I had an incredibly fun time with CAPTAIN TSUBASA 2: WORLD FIGHTERS and it may just be my favourite team sports game ever made with its spot-on anime visuals and exciting atmosphere as well as its flashy and challenging gameplay that anyone can pick-up-and-play. ⚽

They managed to make a team sports game, a game where only one individual counts. Captain Tsubasa 2 World Fighters does not allow to build actions, to make his own team. Looks like Tamsoft wanted to make a mobile game before they realized they had the budget to carry it on the platforms of the moment. Following the events of the first game, we once again follow Tsubasa and other iconic characters from the anime, along with a customizable character for the player. Play matches that represent the games that take place in Captain Tsubasa and become part of the story. Improve your character, use incredible skills, and win all the soccer tournaments you participate in. I confess I expected more from Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters. Despite being visually stunning, with incredible effects and gameplay faithfully adapted from the anime, the gameplay doesn't quite live up to expectations. The pace isn't very fluid, especially towards the end of a match, where everyone starts unleashing their special moves and it becomes a general mess. The goal-scoring mechanics are uninspiring, as you have to keep shooting repeatedly, hoping the goalkeeper takes enough damage before you can score. The pauses in the middle of the match to tell the story really annoy me. In short, a game based on a soccer anime might not be as dynamic as I imagined.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters faithfully recreates the series' over-the-top spectacle with a deeper save system and Chain mechanics, though shaky teammate AI and a thin mode selection outside the story hold it back from greatness.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Challengers is a gorgeous anime football game with a ridiculous story and tons of equally ridiculous ways to score.
Overall, Captain Tsubasa 2 is a more than worthy tribute to the football adventures on which it is based, which can be exciting in certain matches and is much more enjoyable against another person.

Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a sequel done right. It builds on the original’s strong foundation, adding content and refining its ideas into an experience that looks and plays better. Tamsoft has put together one of the most unique and fun soccer games ever made, blending the real-life sport with the over-the-top anime it’s based on.
It almost feels like, rather than comparing Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters to an EA FC game, you'd be better off thinking of it as Tekken played 11-a-side. The only thing I'm holding off on judging is the online mode; otherwise, it's genuinely hard not to recommend it to anyone looking to scratch that arcade-style football itch.

Rather than trying to simulate realistic football, it focuses on the exaggerated action, impossible moves, and memorable moments of the anime, and it largely succeeds in doing so. By making good use of the series’ familiar characters and world, while also introducing a custom character and new story elements, the game offers more than simply retelling the same old events. However, the limited depth of some systems and uneven pacing keep World Fighters from being more than a good game. Still, for longtime fans, seeing Tsubasa’s signature shots and Hyuga’s powerful moves come to life in a video game makes for a fun and nostalgic experience, as long as you don’t approach it expecting a realistic football game.

Captain Tsubasa 2 improves on its predecessor with entertaining anime football and an expansive roster, but its slow Story Mode, repetitive presentation, bland custom protagonist, and limited multiplayer undermine the experience. Faithful manga integration and abundant unlockables make it worthwhile for dedicated fans, though newcomers may find its pacing exhausting.
Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters is a clear evolution of what we saw in RoNC. The game's pace, the replacement of the rock-paper-scissors system with reaction-time-based gameplay, the inclusion of mechanics like the Chain System, and the ability to directly control goalkeepers in shooting duels address many of the previous installment's shortcomings. Similarly, the faithful adaptation of the World Youth arc and the quality and direction of its cinematic cutscenes brilliantly capture the essence of Yōichi Takahashi's work. However, despite all its strengths, the game still suffers from some of the same flaws as the previous title. In terms of gameplay, the imbalance of certain defensive slides is frustrating, and we were unable to test the online multiplayer mode. Despite this, Tamsoft has solidified its position as the developer that has best adapted Captain Tsubasa to a video game in over 20 years.
