We've waited a long time, but patience is a virtue, and it has rewarded us with this gem from Team Cherry. To the famous question: is the sequel better than the original? In terms of form, it's a resounding yes. The game improves on absolutely every aspect of its predecessor. In terms of content, I would tend to say that the games are equivalent. The lore of the first game was more interesting, but that doesn't mean Silksong isn't good. We get attached to the characters and always want to find out more about them. What is certain is that Team Cherry has mastered this particular genre. While there have been precursors, they are the future. And we can only hope that they will continue for a long time to come.

Silksong doesn't reinvent the wheel as a game, but it does do a lot to refine the Hollow Knight formula and experiment with new mechanics. Although we waited for 6 years for this game to finally release, Team Cherry held to their promise that they'd make a game worth remembering, and they did. Hollow Knight: Silksong definitely lived up to the hype that surrounded it for so long and has quickly become one of my favorite games of the year.

Hollow Knight: Silksong asks the player to meet on its own terms. It's completely unashamed of itself or the challenges and warts of the experience it offers. Even its strongest supporters will likely say that it pissed them off at some point or another. It revels in its own excess to the point of hubris at times, and most of its issues feel like a consequence of said hubris. Yet underneath it all, I think Silksong is one of the most triumphant sequels I’ve ever played. It leans into a great many of the strengths of its forebearer while improving on so many areas, all without sacrificing the trademark ruthlessness of Hollow Knight. Silksong combines excellent action and platforming into one of the most salient, gripping, and addictive platformers I’ve ever played.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a flawed masterpiece. To the right player, it can be one of the greatest games of all time. But that’s only if they are able to look past or easily overcome the grueling, unforgiving challenges that come up regularly. From the world design to the music, characters, and animations, this is a monumental achievement, but had I not been working on this review, I would have given up on Silksong a long time ago. That certainly says something about me as a player, but it also says something about the game, too.

Hollow Knight: Silksong takes you by the hand and never lets go, being addictive and challenging in equal measure. With a protagonist who feels more human (if you can call her that), Team Cherry has taken the metroidvania genre to another level with a game full of detail and polished from start to finish. Its soundtrack immerses you completely in the kingdom the Australian team has been building for seven years, and I can’t wait to see it again in future expansions, hopefully not too far from now.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, despite its tunnel vision, is the pinnacle of action metroidvanias. From now on every product that tackles this genre will necessarily have to deal with this title. Care and fine workmanship in the graphics, soundtrack and sound design immerse the player in the world of Pharloom. The level design itself is cared for almost obsessively: secrets, shortcuts, curiosity and satisfaction in having passed a certain point will be the order of the day. However, all this beauty comes at a price, and sometimes it is too expensive. Although the controls are excellent and responsive and only a few times the game feels “unfair” towards the player, the effort that Hollow Knight: Silksong asks for is great and undeniable. The boss fights themselves (of which there are many) reward the player’s positioning, patience and ability to find the right opening for the boss. The same goes for the platform phases which sometimes make those in the White City seem easy. Above all, act 3, designed as a reward for the daredevils, is not really for everyone and I don’t say this with elitist disdain. I honestly can’t stand these terms and I believe that there are no series A or series B players, because a game should entertain and unite, not divide. Surely Hollow Knight: Silksong is a gem, with a level of challenge that we will remember for a long time.

Fans of the original Hollow Knight, who have also completed its DLC, will have an amazing time with Silksong. Boss design is flawless, barring a few exceptions; environments and music are top-notch, basically, you’re guaranteed tens of hours of entertainment. However, the difficulty curve is a bit too steep for gamers less experienced with the genre. Couple that with intentionally infuriating design in some places, and the game can be pretty frustrating. The complete game still shows off the meticulous 7 years of work by the developers from Team Cherry.

Although Hollow Knight: Silksong is not a perfect experience, and its flaws could have been easily avoided, it remains a great experience and a successful sequel to one of the most amazing indie games. Most aspects of the combat style and level design have evolved significantly, demonstrating the maturity of Team Cherry, which has preserved and even surpassed the great visual and audio experience of the first installment. So if you want a challenging Metroidvania experience packed with content, Silksong will definitely not disappoint.

A true masterclass in how a Metroidvania should be made, Hollow Knight: Silksong improves on everything the first game offered and opens the door to new strategies and combat varieties. The difficulty is also higher, which serves as a warning for new players. Even so, it’s an incredible game that every fan of the genre should play.

You reader, might not enjoy the game for its difficulty, but for me, it respects my time, and wants me to improve. It doesn't hold my hand but rather guides me to seek mastery. Isn't that what makes games fun? Silksong reminds me and many others how much fun a game used to be. . . I am glad that there exists developers who also remembers those time.

Silksong is a flawed masterpiece. Team Cherry has raised the bar beyond every single aspect of Hollow Knight, but in doing so, overstepped the line between satisfying challenge and punishing frustration. With a truly compelling and sprawling world alongside intuitive movement and combat, Silksong has every single ingredient for perfection. But many players will be unlikely to enjoy the full experience. For those willing to endure, Silksong will entrap you in a compelling experience that’s a joy to be relieved of.

With a subtle story similar to its predecessor, Hollow Knight Silksong creates an interesting, captivating world that contrasts beautifully with the first Hollow Knight. It's a game made with love, priced affordably, that democratizes the game in a struggling industry, and I have nothing but praise for Team Cherry.

Hollow Knight: Silksong impresses with the attention to detail in every aspect: Hornet's agility refreshes both combat and exploration in the meticulously crafted world. The impeccable setting brings Pharloom to life, making it a fascinating kingdom to explore, full of secrets and memorable moments. Despite this, some excesses and the punishing difficulty may turn fascination into frustration, requiring a bit of persistence. Even so, Silksong stands out as a memorable and grand experience, capable of both enchanting and challenging in equal measure.
