Dragon's Dogma 2 is the work that Hideaki Itsuno would have liked to crown twelve years ago, but without the proper means and finances, he never managed to complete. The title presents itself as an action RPG certainly not without flaws, many of which lie in the optimisation of the title due to the perhaps improper use of a graphics engine not designed for an open world. The real strength of Dragon's Dogma 2, however, lies in its portrayal of a world as vast as it is alive and full of adventures to be experienced, thanks also to a revolutionary AI present in very few other productions.

Dragon's Dogma 2 almost passed with honors, but misses the mark with unnecessary and superfluous in-game items for real money. Graphically the game is usually beautiful, but there is still some work to be done here, just like with the sound and some controls? Is it a cult classic or not? I don't dare say that yet, but the game does a lot right, but also a number of things not. Time will tell whether Capcom will address the concerns that have been going back and forth across the web or not. Does the game have a decent replay value? Strangely enough, there is always something to discover and, as with other open world games, new things are discovered by gamers years and sometimes hundreds of hours later.

When I first started playing, I thought for sure I had a game-of-the-year candidate in my hands. If Dragons Dogma 2 wasn’t such an unbalanced mess, it would be one of the best games released this year. The good news is, Dragons’s Dogma 2 can be fixed. We shouldn’t have to wait or hope for it to be fixed in the first place, but Capcom could certainly address the issue in an update. I sincerely hope they do, because Dragon’s Dogma 2 is begging to be a great game, the awful lack of scaling is the only thing standing its way.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is exactly what I wanted; an updated sequel that still hold true to what made the first game so beloved. While it may not be perfect with its lack luster visuals and performance, it more than makes up for in deep gameplay and addicting exploration. The Pawn system still remains one of the coolest party systems in an RPG, and I love the dynamic feel of them. This is absolutely a game of the year contender and may be my personal game of the year already.

In the grand scheme of things, Capcom has delivered a sequel to make Dragon’s Dogma fans happy and wishing for more, but this isn’t a massive upgrade. Rather, it’s a modernization of the overall concept as the highs and lows of the first game mirror the sequel. If you can weather the storm that is Dragon’s Dogma 2, you might come out as one of the players who consider this one of the best RPG experiences they’ve ever played, or simply the worst.

While it retains some of the flaws of the first game and is far from satisfying story-wise, it is a unique experience in terms of adventure with an open world that is fun to explore. Struggling to beat dragons in a sandpit has never been so enjoyable.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is a great and fun adventure that even after finishing it, players can enjoy exploring the world for a very long time. PC version has some technical issues, but the compelling story and great gameplay still lead to an enjoyable experience.

While there's clearly a fantastic and unique game here, heavy PC performance issues make it difficult to enjoy it fully at this point in time.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is such a profoundly strange and inventive game at so many turns that its occasional stumbles are largely forgivable. For one, there are a few too many side quests that leave you stuck in town, some of which lean on woefully underbaked stealth sequences. The technical performance is also far from perfect, with unsteady framerates and clear graphical errors popping up frequently. In total, though, these come across as the drawbacks of a game whose reach exceeds its grasp, which is better by far than a game with no reach at all.

A real sense of wonder and adventure, where you have to figure things out for yourself rather than being spoon-fed. It lacks polish in many of its aspects but makes up for it in spirit and confidence.

Ultimately, Dragon's Dogma 2 is an odd combination between Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Tears of the Kingdom that scratches a very unique itch. It might not be for everyone, but it's certainly for someone, and it'll be exciting to see what kind of DLC Capcom have planned for it.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the best video game adventure I’ve experienced since Elden Ring, a far more approachable open-world game that has no doubt colored how players perceive this year’s big fantasy RPG. (It certainly did for me.) But like another FromSoftware game, the original Demon’s Souls, I found that once I had accepted Dragon’s Dogma 2’s peculiarities and deciphered what it was asking of me, I fell deeply in love. Dragon’s Dogma 2 awakens those old feelings of learning to overcome my expectations of what a game should be, then discovering new types of experiences along the way. That’s the best kind of journey.

Dragon's Dogma 2 offers an experience with both dated and innovative elements. Some controversial choices, such as those on saves and fast travel, clash with modern standards, but in terms of gameplay and artificial intelligence it is one of the best titles of recent years. The story, on the other hand, remains rather anonymous and unmemorable, but if you are looking for a challenging game that will surprise you between exploration and creativity, then you need look no further.

Overall, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a superb entry from Capcom that players have to contend with on two fronts. On one hand, the combat and gameplay experience is top-notch. Exploration is encouraged, the world is intriguing, and the sense of discovery is just phenomenal. There aren’t a lot of games that can successfully do this, and Dragon’s Dogma 2 does it effortlessly, and in spades. On the other hand, and equally as important, is if you, as a player, can contend and deal with its frustrating and unapologetically “old-school” mechanics. With games in this day and age focusing more and more on hand-holding and with some respecting your time more, there are some features in Capcom’s latest that will really grind your gears. How much are you willing to sacrifice to deal with them?

Dragon's Dogma 2 is a masterclass in open-world innovation, a game that strives to truly shake up the genre and prove that there's plenty left still to say. Its gorgeous environments, coupled with its varied and exhilarating combat, rewarding exploration, and richly detailed worldbuilding, make for a truly engrossing experience backed by emergent gameplay that makes it feel as if absolutely anything could happen. Despite some minor shortcomings, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a remarkable game, one clearly made with so much love, passion, and reverence for the original that it makes for a wonderfully special experience unlike anything else.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an amazing experience if you have the patience to deal with its jank and demanding immersion aspects, it holds your hand more than the original does, but its large world, plethora of combat options, and overbearing pawn system may still be a bit much for some players. Performance issues do harm this title, and the rather mediocre story certainly didn’t keep me around. The moment-to-moment gameplay on the other hand certainly still had me climbing on the back of monsters and polishing off side quests long after the 20-odd hour main story. I highly recommend Dragon’s Dogma 2 for gamers who want to get stuck into their adventure and focus on the violence and viscera of fighting mythical beasts, rather than picking attack options or dealing with run-of-the-mill combat.

Dragon’s Dogma 2's commitment to unscripted monster hunts, visceral combat, and interlinked systems guarantees a story lurking around every corner. By trading modern guardrails for know-it-all handmade companions, it entrusts you with the 'venture' in action-adventure. But weak quests and animation jitters hold it back from excellence.

The hours I spent in Dragon’s Dogma 2 were filled with spectacular highs and frustrating lows. When the game gets going, it really gets going, before suddenly coming to a screeching halt. While I still look back to the 5 days I spent with the game with fondness and admiration towards Itsunos’ craft, the game’s poor performance coupled with Capcom’s less-than-ideal monetization practices and the underwhelming endgame tarnished my experience to a degree. Let’s just hope that Dragon’s Dogma 2’s upcoming expansion rectifies its many shortcomings. May it prove to be another Dark Arisen.
