Scott Pilgrim EX Reviews
Scott Pilgrim EX is so smooth, so fluid, and so easy to get into that you forget about everything else the moment you and your friends are in the mix, brawling and riffing and doing everything under the sun and space together. It’s seamless in loads between areas, the cohesion is top notch for areas and monsters, the loot drops are generous so you can keep buying health and equipment and my kids, who haven’t consumed any Scott Pilgrim media, were full on board from the drop.
Sixteen years after the original game, Scott Pilgrim EX builds upon what made the first one so great. From challenging and unique boss fights to a fun story that fits the Scott Pilgrim universe, this is a game that's not only a love letter to the source material but also does a great job of standing out on its own.
Scott Pilgrim EX had a lot of legacy to live up to, and it mostly honours that with excellent mechanics and gameplay overhauls alongside a brand new story.
There's a lot of variety and some cool new approaches to the beat'em up throughout Scott Pilgrim EX. The roster of heroes and enemies is amazing, and the adventure they go on is one only the Scott Pilgrim universe can truly provide.
But Tribute has done great work here. Where scrolling beat ’em ups like this can often get really repetitive and stale, Scott Pilgrim EX really has a nice blend of customisation, character variety and replayability to give it some legs. Sadly it doesn’t have as many modes and extras as Tributes other work or the original 2010 game, but what’s here on offer is still really really good.
Almost like a celebratory entry for the franchise, Scott Pilgrim EX delivers a high-quality beat ’em up with a strong focus on fun, encapsulating various aspects of the original work and pop culture as a whole into a highly entertaining title.

Although the game can get frustrating if you’re playing alone, Scott Pilgrim EX is definitely worth picking up if you are a fan of brawlers. It’s light on the plot but its chaotic combat and fun cast of characters more than make up for it. This is definitely a game where it’s definitely better to partner up for, but frustrating or not that’s pretty much the case with any brawler of this nature.
Scott Pilgrim EX is a game that knows exactly what it wants to be. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel or lean into overly complex systems. The goal is simple: gather some friends—whether locally or online—and create fun moments in front of the screen. The combat mechanics are quite engaging, featuring characters with varied playstyles, throwable objects, and RPG-style progression. Could the campaign be longer? Yes, it could—and honestly, I think it should—but it’s not always about quantity; it’s about quality. I really enjoyed the replay value, especially with the inclusion of New Game+. It’s not perfect, and it doesn’t need to be. It’s the kind of game that might not define an era, but it definitely delivers hours of entertainment. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we’re looking for.

Scott Pilgrim EX elevates the beat 'em up genre with a clever backtracking system, map events, and item- and coin-based RPG progression, along with stunning pixel art and frenetic combat.

With a ton of different items to boost your power, and seven immensely fun characters to master, EX is wildly fun, despite its noticeable flaws, and continues the adventures of Scott Pilgrim, and his unique cast of heroes and villains, all somewhere in Toronto.
Raging Scottaholics will love this title to death just for all the nods and references, with special props to the developers for their attention to detail. Fans of beat-em-ups and gaming will find a lot to adore here, as it's basically a revved-up role-playing beat-em-up hybrid ala River City Ransom on steroids and pop culture nod overloads.
Scott Pilgrim EX is a fun, simple game that is charming, to say the least, even for those who have no connection to the franchise. Some people may find some of the jokes and video game references here and there a little cringe-worthy, but overall, I think it would be difficult for anyone who likes beat 'em ups to find this game a negative experience.

Scott Pilgrim EX is a great game, and I like that it takes some chances to bring its foundations up a notch with the intention of making it even better than great, but it falls short of that because it also feels like the game rests on its own laurels as a great multiplayer beat-em-up. I hope the next Scott Pilgrim game doesn't settle for just being great because the potential to go beyond that is definitely there.
This is an easy thumbs up for me, and those looking to fill their evening with a solid beat 'em up experience will surely find that here. Sometimes, it can be worth the wait.
