occasional pacing issue due to a meticulous adherence to its calendar system holding it back at all.

Overall, I did enjoy my time with Demonschool. Its vibrant cast of characters and fun take on the Killing School Life genre helped elevate the journey, but the needless amount of combat, lack of meaningful variety or rewards, and bugs soured the experience somewhat. While Demonschool is a worthy addition to the genre, I am more excited to see what comes next.
