Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a work that should never have been made. The fact that it was initially supposed to be an expansion of the previous title speaks volumes. The sequel blatantly copies what the series came up with long ago and in an even more dysfunctional way. The title is in the vein of Warzone's battle royale mode, which is crammed into both the campaign and zombies mode, and the multiplayer delivers virtually identical gameplay, environments, and weapons to what we played last year. Not even great graphics or technical artistry can salvage the fact that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is below average.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is a low point for the series. A passable multiplayer suite can't prop up the uninspired campaign, and dreadfully dull zombies mode. The series needs to take a break from the annualised release schedule, and inject some much needed creativity into the legendary franchise.
Even by the tempered expectations of this fatigued franchise, Modern Warfare III deserves nothing less than a dishonorable discharge.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 falls into the trap of relying too heavily on its multiplayer component, neglecting the other aspects of the game that made previous titles so engaging. While the multiplayer is undoubtedly enjoyable, the lackluster single-player and disappointing zombie mode leave a sour taste in the mouth. Fans of the series might find some temporary satisfaction in the adrenaline-pumping multiplayer, but the game's overall shortcomings make it a disappointing addition to the Call of Duty franchise.

To me, the multiplayer experience we got is a Call of Duty game worthy the franchise’s 20 year anniversary.
As much time as I try to put into Modern Warfare III, and as many chances as I try to give it, it’s just way too rough. This feels like an early access version of the game. It’s missing way too much that would make it it’s own game in its own right, including original maps, an original zombies experience (with maps that aren’t just the DMZ map), and a campaign that is actually engaging. Playing four hours of a campaign you don’t really have any interest in isn’t worth $70.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 feels more like a DLC to Modern Warfare 2 than a title in its own right. The campaign mode is extremely short and poorly handled, while the multiplayer is plagued by an unbalanced meta and SBMM. The zombie mode gets a makeover, winking at Warzone and making it an extraction game.

Activision had earlier decided against releasing a CoD title this year, opting instead for a “premium expansion” for Modern Warfare II. The publisher, perhaps scared of the financial repercussions of not sticking to an annual release cycle, later decided MW III to be a standalone entry. All the evidence from MW III's campaign, however, points at little effort to do so. With rehashed missions, lazy Warzone style sections, and a sore lack of typical Call of Duty knockout set pieces, Modern Warfare III does not feel like a full game, especially at that $70 price point. The original Modern Warfare games redefined the first-person shooter genre; the trilogy's uninspired rerun, on the other hand, represents its decay.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III arguably sees the series in something of a holding pattern. It neither completely finishes the solo narrative, nor revolutionises the online experience. Indeed, this release may well be quite unlike what Sledgehammer Games were originally meant to deliver. Established series veterans will grumble about the relative lack of completely new material, but this is another polished continuation for a series which likely has another decade left in it.
Modern Warfare 3 isn't a bad game per se, there's just the very concrete idea that it's not a game built from scratch, but built on top of MW2 and shuffled over again. These are mere visual notes and changes to some mechanics that give it a marginally different image, it's not for me a new and complete game, it's more of an extra component of last year's work. It was enough to have been put out here as additional content where the highlight would be the Zombies mode and the tiny campaign of just over 3 hours. Those who own MW2 don't have much appeal to buy it here, unless they are unconditional fans of the Zombies.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III picks up where they left off last year. Changing course in the meantime turns out to be anything but effective. The single player is far too short and feels too rushed. The multiplayer also does exactly what you would expect, namely not being entertaining due to the toxic behavior of the players. Add to that the fact that there are no new maps, but only directly transferred maps from Modern Warfare 2 from 2009. Is there anything positive about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III? Yes, Zombies is quite entertaining because there is more to it.

Despite the few glaring issues, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) surpasses Modern Warfare II in every possible way. This is Sledgehammer’s redemption arc for the multiplayer of their last game, Call of Duty: Vanguard, which had plenty to be desired. Clearly, going old school with the maps was the juice needed to finally replenish the franchise. Additionally, as the gameplay and content are much more exciting, immersive, and engaging, this feels like the traditional Call of Duty we all know and love. So, is Call of Duty back? You bet it is. Great job, Sledgehammer.
Despite the franchise's 20-year development cycle, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023) manages to be one of the series' poorest titles. The campaign is among the most underwhelming of the series and the multiplayer still needs some major liftup. After being a fan of the single-player Call of Duty games for such a long time, seeing such a drastic drop in quality for such a vital series pillar was disappointing. Call of Duty hardcore fans would probably buy this release anyway despite its high price tag, but if you're still thinking about buying Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2023), wait for a reasonable price drop.
The real question is; is MW3 worth the price? I would say no. Although multiplayer is insanely fun, there seems to be more in store with the addition of the new maps. The campaign and zombie mode let down the game as a whole. The campaign in Call of Duty has always been one of my favourite story-driven games, especially with the heights of MW2 and MW3. But yet, this campaign has left me wanting more. Especially in the longevity of the mode itself. And while I commend Call of Duty for trying something different in regard to zombies. It unfortunately does not hit the mark. And it is with this in mind, I am awarding Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 the bronze award.
Despite missing the mark in other modes, MW3 brings Multiplayer one step closer to its former glory.

Modern Warfare III does even less this year to shake up the multiplayer formula, but mechanically it's the same finely honed beast that sets the bar for fast-paced multiplayer shooters
Even with an embarrassingly bad single-player Campaign, the Multiplayer and Zombies experiences are enough to cement this game as one of the franchise's greats.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III (2023)'s campaign is comically bad, its Zombies mode is zonked and its multiplayer just kind of sucks.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 covers a lot. When we try to do this, there are things that turn out better and things that turn out worse, and that's exactly what happened. The fact that the experience is annual doesn't help smooth out the edges, although, on the other hand, it helps certain things be already half-baked. As always, and without anyone asking me, I would recommend that Activision consider one of these options: either leave it as a continuous game, like Fortnite, or dedicate a couple of years between each release.
