Bigger and better but not perfect. Its campaign it's too linear and predictable, and that hampers the experience. Besides that, its multiplayer face it almost flawless, despite the micropayment controversy.

A revamped progression system and the demotion of loot boxes to a purely cosmetic role finally gives this ambitious Star Wars game the redemption it deserves.

As much as I loathe this implementation of loot boxes, I still keep playing Battlefront II and I will probably continue to do so on and off. I mean, I do like the game. I just wish it wasn't being squandered like this. You'd be well-advised to wait until overhauls arrive -- assuming they ever do.

A great Star Wars game that shines in multiplayer and feels good even in single-player, but that pays the lack of attention towards users with its unpleasant business model.

You may be able to get [your money's worth] of fun out of Star Wars Battlefront 2, but don't expect the fun to last.

DICE, Criterion and Motive join forces to give us a game worthy of the Force. They have learned the lesson and, this time, we have the Star Wars game we al deserves, with enough variety and a lot of contento for every kind of player.

Star Wars Battlefront II is the most complete game of the franchise. With a campaign mode that lives up to the expectations and an improved online mode, Electronic Arts and DICE put the series right where it belongs.

Having flirted with the dark side in the run up to launch, Star Wars Battlefront II has had its reputation sullied by its underlying business model and how that is tied to character progression. That distracts from how much it improves on the first game though, with much better variety in Galactic and Starfighter Assault, character classes and team play being gently encouraged, and a broader and deeper player progression.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is a pretty good game and you're going to get it if you're a fan of Star Wars, no matter what anyone says. I'm just thankful that the game is an improvement over the first attempt and is incredibly fun solo, or with friends online. The loot crates diminish its value greatly, and it's a shame EA forces them down your throat as part of the core gameplay, but the game looks gorgeous and is enjoyable to play.

Solid Star Wars vibes and great starfighter battles are stymied by a stingy reward system designed to make impatient players spend real money

The Star Wars authenticity can be felt throughout, but blatantly predatory microtransactions are a blight, force choking the life out of what is otherwise one of my favorite games this year.

The dark side wins out here, as good as Star Wars: Battlefront 2 is in so many areas it just can't overcome the aggressive, anti-consumer practices that are on display in their most egregious form to date in a $60 game.

If there's a line to cross, EA didn't just step over it, they blew it up with the Death Star.

In so many ways, Battlefront II is exactly what fans want it to be. It finally feels like the games so many cherished from many years ago. It's hard to ignore the problems caused by purchased Star Cards, but if the creators can find a way to fix the system so that it is fair for everyone, what will remain is one of the year's best video games and a Star Wars experience for the ages... but again, that's a big "if."

Much of what Star Wars Battlefront 2 offers is a response to the negatives of the 2015 reboot.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 has the potential to be an amazing game, however, it is unlikely we'll ever get to play the real game as it's hidden beneath microtransactions. In an ideal world, EA would remove the Star Card system completely and replace it with something that doesn't interfere with the gameplay. If you are on the fence, maybe wait a few weeks to see how EA deal with the progression system beforehand. That being said, even with Battlefront 2's flaws I'd still say it's worth playing.

Battlefront II's campaign is a failed attempt to make an expensive blockbuster that, without a popular license, would look very boring. Online multiplayer in Battlefront II, on the other hand, is significantly better than in original in all respects.
