Project Cards 3 feels less like a simulator and more like an arcade racing game. If you are a series veteran this might feel like a wrong direction for the series, but newcomers should appreciate all the accesibility options available for them.

Project Cars 3 would've been more successful if it was called something else. It leaves far too many important features on the table for hardcore racers, with an AI that's too buggy and weird for new players. It feels rushed and could use some serious patches.

Project Cars 3 will definitely have a place for those wanting a quick and easy racing game with a ton of customisation, cars, tracks and challenges. For more seasoned racing fans, or anyone looking for something even remotely different to what we have seen hundreds of times before, you will definitely need to look elsewhere.

Project CARS 3 represents a huge shift in Slightly Mad Studios' attitude towards racing games. I suppose this means the studio lives up to their name! What Project CARS 3 lacks in realism, it now makes up for with accessibility. However, lacking the flair of other established racers in this arcade-sim genre such as The Crew 2 or Need for Speed will make it a tougher sell. Still, there are a couple hundred new events to try, with hundreds of cars to tweak, upgrade, and drive. So, if Project CARS is to continue down this path of more friendly racing, then they are on the right track, but whether their regular fans will be along for the ride is another question entirely.

Project Cars 3, at least on the base console versions, isn’t quite the polished sequel we were hoping for, but despite its foibles – and there are many – it’s entertaining. The racing can be fun, finding that niche of being accessible and competitive.

In a lot of ways Project CARS 3 is reminiscent of the Forza Horizon series, though executed without any of the flair or fun that made the latter enjoyable. If you’re a racing fan, be it arcade or simulation, I recommend you avoid this game – it’s a thoroughly unenjoyable experience from a once great series.

Project Cars 3 is bustling with things to do. It's as accessible as the series has ever been, and while marred by some inconsistencies in its presentation, is for the most part a joy to play.

Overall, Project CARS 3 is a fun racer, even if it isn’t accelerating at full speed when it comes to quality and ambition.

While some might balk at the fact that Project Cars 3 is designed to be accessible, under the hood is the same bone-grindingly difficult racing sim that the series has always been.

Project Cars 3 shifts from simulation to simcade drive style, and redesign from the ground the career mode. At the moment. PS4 version has a lot of serious technical flaws.

In the end, I will always judge a game based on the amount of fun I had with it, and I can say that Project Cars 3 delivered nicely on that front.

Project CARS 3 is a serious departure from the franchise's roots. It takes a lot of risks, but those willing to make the jump will find a fun and rewarding racing experience

In conclusion. The game lacks individual character. It gave up the charm it had worked so hard to build and tried to be too much at once. Struggling with it's own identity, its flaws shine above its own achievements. Does it want to be a sim racer? Does it want to be an arcade racer? Is it appealing to the masses? Or is it appealing to die hard fans?

Ultimately, I feel the greatest mistake that Project CARS 3 makes is being called what it is. Fans of the previous two games probably won’t find what they expect here, while those who disliked them could possibly be put off by the name. This is essentially a paradigm shift for the series, taking it into new territory with mass-market appeal.

Project CARS 3 isn’t a bad game, it’s just too much of a change from the type of game fans have come to expect from the series.

This new entry with Project Cars has given the series an identity crisis, and where the developers could have taken their existing learning and delivered the previous Project Cars vision to an all-new degree, instead we've got the team effectively starting from scratch again.

Project CARS 3 may be the best entry game for beginners. The easiness in embracing new players left the game with a more arcade or semi-simulator style. Hardcore players need to dig deeper to get the simulation experience from previous games, but it's still possible to find it. It won't be a perfect title anywhere, but the reimagining career mode and creating a good online environment can provide fun for anyone interested in the game.

A new direction for the series, one that plays well and is rich in content, but lacks the polish or personality of the best in the genre.
