I hate to sound like I didn't enjoy my time with the game. There's a lot to love about Dark Arisen, but it's hard for me to ignore some of its more glaring issues. If you're an action RPG fan who has been looking to sink their teeth into a meaty game before the end of the year, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is definitely worth checking out.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen has nothing new to offer for those of us who have played the game before. The combat is still fun and all but if we are looking for new content, you won’t find it here. While not much has changed between the Dark Arisen that was released on the PS3 and the Dark Arisen on the PS4, the jump in technology is clearly visible. Frame-rate is more stable and the character models and textures, while dated, have improved. For those of you who only played the initial version, this might be a good time to see what Dark Arisen is all about.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is pretty much the same game as it was five years ago. While it improves on the fluidity when it comes to compare with the original versions, it keeps all of its defects and flaws, without even trying to upgrade the texture or framerate. Grab it if you never played it, but for veterans, that's a pretty pointless pick.

It's no the best remaster out there (although it is the definitive version... on consoles), but Dragon's Dogma is still as fresh as it was in 2012. If you didn't play it then, this is the perfect time to discover one of the best action RPGs of all time.

Extremely faithful remaster (or rather PC port) of one of the best games of the previous generation in the RPG genre. Amazing combat system, spectacular magic, great difficulty. Sadly, it's only in 30 FPS.

Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen is good today as it was back in 2012, as it's still a unique take on the open world action rpg genre. We would have liked some new content and 60 fps, but at a bargain price, it's still recommended.

.A Japanese RPG with a western flavor, one that will satisfy those looking for deep combat and a world full of surprises. Those looking for a deep and engaging story, though, might need to look elsewhere.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen might have lost some of its original appeal now that there are more options available for an open world action RPG but it still holds a certain charm. The game offers a combat experience that has managed to hold up well through the years.

Dragon's Dogma is a role-playing game that deserves to be appreciated. With so much content and depth, Dark Arisen is just as impressive as ever in the gameplay department. Few would've expected a Japanese developer like Capcom to release a "Western-style" action-RPG that could hold its own against the Elder Scrolls and Witcher series, but that's exactly what happened.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is a unique RPG brought to life by its fantastic pawn system and enthralling fantasy world. Forming a ragtag clan of allies before taking on gargantuan monsters is always a blast, helping you feel like a true soldier among a land of unimaginable terrors.

Even in its remastered form, this expansion stands tall as a relatively focused and uncomplicated action experience.

Comprehensive and challenging RPG with great vassal system and weaknesses in presentation and technology.

With an interesting story, a very good combat system and the pawn sharing, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen is a must-play game for those who love RPG and adventure. Although the remastered version doesn't seem to be much better than the original one, and doesn't bring any kind of novelty, it's its content that makes the game one of the best of its genre.

A fairly lacklustre remaster does nothing to diminish what makes Dragon's Dogma such a unique and memorable role-playing game. For fans of western style action RPGs it's a must play.

Capcom has done a solid job bringing a very well-made RPG over to the current generation.

It might not be a perfect package, but its old age certainly hasn't harmed Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen in the slightest.

The game only offers a visual improvement but it still may work in a very specific scenario: discovering Dragon's Dogma to that audience who missed it in the first place during the last generation. The game has aged well though we still hope for a Dragon's Dogma 2.

Despite Capcom's uninspired remastering, Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen remains one of the best action RPGs of the last decade. Tight controls hold together thrilling combat, and the sense of adventure that the game exudes is almost unmatched. At its budget price, newcomers should definitely give the PS4 release a fair chance, while veterans will find a good enough excuse to begin the cycle all over again.

The "anything goes" style of game design employed by Dragon's Dogma is destined to fuel endless discussion regarding its pros and cons. It's no exception to the jack of all trades adage, but it has almost mastered enough things that it transcends the faceless, homogeneous garbage that such attempts at broad appeal usually result in. It's best described as consistently imperfect, which is more of a recommendation than it sounds. After all, a report card of straight Bs is preferable to one that's half A, half F.
