Silent Hill: Townfall is a breathtaking psychological horror adventure that brings a fresh perspective to the series through immersive first-person exploration, an emotionally compelling story, excellent environmental puzzles, and a wonderfully atmospheric Scottish setting. Its inventive CRTV mechanic makes stealth genuinely tense, while frustrating enemy AI, limited monster variety, simplistic combat, and occasional crashes are the main shortcomings of an otherwise exceptional return to Silent Hill.

Silent Hill: Townfall brings the horror to the shores of Scotland and takes a more narrative-driven approach, with a generous dose of stealth. In our review, we examine whether this new direction justifies the shift in course for the long-running series.

Silent Hill: Townfall opens on a genuinely chilling note with its atmosphere and visual quality. Using the CRTV mechanic, we solve puzzles and track creatures. Yet the stealth-focused gameplay undermines that enjoyment with its limited creature variety and an interaction system that never holds the player's hand. Alongside the optimisation issues, the superficial story and lifeless characters turn Silent Hill: Townfall into a merely average psychological horror experience.

"When fog becomes part of fear" Silent Hill: Townfall offers a different horror experience that works especially well in the first-person perspective, CRTV device, St. Amelia and the acoustic and environmental atmosphere. Despite some story, pacing, and technical issues, the game benefits from the series' roots to deliver an experience with its own identity.

SILENT HILL: Townfall offers a highly satisfying experience for players who believe atmosphere and storytelling should take priority in horror games, and manages to become one of the most interesting entries in the series’ ongoing revival.

In terms of its atmosphere and story, Townfall is probably the best new Silent Hill in the last two decades. Its gameplay is solid in the first half of the game, but unfortunately later turns into something tiring, uninspired, and repetitive.

Silent Hill: Townfall excels at delivering a tense and frightening experience, with creative ideas that deviate from the franchise's standard, but it falters somewhat by underutilizing the narrative and visual potential of the franchise.

Silent Hill: Townfall is an atmospheric and thematically ambitious horror game that understands what makes Silent Hill special, but struggles to maintain that magic. Its ideas are stronger than its characters, and its excellent first half gradually gives way to repetitive exploration and a less satisfying narrative payoff.

SILENT HILL: Townfall blends first-person horror, clever stealth and excellent puzzles into a deeply unsettling journey. A few predictable encounters aside, St. Amelia proves that Silent Hill can keep evolving without losing its soul.

The best way to describe Silent Hill: Townfall is intense, beautiful, and incredibly bold. Taking the series to a first-person perspective while successfully retaining that nostalgic Silent Hill feeling was a massive triumph. Simply put, Silent Hill fans have it good.

At this point, we would love to say that Silent Hill: Townfall is an excellent survival horror game and highlight its well-crafted puzzles, outstanding sound design, and overall atmosphere. Unfortunately, though, the gameplay design falls short. Its stealth elements become increasingly tedious over time and are only properly broken up once by an action sequence. The story also starts off strong, but noticeably loses steam as it progresses and ultimately fails to provide the necessary depth. All in all, Townfall is certainly worth giving a chance, but you should keep your expectations for the gameplay firmly in check.

Far from the Silent Hill name, Townfall delivers a successful psychological horror experience in terms of atmosphere and artistic presentation, supported by stunning visual graphics, excellent audio engineering, and a story featuring interesting ideas. However, the game suffers from a weak combat system, repeated reliance on stealth, and padding in gameplay that negatively impacts the experience's pacing, while the ending fails to provide a payoff proportional to what the story builds up throughout its hours. Despite these flaws, Townfall remains a good horror experience worth attention for fans of this genre, but it is far from being exceptional or memorable for a long time.

Silent Hill: Townfall delivers an excellent first-person horror experience built around isolation, enemy pursuit, and the innovative CRTV system, although its story leans too heavily on the psychological formula established by Silent Hill 2.

Silent Hill: Townfall is yet another example of the series leaping into the current generation with a clear story to tell. The mystery, the survival-horror and the classic fog all combine to create a 12-hour (varying) ride through very tense scenarios. While Silent Hill 2 Remake remains my ultimate highlight in the series, Townfall is a much better representation of Silent Hill vibes compared to the recent Silent Hill f and really opens the door to experimentation. Where will the series go next?

I'm not that used to playing horror games, but I don't avoid them either. When well-made, a game of this genre holds my attention because it's interesting, and Silent Hill: Townfall managed to do that for me. The tension created by the game is very good, so much so that I often found myself looking all around or even crouching, even though the CCTV hadn't indicated any danger nearby. The way the CCTV is used is very cool and creative, as are the clues to advance in the puzzles. Many times I felt that combat with the creatures wasn't even necessary, because the atmosphere of the game alone was enough to horrify. The stealth aspect of the game didn't appeal to me as much, as I mentioned before, and the mechanics themselves aren't that enjoyable, but nothing that detracts from the fun of the game. The game faces some optimization problems, with some FPS drops and visual stutters, but I believe that will be corrected in the future. Silent Hill: Townfall is a great entry point for new players to experience the Silent Hill series and is a great game to continue this franchise.

Silent Hill: Townfall nails the atmosphere, sound design, and mystery, but its overreliance on stealth turns tension into frustration long before the credits roll.

Silent Hill - Townfall got man qualties like the enormous fidelity of the scottish town or the charming 90s tech interactions. But man some design decisions reagarding enemies sight, behaviour and a monster spamming one grab after another led to frustrations that dampened my enjoyment.

Townfall isn't without its rough edges, particularly when it comes to its visuals, combat, and some of the character development, but those issues never overshadow what it gets remarkably right. Its story keeps unraveling in fascinating ways, its puzzles actually make players think, its survival mechanics reinforce vulnerability, and its music and atmosphere capture the identity of Silent Hill exceptionally well. Most importantly, it manages to modernize the series without losing sight of what makes it terrifying.
