The best boomer shooter I've played in a long time, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is weapons-grade catnip for genre fans and Warhammer 40,000 fans alike. Indeed in retrospect, crafting a retro style FPS in the Warhammer 40,000 universe feels like something we should have had long before now - so perfect is the fit of form and function. In the Warhammer 40,000 universe there is only war. Apparently there are also supremely great shooters too. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a riotously violent and thoroughly entertaining shooter that everybody needs to play.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a gift to anyone who have strong feelings towards the universe. It's a great shooter, the best one that came out under 40K brand, and probably one of the best games this whole year.

Blasting the demons of the dark into pixelated piles of bloody mush never felt so good. With a vibrant world, an engaging gameplay loop, and an ever-expanding arsenal of catastrophic weapons at your hands, you, too, will find glory in taking out those pesky demons.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is that rarest and most beautiful of things. A great original Warhammer 40K game. It has a solid sense of what it wants to be, and the developers had the skill to nail what they went for. A classic boomer shooter, that doesn’t just copy the classics but replicates and even improves what made them work. The level design is genuinely genius, with so much variety and visual style. The gunplay is fast, hectic, and deliciously gory. And the music and graphics blend classic and modern styles together beautifully.

One of the best shooters of 2023, and if you’re a fan of the genre, this is a bargain-priced game that will offer a solid 8+ hours of entertainment. There are a small number of minor issues, but if you like running and gunning, this is an easy game to recommend.

The Warhammer 40,000 universe is a good match for a retro shooter and Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is proof that the concept works. Not every Games Workshop licensed game is a winner, but Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun crosses the finish line in style. It’s not deep or complex. Most of its core mechanics are decades old. But I had more simple, addictive fun with Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun than with many, more sophisticated shooters of late.

Warhammer 40.000: Boltgun is an exquisite boomer-shooter to play. Everything from music to graphics and gameplay screams quality and it is totally worth the $20 price tag. Developers Autorch did a solid job on Boltgun, and we can praise them for adding much care and love into making such a great shooter. We highly suggest you pick up Warhammer 40k: Boltgun if you are itching for an old-style FPS.

While there are hundreds of Warhammer games out there, few of them really stand out among the pack. Boltgun is one of those games and even non-fans of the universe owe it to themselves to check it out. It is visceral, addictive, and paced extremely well. The array of difficulty options offer up something for everyone and it has some of the best weapon feel of any of these types of games out there. I cannot recommend this game enough for anyone looking for a good time blowing up pixelated baddies.

The game is a fun and addictive retro FPS with a violent atmosphere. It effectively utilizes the Warhammer 40,000 brand and offers a balanced experience in terms of graphics, sound, and gameplay. While it could have more varied levels and smoother platforming sections, it's still a must-play for genre fans.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun may not reinvent the wheel, but it does an exceptional job of perpetuating the style of shooters it pays homage to in style. A must-have for Doom and Warhammer fans alike

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is a retro shooter from the 90s at its best, but it also manages to be a game that can be enjoyed in the modern era.

It is true that a shooter of these characteristics has its own well-known limitations and a structure that does not invent the wheel, but as I often say in my texts, there are times when more is not always better. And in their own limitations, the good folks at Auroch Digital have created a little gem.
