A good remake with a great additional story makes Halo: Campaign Evolved a worthy endeavor. My cherished memories of Master Chief in his original fight are here – almost too similarly crafted – and they look beautiful and play well. Operation: METEORITE and the seamless co-op are tremendously implemented, and here’s hoping this taste of future Halo is a sign of things to come.

Halo: Campaign Evolved marks a very successful return for the Master Chief, combining superb gunplay, a brilliant atmosphere and spectacular visuals with sensibly implemented changes. At times, the remake remains a little too conservative, and the lack of multiplayer clearly limits its content, but the campaign itself still delivers a brilliant, challenging experience. It’s a cracking shooter, and let’s hope it marks the start of a new chapter for both the Halo franchise and Xbox.
