Turning a demonic cult into a management simulator is an amusing idea but the cute graphics are the only lasting entertainment to be had from this misjudged muddle of a game.

It's that coagulation that makes the experience so unique, if a little shallow. That said, the Switch version is so tainted by the oppressively bad technical performance that it tanks the entire experience. Don't play it here unless it's your only option or Massive Monster resurrects it with a patch.

Cult of the Lamb is devoted to a mix of gameplay styles that just doesn't gel. It's an addictive way to spend a dozen hours, but it's nothing worth your worship.

If you fall in love with the main loop and the freedom to design and interact with your followers, then you can expect to take at least 30 fun hours out of it, but don’t go in there expecting anything innovative in either the rouge-like or management-sim departments.

Cult of the Lamb takes elements from well-regarded franchises on the market, such as The Binding of Isaac and Animal Crossing, and applies them in a game that takes us back to the dubious humor of Happy Tree Friends. In addition to offering hours of content, even if based on grinding, and several customization options for both faithful and doctrines and other improvements, the title brings an impeccable audiovisual presentation that manages to seduce us into being part of this strangely cute satanic cult. On the other hand, performance on Switch hurts gameplay, which, by itself, can become repetitive over time. Therefore, until these specific flaws are corrected, it is difficult to recommend the Nintendo hybrid console.

The way Cult of the Lamb smoothes this out is by affording constant upgrades, skills, side missions, new NPCs, mini-games, and more.

Cult of the Lamb excels as a darkly comedic management game, though its roguelite component commits some cardinal sins.

Beyond the persisting post-launch bugs, Cult of the Lamb delivers an original indie title that masterfully blends Rogue-like mechanics and cult management in addictive bouts.

Cult of the Lamb relies on its demented humor and zany ideas that add charm. Sadly, some mechanics are either too streamlined or troublesome. You're bound to enjoy it for several hours until it becomes repetitive to a fault.

Cult of the Lamb is a great mix of roguelite and build-up sim, but it remains a bit too shallow

The marriage of roguelite and management makes Cult of the Lamb a real surprise. Beautiful to look at and challenging to play, Massive Monster's title is a lot of fun thanks to a good balance between its two natures.

Cult of the Lamb is worthy of attention from both roguelike fans and simulation players - even if the gameplay is a bit lacking in both design depth. But the developers know how to use hell jokes to keep players interested.

If you're on the fence about playing this, then don't hurt your conscience, but if you do, wait for patch fixes.

There are strokes of a masterpiece in here, with excellent music, whimsical characters, starkly themed visuals, just enough narrative push, and management tools that allow for the player to really experience their own story. If you don't optimize the fun out of Cult of the Lamb, there's an incredible amount of it to be had.

My time with Cult of The Lamb was a delight. I have recommended it to a lot of my friends already. Massive Monster and Devolver Digital are likely to grab a stack of awards for this “Cult” hit. I award Cult Of The Lamb the Thumb Culture Gold Award

Devilishly cute and hilarious! That is the best description for Cult of the Lamb. This Roguelike uses several gameplay elements that also turned out great. Are you a good leader or do you sacrifice everyone for your sweet revenge?

Its mixture of fast-paced rogue-like action and deliberate cult management works wonders, delivering crunchy, high-stakes combat and rewarding, open-ended simulation gameplay.

Dividing its time beautifully between rouge-like dungeon crawler and cult management simulator, Cult of the lamb is everything you would want and need from the mix of genres. A fantastic soundtrack and incredibly moreish gameplay, this is a big recommendation for anyone who is in awe of the vibrantly cute aesthetic it presents. While it’s currently harrowed by some glitches preventing certain aspects of gameplay from shining, once these are ironed out this could easily be ‘Game of the Year’ material.

"Cult of the Lamb" can convince more as an idea than as a product. Minor defects exist at all corners and ends. The balance of the game leaves much to be desired, and it seems as if the progress of the cult is almost twice as fast as intended for the story. Nevertheless, "Cult of the Lamb" captivates not least thanks to the look and the original setting. With around ten hours of play, it is without a doubt rather short for a roguelike adventure.
