If Beast of Reincarnation is any indication of Game Freak’s capabilities when they’re taking a break from the Pokémon franchise, maybe they should be doing this sort of thing more often. Beast of Reincarnation feels fantastic to play, with a post-apocalyptic world filled with vibrant scenery and wildlife. I do wish that the narrative and characters were more engaging, but if you can look past that and appreciate the combat, you’ll find a lot to love from Beast of Reincarnation.

Beast of Reincarnation's narrative takes place far after mankind's decline, with nature having once again reclaimed Mother Earth for its own. Players assume the role of Emma, a gifted, or more aptly, cursed individual known as a Sealer.
Beast of Reincarnation is an understated success for Game Freak, delivering a compelling action-adventure with some very solid combat. Even if dialogue, presentation and camera often leave something to be desired, this is an enjoyable road trip unlike any other.
Beast of Reincarnation from developer Game Freak is a good first step for what could be a fun action series. The story is great, the characters are interesting, and the action, when it gets going, is fast, fun, and furious. The bland and repetitive enemies and bosses, as well as a confusing skill tree, get in the way of making this game something special.
Game Freak’s Beast of Reincarnation is an ambitious, genuinely satisfying action RPG built around fast, forgiving parry-based combat and a standout companion in Koo. Exploration, art direction, and the game’s boss soundtrack are all highlights, backed by roughly 30+ hours of content for players who like to explore. Camera issues, collision bugs, inconsistent handheld performance, and a total lack of accessibility options hold it back from greatness, but none of it stops this from being one of Game Freak’s best efforts yet.
Beast of Reincarnation is a typical action RPG from a not so typical developer. It's a confident first step for Game Freak, though at times that confidence can feel misplaced. Repetitive enemies, samey environments and performance issues stop it from reaching the heights of its own ambition. But when everything clicks, it’s hard to deny that Beast of Reincarnation really clicks - it’s a fast, fluid and deeply satisfying combat loop that, while derivative, is still a blast to play.
Beast of Reincarnation provides a very engaging, organic exploration with remarkable freedom of movement. It is also full of systems that aren’t always well designed and tedious cutscenes that take ages to tell a relatively simple story. It’s a decent game that comes very close to being really good, but the latter half drags it down by neglecting its greatest strengths. Ultimately, I still think the game is worth a go for fans of the genre.

Beast of Reincarnation is the kind of game that leaves you with mixed feelings, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. On the one hand, there's a studio that has lived within a single universe for thirty years and here attempts, honestly, to tell a story that's adult, dark, and melancholic. On the other, there's clear proof that writing a believable world and building it to support the player are two different skills, and Game Freak only masters one.

A solid combat system and some worthwhile ideas give Beast of Reincarnation a handful of bright spots, but they are not enough to conceal the disappointment surrounding the game as a whole. Its mediocre and at times tedious levels, combined with highly repetitive and poorly designed boss battles, make the overall experience feel thoroughly dull, while its story is even more baffling.

If *Beast of Reincarnation* proves anything, it is that quality rests on several pillars, and if one fails, the whole thing can come crashing down. Hopefully, it won't be long before Game Freak delivers a game that finally does justice to its team's talent—whether it’s a new concept, a continuation of the ideas seen in *Beast of Reincarnation*, or the future of Pokémon.

An atmospheric and occasionally touching action game from a studio that has never done anything like it, and unfortunately, it shows. The plot is depressing, exploring the locations isn't particularly engaging, and the bosses are repetitive—but the excellent combat system alone makes it worth checking out. Waiting for a huge discount, of course.

It's let down by numerous issues such as dull map design and combat that feels scrappy when you're up against multiple enemies, but those with patience will find an enjoyable experience at the core of Beast of Reincarnation. Its highlight, though, is of course Koo, the adorable dog which accompanies you on your adventure.
Beast of Reincarnation is an ambitious game, and that's ultimately both its greatest strength and its biggest weakness. It's refreshing to see Game Freak step so far outside Pokémon's shadow, and the result is packed with inventive ideas and genuinely excellent combat. Unfortunately, uneven level design, rough presentation, and a general lack of polish keep those ideas from reaching their full potential. Even so, I had a good time with the game. If you're willing to overlook the title's rough edges and meet it on its own terms, there's a lot to enjoy. More than anything, Beast of Reincarnation feels like the foundation for something truly special, and I hope Game Freak gets the chance to build on it with a sequel.

Beast of Reincarnation is a great game and shines in its gameplay with its various combat options. The story isn't bad, but its unfolding is slow to the point of being boring. Some technical issues with the frame rate (which will probably be fixed with updates) are also apparent. Finally, the bosses are amazing, but there's a bit of unnecessary repetition of them throughout the journey.

Beast of Reincarnation nails the combat but falls slightly short in the other pillars of its core gameplay. Nothing is outright bad, but it's that small difference-that final push-that keeps it from aspiring to be a new benchmark in the action genre.
