Without a doubt, TUNIC is one of the surprises of the year, Andrew Shouldice, has managed to create a most original metroidvania but with an improvable sound section, where everything is important and a secret awaits. A highly recommended title with an excellent artistic section that becomes a Must Have if you are a fan of the genre.

It is a marvel of the indie industry that will surely surprise more than one‎‎ with its entertaining mechanics, its careful artistic design, and an overall experience that can feel unique, even despite the familiar essence that it gives off, from inside each of its dungeons.‎

I enjoyed Tunic, and I was pleased during most of my time with the game. It’s challenging, but it’s also tranquil. It’s a little slice of puzzle-y goodness in the middle of multiple massive open-world releases, and for that I’m grateful it exists. I just wish sometimes Tunic would meet me halfway and not leave me frustrated either with the controls or with the exploration.

A stunningly beautiful homage to the golden age of 16-bit gaming, featuring razor sharp mechanics, excellent world design, challenging combat, clever puzzles, and an incredible score. Dripping with charm, confidence, and polished to a mirror sheen, Tunic is an adventure that is not to be missed.

Where other isometric games of this sort heavily telegraph areas and objects that you should return to later, the levels here subtly fold in on themselves in ways that are both slyly hidden and obvious in hindsight. Tunic appears unassuming and even a little routine on the surface, but it constantly reveals how clever it is every time it encourages us to take a closer look.

Tunic is a fantastically clever adventure that kicks off in familiar Zelda-esque fashion before branching out to become its own thing entirely. There's an exquisitely designed world to explore here, a great big puzzle-box to probe and prod at as you progress through a story that's got just the right amount of mystery and intrigue about it to keep you hooked in. Combat can be a little clumsy at points early on but it improves as new powers are introduced and the game develops and grows into a surprisingly big, surprisingly challenging experience that's absolutely one of our favourite games of 2022 so far.

There are a lot of interesting and dangerous places in Tunic that offer enough diversity to make the game exciting the whole way through. The fixed camera angle makes it easy to miss hidden areas, such as a path behind a waterfall or a room around the corner, but discovering new sections of Tunic is part of what makes it so fun. The possibility that anything can be cleverly hidden just outside of view makes exploring worthwhile. Tunic is a highly enjoyable action-adventure game that does well in honoring some of the classic titles it was inspired by.

TUNIC is an obtuse deconstruction of the original Legend of Zelda, capturing its spirit and modernizing it with a soulslike edge.

So this is the magic of Tunic, the ability to combine tradition and innovation, using as main ingredient an element, the manual, which is really one of the most extraordinary devices ever seen recently in a videogame. It also has a certain symbolic and emotional value, for those who still remember the instruction manuals of twenty years ago. It doesn't matter if in the very last hours you feel the lack of an amalgam (narrative, above all, since also the story is quite obscure), that fully justifies the resolution of the most hidden puzzles (whose resolution is necessary to unlock the real ending): it is the small and negligible duty to pay to the creation of an exciting, intelligent and unique experience.

Tunic is precisely the short but awesome game that so many players are missing these days. But, even if you’re left wanting more after finishing it, what you get is a meticulously crafted and heartfelt game that deserves more than a few praises.

TUNIC is a dense journey filled with hidden paths and puzzles that provide a remarkable sense of accomplishment. Using an in-game instruction manual is a brilliant idea that makes learning and gradually revealing how the world works more enjoyable. While the combat isn’t flawless, the rest of the exploration is. This is a game for fans of classic action adventures, cute little foxes, discovery, and secrets. However, the real secret is how wonderful TUNIC is.

TUNIC is both an incredible and incredibly frustrating title. The combat lets down what otherwise is a masterpiece. If you can look past it or feel fine using the accessibility options it is worth checking out. Gorgeous graphics, incredible music, and intriguing lore just may be enough to carry you through, and being available day one on Game Pass on PC and console certainly doesn’t hurt either.
