Steelrising is a very unique Soulslike game. The developers clearly tried to make this game as French as possible and this worked well. The combat is fun and the bosses are also uniquely designed. The story is where Steelrising missed the mark. All characters look the same and it's just very boring to go through. The checkpoints and currency could have been better. The Assisst mode is the best aspect of this game, it helps newcomers to the Soulslike genre to give them the best experience as possible.

Spiders have modified the soulslike formula in some very unique ways, but not for the worse. Steelrising's enjoyable and smooth gameplay might attract attention of wider gaming audience, however this might be curtailed by the very demanding GPU requirements.

Steelrising offers a good story, but on the other hand, it suffers from a lot, whether the gameplay, the average graphic level, or even the diversity of enemies and bosses, which makes it a missed opportunity that the French developer did not take advantage of to turn it into a success.

Despite its flaws, Steelrising will reward those who give it the time. It's fun to explore, with a rewarding combat system and quality-of-life features that'd be welcomed in more soulslikes. While its easier difficulty and rough presentation may drive away some Dark Souls veterans, there's plenty on offer when overlooking its faults.

Steelrising is yet another feather in Spiders’ cap that clearly shows how far the developer has come. Not content with putting out a steady stream of sprawling Western RPGs, the plucky French studio has made a largely seamless transition to the souls-like genre. Hitbox frustrations aside, Steelrising’s challenging combat and deep world-building feel like the work of a team who have been churning out souls-likes for years, rather than a studio stepping into uncharted territory, and they’ve successfully created a world that I hope we see a lot more of in the coming years.

Starting from an interesting uchrony, Steelrising throws us into the French Revolution, moving away from realism and gaining by a way the great focus of attention for the public: the automatons. When you get into the game mechanics, the problem is that it presents some very similar to Souls and, although it manages to make certain differences, it does not get you out of your head the title on which they are based. The good thing is that the narrative part has a lot of weight and can become more than enough motivation to dedicate the necessary hours to it.

Steelrising is a perfect entry-level game for the newcomer to the Soulslike genre. The challenge is lower than expected, but certainly not lacking.

Steelrising confirms the golden age of Spiders' team, with a solid and compelling soulslike. Nothing new, but a complete, funny and rewarding game.

With its setting and story, Steelrising could have been the Bloodborne-inspired Soulslike that many have been waiting for since the release of From Software's masterpiece. Unfortunately, the game developed by Spiders doesn't manage to be anything more than a middling game, with its gameplay issues making it hard to recommend to those who are not die-hard fans of the genre.

Spiders Studio tackles a different sub-genre of RPG with Steelrising, going for a Souls-like experience this time around. While competent, it doesn't achieve much to stand out from the crowd.

Steelrising is the epitome of a solid, low-highlight soulslike that will pass you the time until the next genre hit.

The game tickles that part of your brain that big hitters like Elden Ring and Dark Souls do, even if it does so with less intensity. If you’re absolutely fiending for more of that kind of game, or are just looking for a fair-weather bash, pick it up with tempered expectations.

Steelrising is an original product with an interesting setting, a study of the world and a fascinating plot, placed in the capsule of a simple Souls-game with simple graphics. But the world and history here outweigh the scales, causing me to lavish on high praise.

Steelrising is a well-thought-out action RPG, which will be recognized because of its fresh gameplay features. Not only do you get to experience challenging and exhilarating encounters against raging automatons, but you are also able to appreciate exploring the beautiful horrors caused by these abominations. If you have been looking for a fun and more forgiving Soulslike title worth trying, then Steelrising might be just what you are looking for.

Thanks to its setting, outstanding art, and level design, paired with excellent combat mechanics, Steelrising makes a strong case for itself in a very crowded Soulsborne landscape. Occasional uninspired bosses, sketchy platforming and technical issues only slightly marred the overall experience. Steelrising is a Soulslike from start to finish, but it stands out as a game I actually can’t wait to play through again.

On the surface, Steelrising looks like “just another soulslike with a twist”, but the more I played, the more I felt enamoured by its gorgeous aesthetic, its likable robot protagonist and its variety of horrifying, angry automaton enemies. By incorporating cutscenes, a linear narrative and traditional RPG quest structure, it keeps the action and progression feeling very focused throughout, with no real roadblocks aside from the difficulty itself. Then, if that’s bothering you too, you can turn on Assist Mode and still enjoy the experience your own way. Despite some simplistic combat and unmemorable boss fights, Steelrising is a satisfying robot action romp that earns bonus points for being one of the most accessible soulslike titles on the market, meaning more gamers will be able to enjoy its haunting vision of alternate history Paris overrun by dastardly machines. Bon travail!

Steelrising has a great premise, and all the ingredients necessary to be a great Soulslike game. It just doesn't get the mix right, ending up all the more frustrating for how good it could be.

Steelrising never quite feels like a cohesive experience, but its warring halves of Soulslike combat and narrative RPG storytelling are compelling enough in and of themselves.
