A masterpiece - but one that can wear you down (sometimes for no reason at all).

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a landmark moment in the history of the Metroidvania genre; a full-fledged "sequel" that not only reminded its audience of what to expect from a sequel, but also put many of the re-releases that are released in the name of sequels to shame.

There's a reason why Hollow Knight: Silksong is such a highly anticipated and hyped title. And rightly so. While the game is enjoyable, the difficulty level may be too high for some players, and the map can sometimes feel chaotic.

Silksong is a harder, deeper sequel that refines Hollow Knight’s formula, balancing brutal difficulty with creativity, exploration, and rewards.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is bigger and better than its memorable predecessor. While its "bigger" nature brings side effects inherent to its excesses, the gameplay changes and the meticulous attention to detail are important motivators that keep us persevering through the numerous challenges of a rich, deep world filled with secrets that invite exploration for those curious and eager to dedicate themselves.

Hollow Knight: Silksong manages to be a surprisingly great sequel to a title that was all-too difficult to follow up. If you're a fan of the series, you'll find no better way to feel back home than in this sequel, but newcomers should still stick to exploring Hallownest for their first venture.
If you were fond of Hollow Knight, then you'll adore the Hornet's adventures. Since Silksong has improved all of the predecessor's strengths, it has become a deeper and more emotional experience. And it's hard as nails, yet rewarding as well!

Hollow Knight: Silksong was worth the wait. It is a masterclass on how to improve an already successful formula, expand on almost every single of its mechanics, change some things and keep surprising the player. It is so huge and full of stuff to do, that it makes you think you are never done, but in a good way. Even though it can be very difficult and frustrating, that makes it really satisfying to beat and keep improving.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, with its engaging story, high-quality level design, diverse and creative combat and platforming system, and a first-class role-playing experience, is undoubtedly one of the best Metroidvania games and can become one of your most unique experiences.

Promise Wish Granted! Silksong delivers on fans' dreams, but cranks the challenge up a notch too high, even to an unfair amount at times

Hollow Knight: Silksong is an audacious sequel that rebuilds rather than extends, pairing a vast, intricately interlinked world with Hornet's precise, silken movement to turn exploration into a dance. The Emblems + Tools system trims the wild build creativity of Charms for cleaner, tighter combat-coherent, but sometimes limiting when arenas pile up and bosses lean on minions. Punishing yet mostly fair, its early-game severity gives way to a thrilling sense of growth, all wrapped in exquisite art direction. A new benchmark for the genre: cohesive, densely packed, rich, memorable.

Hollow Knight: Silksong has earned a permanent place in my memory. It's an incredible sequel that expands on everything the first game introduced and gives fans an adventure full of secrets and excitement. Challenging, deep, and extremely satisfying to play. Hornet took her time, but it was worth every second of the wait.

Despite my criticisms, Hollow Knight: Silksong is a great game with a huge world and it's going to be a long journey to finish it 100% if I ever feel like doing so. However, I cannot recommend it if you're bad at platformers or action games because you'll be in for a very rough time.
In the end, Silksong is undeniably a good game; One that grew out of what was originally envisioned as a DLC and has now been released as a full-fledged sequel. Yet, the numerous gameplay flaws, both large and small, hold it back from reaching the status of a near-perfect masterpiece like its predecessor.
Beautiful, infuriating, engaging, melancholic. Hollow Knight Silksong lives up to its promise. It’s a sequel to a smash hit indie that stole hearts back in 2017, and it’s quite simply a masterpiece of a platforming 2D metroidvania video game. It excels in every possible area and improves on its predecessor in every way, except perhaps in difficulty… maybe that’s me though? This might actually be the game that convinces me to ‘get good’.
Of course, we recommend playing the first part if you want to get the full experience of the game, but in general if you decide to enter the world of the game through the Hollow Knight Silksong portal it will be a very complete and very enjoyable experience, but be prepared for some many frustrations due to the difficulty of the game.

I’m absolutely thrilled, and even though I sometimes felt frustrated, I’ll remember Silksong as a game I had an incredibly good time with. It’s a project perfectly tailored to its target audience, and since September, fans have been dissecting every little detail searching for story easter eggs. We can probably start counting the decades until Team Cherry’s next project, but before that happens, I hope we’ll still get a few awesome expansions.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be a benchmark for metroidvania games, just like its predecessor. Its increased difficulty, combined with exploration and progressive endings, promise many hours of gameplay presented with high aesthetics and music. Because if nothing else, music is medicine for the soul, especially when the song is made of silk.
