When everything works in harmony, LumenTale: Memories of Trey's mature twist on the monster-taming genre feels like a genius blend of fan-favourite mechanics alongside smart and refreshing advancements. I hope either updates or a future entry can help evolve things further, as currently both LumenTale and some of the Animon themselves feel buried in a mess of ill-explained and superfluous features.Performance woes frustrate the experience further, alongside some odd control decisions, but any RPG fan looking for a monster-tamer built with clear passion and understanding of the genre's strengths should definitely give this a spin. There's potential here for LumenTale to actually challenge the very best monster-tamers out there, and I hope Beehive gets the chance to make that happen.

LumenTale: Memories of Trey is among the best creature collector games we've gotten in years. That doesn't stop the game from feeling like it's collapsing under the pressure of just how different it's trying to be.

Impressive efforts with a few noticeable problems holding them back. Won't astound everyone, but is worth your time and cash.

LumenTale is proof that being passionate about a series of videogames does not mean that you have to blindly follow in its footsteps: the combat system is able to cleverly mix elements from both Pokémon and Final Fantasy, while genuinely feeling like its own thing. What more could you ask for?

With some improvements, Lumen Tale: Memories of Trey could be a stellar game. As it stands, it falls in the good but not great area. Pokémon fans may find it's arguably worth the price tag, but the battle and capture mechanics fetter the fun.

Fun but with a few flaws that might be deal-breakers to certain Pokémaniacs.

But there are so many glaring flaws in how it's constructed that, if I wasn't reviewing this game, those would have been enough for me to exit out right then and there. I could easily see a sequel or similar title by this developer being one of my favorite games, but with all the issues this ended up being a rough experience. I'm going to keep trying to play more of this, and since I didn't come close to an ending I don't feel like I can honestly give this a score, but I feel like this game is constantly pushing back at me getting to that point.

Beehive Studios has created a monster-collecting game that, while clearly inspired by Pokémon, manages to forge its own identity thanks to an excellent combat system, a more mature narrative, and a well-developed game world. Despite a few flaws likely due to the team's inexperience, LumenTale: Memories of Trey is an engaging title and offers a solid alternative for anyone looking for something different from Game Freak's games.

It is impossible not to praise the Italian team for the work put into a title that only appears simple on the surface, while actually hiding a level of structural complexity and overall variety that exceeds expectations. However, the attractive visuals, the unique Animon and their evolutions, and the wide range of activities available are not enough to fully conceal a gameplay structure that feels overly complex. Combined with a story that struggles to truly take off, this ultimately undermines the primary purpose of a videogame: to entertain and engage the player. That said, this may simply be a matter of target audience. LumenTale is clearly aimed at younger players, who may well appreciate the many possibilities it offers, especially at its budget price point of €25. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

My time with the game has been enlightening. There are several flaws that I came across like the ability to see or remember Animon’s attacks. This is just one of a few things I hope they’re able to fix besides the issue with the controller choices I’ve encountered. I played on both the PC and on my Steam Deck and got to say that I rather play it on my Steam Deck. For a game like LumenTale: Memories of Trey, it feels more comfortable playing it in handheld mode. There is also the ending that felt kind of lackluster that almost killed my motivation to try to continue my completionist route. Again I hope this does get resolved over time. However, it is Beehive Studio to make the changes and we have a lot of time for change to happen. I give LumenTale: Memories of Trey the Thumb Culture Gold Award

With a great soundtrack, and a snappy battle system, LumenTale: Memories of Trey excels as being one of the better Pokémon style games, even if a few edges are rough and a true lack of originality hovers over the experience. Still, if you're looking for this type of game, do to Pokémon feeling a bit stale from year to year, few do it better.

LumenTale has its own unique and charming characteristics, attracting everyone to a game that, despite being trendy, maintains a style that is not easy to achieve, but the developer managed to make it work.

It can truly feel exciting to weave through Animon, shooting out the Holoken to catch or damage while solving puzzles, and learning about Trey’s past, but in the meantime, that quality title is buried underneath some flawed execution.

LumenTale: Memories of Trey is one of the most pleasant surprises I’ve come across in the creature-collecting RPG genre. It has personality, a vast world that rewards exploration, challenging combat, and plenty of original ideas. It’s not perfect: the menus could be improved, some mechanics aren’t explained well, performance is inconsistent, and there are bugs. But even so, it’s a special game.

The best thing about LumenTale: Memories of Trey is that it's not trying to be a Pokémon copy. It takes ideas from other works but gives them enough of its own personality to feel new.

"A Big Ambition That Needs Refinement" LumenTale: Memories of Trey presents a very promising project within the creature-collecting genre, thanks to a richly detailed world, a deep strategic combat system, and novel ideas such as linking creatures to emotions and feelings. The visuals are appealing, and the great variety of Animons gives the experience a distinctive identity. However, the game still needs significant improvements in guidance, balance, and technical performance to reach its full potential.
