If you were to compare Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition to many other modern day first person shooters at face value, it’d come up short in almost every regard. It’s clunky, slow paced, stereotypical and corny in the extreme but for those gamers who also have a love for 28-millimetre tall Space Marines and the world in which they wage war, this game offers something more. Space Hulk: Deathwing makes very little effort to be accessible to those who don’t know a foam sword from a power sword, instead opting to attempt to be the most authentic recreation of Space Marine Terminator combat to date.

A fun gunzerking experience and psychic blasting moments of epic proportions! One that I have enjoyed from start to finish despite the lackluster story and patriotic efforts to the chapter. Dying? No thank you! Stutters and crashes won’t stop me from playing even if I have to crawl my way with the loading times which are rather longer than what I want but not enough to brew some coffee.

The enhanced edition may have added some new goodies to the base game while addressing some issues with performance. But it still seems somewhat lacking. It may be due to the lack of music for the most part, but I can also pin the blame on repetitive level flow. The level layout and the graphics may have had solid footing, if only the recycled objectives didn’t stick out like a sore thumb. To put it bluntly, the game has a lot of things going for it. Unfortunately, other aspects of the game suffered due to some questionable design choices. The comparison is as clear as day to night. Still, I recommend this game any hardcore fan of the 40k universe. Newcomers may also find this easy to pick up as the story is easy enough to understand without having to know the greater world of 40k.

All in all, Space Hulk is a really fun and tense shooter that is best enjoyed with friends. Unlike many other similar games, the single player, despite its flaws, has something to offer lone wolves as well.

Special missions, better performance and customization options turns Space Hulk: Enhanced Edition a solid title, and especially great for coop fans.

It's got the 40K atmosphere nailed to a T. It's got the sound, the sights, and the feel of 40K perfectly - but it's just let down massively by bugs, long loading times, horrible mission design and a lack-lustre campaign mode that not even the Emperor himself would condone. I feel it's a bit of a waste of old Gav's talents as a writer really and when you're dealing with a Librarian, the constant purge the xenos motivation comes across as a bit thin.

It seems like it will be a very long time before you would find yourself playing the same mission on the same map multiple times. Combining this with all of the new skins, guns and abilities to unlock makes for a compelling reason to jump in and play pretty regularly.

For those that enjoy the lore and want to experience a 40K game in this genre, then you aren’t going to find it elsewhere, and it’s not a bad game. It is enjoyable despite its missteps, and has improved beyond the original release, with Streum On Studios showing they are/were committed to Deathwing’s idea and supporting it post release.

While the Enhanced Edition does make for a more tolerable experience, Space Hulk: Deathwing is still held back by an incredibly under-designed campaign, along with clunky mechanics that ooze into the multiplayer. The aesthetic, and overall tone, does shine, but the core gameplay loop feels severely lacking. While it's by no means bad, the combat simply isn't engaging enough to justify long playthroughs and the improved performance does nothing to fix the fundamentally inconsistent level design. Space Hulk: Deathwing might resonate with fans of Warhammer releases, but casual gamers are better off looking elsewhere for co-op first-person shooters.

Space Hulk: Death Wing Enhanced Edition is a very basic shooter. While the single player campaign felt lacking throughout, the rewarding progressive components added to the multiplayer aspect of the game delivers a worthwhile experience – if you have Brothers willing to follow you into battle.

If you really love Warhammer 40K and have a great deal of patience, you might like Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition. For most, though, it'll just be an exercise of tedium.

Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition is a game that lacks technical polish and variety of content. Even with good combat, it is recommended for those who wish to enjoy the cooperative multiplayer and fans of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Like Space Hulk: Deathwing, the Enhanced Edition remains an... okay-ish co-op shooter that mostly caters to the Warhammer 40K fan-base - and that's not enough. This is supposed to be the version that fixes all problems and greatly improves the game. The reality is that it's just a patch, and not an adequate one at that.

At the end of the day Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition feels like a fairly solid addition to the Warhammer 40k Universe. Its setting and visuals offer a great look at the dark gritty universe and the deliberate choices in combat mechanics will make you feel like a Space Marine. However, those same choices will definitely be a turn off to a lot of FPS players and when coupled with some awkward AI it's safe to say this title won't be for everyone.

Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition has a few enjoyable moments, especially in multiplayer, but, despite a few graphical improvements, and some technical fixes, it does very little to improve on 2016's original. The game is simply a old, boring and downright lacklustre first-person experience.

An admirable, yet failed attempt at fixing the game.

So is Space Hulk: Deathwing Enhanced Edition worth your time? Well, no. Not really. It isn't awful, but it isn't exactly great either. If you're mad for Warhammer 40,000 and the lore surrounding the franchise then perhaps you'll get more out of Space Hulk than I did. However, if you're looking to freshen up your first-person shooter collection then feel free to skip this one.

I can't see me playing a Special Mission each day, but that's because I'm not sure I can spend more time with this unpolished hulk. As much as I've been clamoring for another action WH40K game since Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine, it pains me to say this one does not fill that void. Deathwing has so much potential sitting there with the Dark Angels alone, not to mention roaming a Space Hulk, it's an absolute shame it falls short of the Emperor's expectations. I've been looking forward to this one since I first saw it at several E3s ago. Too bad it's as void and as lifeless as the derelict ships of the Space Hulk itself.

Space Hulk: Deathwing – Enhanced Edition is an improvement on the original version, but still nothing more than a semi-decent co-op shooter chained to a ditchwater dull campaign.

Space Hulk's latest iteration is potential squandered, regularly broken and guilty of a crime worse than the Horus Heresy…It's boring.
