Journey to the Savage Planet is well worth checking out if you’re looking for something to fill the void of time you’ve got during this fairly quiet start to 2020. The sense of exploration drives you forward, the satirical comedy lands every time, and the presentation on the whole just adds to the magical sense of exploring and mapping an uncharted planet.

With its surprisingly creative level design, architecture, and platforming mechanics, Journey to the Savage Planet will wow your eyes, while its quirky humor entertains you from time to time. Unfortunately, flaws such as uninspired combat, lack of enemy variety, and a fairly short campaign mar what could've been a truly unforgettable journey.

Journey to the Savage Planet is full of breathtaking alien environments that you're encouraged to explore. I loved solving all of its puzzles and scanning each new flora and fauna I came across, but the shooting mechanics and world building could use some more work.

It's a game of MacGuffins, so to speak—what you're doing and why you're doing it is inessential to the joys and the juice on offer.

Journey to the Savage Planet is absolutely dripping with charm and personality, but the repetitive nature of the exploration and the stiff combat hold it back from being truly great.

Typhoon Studios, formed by veterans of the Canadian industry, presents a great space exploration game for when we simply want to enjoy and let ourselves go, even if that means losing some depth and challenge.

One quality I admire most of this title is that right from the start it leads with a pretty messed up sense of humor...

The Switch port of Journey to the Savage Planet might have been a disappointing due to the severe amount of visual setbacks and a somewhat lackluster overall performance, but at the end of the day, it’s still a very playable and hilarious experience. If you can ignore the graphical hindrances in favor of the ability to play this game on-the-go, then this is an easy recommendation.

Journey to the Savage Planet is a concise yet well focused adventure that channels the best bits of games like Metroid and Prey. Despite this, some unsatisfying combat and repetitive locales keep it from being the achievement that it could be.

Journey to the Savage Planet is a good way to start 2020. A fun adventure that has found the right balance in the size of its map and exploration incentives. The main story beat is rather uninteresting, but the whole funny script they wrote around the beautiful world is a delight. The lackluster combat also hurts it a little, but exploring and experimenting with the game's mechanics to solve puzzles and traverse the world was quite fun.

Journey to the Savage Planet doesn't as savage or wild as I thought, actually the style is a little bit weird and funny. Of course, it's not perfect but at the end of the day, I enjoy spending time on the Planet especially with my friends.

The game experience with Journey to the Savage Planet has been more than positive: if you love first person platformers, sci-fi and you are not really made for seriousness, you will certainly find "Grob" for your teeth...

Journey to the Savage Planet is a layered and searing portrait of colonialism that will make you laugh throughout, and it plays so much more like an off-the-wall N64 RPG with updated graphics than any of the adventurous space epics on the shelf today. That's to say it's confident in its absurdity and knows that "groundbreaking" and "fun" don't have to go hand-in-hand. It's hard not to enjoy the time you'll spend on AR-Y 26.

Who knew that 2020 would start off with quite a charming sci-fi endeavour from a small studio like Typhoon? I certainly didn’t, and I don’t regret it one bit.

If surfing the amazing planet was accompanied by a more captivating story, the end result could have been even better.
