Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer moves the formula forward with bigger maps and more customization without sacrificing its bulletproof mechanics. [OpenCritic note: IGN separately reviewed the multiplayer (8) and single-player campaign (6). Their scores have been averaged.]

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is the usual well crafted FPS, but it could just have been an update for the previous entry. It has a new campaign, but some of its moment are way more worrying than intriguing, at best.

Modern Warfare II capitalizes on the campaign of its predecessor but fails to give it irreverence. It relies on its strong gameplay to build visually incredible action sequences, but fails to provide risky moments and narratives. The truth is that they say that in a winning team you don't move, and here you find a quality shooter.

There is a great multiplayer experience in Modern Warfare II, due to its careful movement and strong gunplay, but with an uneven campaign and terrible co-op, the franchise has been better equipped in previous battles.

I admit my general impression of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is mixed. On the one hand, the campaign is only average and various elements demand polishing, but on the other hand, we have an excellent gameplay and beautiful production. Personally, I see the balance pending to the positive side, especially with the upcoming Warzone 2.0 and the promise of longer [multiplayer support] life time.

The Multiplayer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare II seems like the great start for two years of upcoming content. Infinity Ward has really put the basics for a long term blockbuster multiplayer game despite some map design flaws but it will surely an entertaining experience that will keep you and your friends busy

Although Modern Warfare 2 is short in terms of story, it offers an enjoyable 5-6 hours. Multiplayer modes have similar flavors but managed to maintain the fun.

Great campaign, coupled with intense multiplayer mayhem but all of that is dragged down by an infuriating number of freezes, crashes, and stutters - both in single-player and multiplayer.

Perhaps the expectations were too high, but one would expect a more refined single-player campaign and more fresh ideas for the multiplayer mode. Instead what we've got is just another Call of Duty.

While the gameplay is as satisfying as it's ever been, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II's multiplayer is bogged down by some bizarre omissions and truly frustrating bugs and glitches.

Call of Duty returns for yet another year, and while the campaign feels a little bit like a case of diminishing returns, the strength of two-player co-op and multiplayer pulls Modern Warfare 2 through.

Modern Warfare 2 dials back Call of Duty's multiplayer experience for a refreshing and more classic feel, but the overall package is incomplete. [OpenCritic note: GameSpot separately reviewed the multiplayer (7) and single-player campaign (8). Their scores have been averaged.]

Still, it's hard to feel like the multiplayer wasn't just thrown into the wild for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. It's not unplayable, but there are so many flaws that consistently and almost constantly crop up. The lack of post-launch support makes it feel as though Call of Duty is a victim of its own success, and it really doesn't matter what state it's in or how quickly it gets fixed because millions of people have already purchased it, and it'll all be forgotten before the launch of the next one. My hope is that the players won't be simply taken for granted going forward, but in the meantime, Modern Warfare II certainly subscribes to the mentality of, "Screw it. People are going to buy it anyway."

Is it because of the pressure of showing a better story than the previous work? They ended up with the story line that doesn't even add up and destroyed the plausibility between the characters, rather became a poor story compared to last one. However, high-quality shooting action and photo-realistic graphics that you expect from the series is still there, giving a genuine joy of FPS itself.

Even if you've never played a Call of Duty, or dipped in and out of the franchise every so often, you'll probably be okay with not knowing who Task Force 141 and Soap MacTavish, Ghost, and Captain Price are before jumping into the campaign.

During two days of fierce battles, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 with its excellent audio-visual effects and intense fighting rhythm brought me an exciting and refreshing game experience. If the IW team can solve the vicious problems that greatly affect the game experience, and continue to introduce interesting new content in the after seasons, I'll be willing to spend hundreds of hours on it.

It is a game that remains within the decent, it is not at all the fifth wonder of the world, but neither can it be interpreted as a disaster that will leave users indifferent, especially the most fanatical. The next installment must commit to delivering a product worthy of the new generation of consoles, since it seems that PS4 and Xbox One are limiting in some way.

The standard multiplayer generally retains the series’ three-lane structure, although some new maps (including one set at the aforementioned border and filled with explosive cars) smartly mix things up. With the huge success of Call Of Duty’s battle royale, Warzone, and its enormous player counts and vast maps, it almost seems like a novelty to indulge in short multiplayer battles with regular bursts of spawn/kill/die action. The Special Ops co-op mode also makes a return, although it’s less distinct than previous entries and it hews irritatingly close to Warzone’s expanse. It’s strange to see Call Of Duty so circumspect but overall this is an impressive package.
