The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Reviews
The Mound Omen of Cthulhu has one genuinely excellent idea in its sanity system, delivering moments of paranoia and psychological horror that perfectly capture Lovecraft’s themes. Unfortunately, inconsistent performance on PS5, repetitive gameplay, clunky combat, and a general lack of polish prevent the rest of the experience from reaching the same standard.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is an entertaining co-op horror excursion that can sometimes feel a bit too oppressive.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a spectacular co-op horror game that can fool players using all manner of cunning tricks. It makes for a great game to enjoy with a dedicated group or with strangers, although the difficulty of the game gets in the way occasionally.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a great addition to both the extraction genre and to Lovecraftian games in general. It isn't really a game for solo players, but there is an option to play it that way to practice in between multiplayer sessions. When teaming up with friends though there is a lot to love here, with even failed missions providing memorable moments. There are few multiplayer experiences that can live up to the thrills of running through a rainy forest whilst pursued by a host of unearthly creatures and suddenly seeing one of your companions turn into a pine tree.
Strip away the fog, the ruins, and the booty, and what’s left is a gameplay loop so thin it barely qualifies as one.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu isn’t a bad game by no means, I enjoyed my time with it. But it’s a game that’s built for multiplayer, and while players can enjoy it solo; I feel its at the sake of actually not experiencing all the game has to offer.
suspect that despite its strides toward something a little more conventional, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu will still be something of an acquired taste for some, much like a great deal of ACE Team's back catalogue arguably has been. Sure enough it has a heap of jank and the combat isn't as satisfying as it should be, but The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu still represents the sort of resoundingly refreshing take on the extraction shooter that the genre continues to demand thanks to its brilliant use of madness mechanics that deftly elevate its online multiplayer experience.
I loved the game's premise, even though I'm not a fan of cooperative games, although I do think the title still needs to polish several details, mainly in terms of optimization for consoles.

The Mound is an intriguing mix of ideas, if nothing else, but even without the iffy gameplay, it eventually boils down to a repetitive slog.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is a tense and atmospheric romp into the jungle
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu has heart and true terrors for those brave enough to play. It does not coddle its players, but offers a challenging, bone-chilling experience with a sense of satisfaction waiting for you back at the boat, if you are lucky enough to return.
While the journey is not a smooth one, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu takes you on a voyage of co-op terror that assaults the senses and unsettles the nerves. Its cosmic horror bag of tricks offers a refreshing experience, even as its power begins to fade.
The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu had all the ingredients of a breakout horror hit, leveraging Lovecraft's rich, dread-infused lore to build an atmosphere ripe with cosmic mystery and unknown terror. However, that promising potential is quickly derailed by severe technical flaws and tedious, repetitive gameplay loops that drain all tension from the experience. What should have been an immersive journey into madness ultimately devolves into a chore, offering only a brief spark of entertainment before quietly fading into total obscurity.

Will you manage to reach the Mound withot losing your sanity?
Yes, it’s not without its faults, but as a whole, The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu is worth playing especially if you enjoy Lovecraft’s work or solid co-op horror games.
The call of adventure on an island plagued by Lovecraftian cosmic horror? Sounds tempting. However, after a few hours, you’ll get the feeling that you’ve already seen everything this game has to offer. For the brave.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu starts with an intriguing Lovecraftian premise and a solid monster design, but it quickly collapses under the weight of severe technical flaws and frustrating design choices. Between a clunky combat system plagued by bugs, an unnecessarily restrictive inventory, and severe balancing issues that heavily penalize solo players, the game entirely squanders its potential. Instead of an engaging descent into cosmic madness, the experience becomes a tedious and agonizing test of patience.

The Mound: Omen of Cthulu is a gripping Lovecraftian co-op experience that excels in atmosphere, sound design, and its brilliantly unsettling insanity system, creating genuinely unique moments with every expedition. While the combat and progression systems still need refinement to sustain long-term engagement, the game’s eerie charm and psychological horror make it a memorable and highly promising adventure for fans of cosmic terror.
For those who want an experience with Lovecraft's deity that's completely different from what's been seen in video game format, here's an interesting option.

ACE Team’s Lovecraftian cooperative shooter offers an original twist on the genre with a unique sanity system that helps shape a one-of-a-kind experience. *The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu* doesn’t aim to compete with the big cooperative shooters in terms of spectacle. Instead, it focuses on psychological tension, cooperation, and paranoia as the pillars of the experience. The game fully embraces one of the core tenets of cosmic horror: the setting isn’t just the place where the action takes place—it’s a character in its own right.
