Dragon’s Dogma 2 is outwardly hostile to its audience, embracing everything that made the original such a hassle to enjoy. A game designed with the purpose of wasting a player’s time, which makes Capcom’s “time saver” microtransactions all the more sickening. It’s a glorified xerox that you will adore if you believe Dragon’s Dogma was literally perfect when it released in 2012 and absolutely none of the progress within games development in the past twelve years meant one fucking thing. Indeed, if your idea of a good time is having a terrible time, you’ll love this malignant resurrection of ideas and implementations that should have stayed long dead.

While there's clearly a fantastic and unique game here, heavy PC performance issues make it difficult to enjoy it fully at this point in time.

Dragon's Dogma 2 may not be for everyone, but if you want a fantasy role-playing game with all the thrills and excitement (and caveats) that make you want to better yourself and get immersed in, sink your teeth into this monster mash. Though if you just got off the first game and the Dark Arisen expansion pretty recently, you may want to wait until the game gets a discount. If you're fresh in, go for it with dragonfire-tempered expectations.

In a lot of ways, there’s a great game buried under the surface of Dragon’s Dogma 2. All of the components should work together. I’ve never played a game I was so frustrated with, but equally wanted to keep playing. For someone out there, I can guarantee this will be their favorite game ever. I’m sure it checks a lot of boxes for a lot of people looking for something different. I was looking for something different too, but I just feel like there was too much in the way for me to truly enjoy it. I’m still going to give it more time, I’m willing to be wrong, but for now I can’t help but feel disappointed.

In the grand scheme of things, Capcom has delivered a sequel to make Dragon’s Dogma fans happy and wishing for more, but this isn’t a massive upgrade. Rather, it’s a modernization of the overall concept as the highs and lows of the first game mirror the sequel. If you can weather the storm that is Dragon’s Dogma 2, you might come out as one of the players who consider this one of the best RPG experiences they’ve ever played, or simply the worst.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is an outstanding action RPG that has been plunged by the incompetence of the developers and the greed of those in charge of publishing at Capcom. At this point, I can in no way recommend the game unless you have top-of-the-line hardware, and even then you won't have a perfect experience. The presence of microtransactions is also a harmful decision and does not make me optimistic about the future of Capcom's games. Wait a minimum of six months for possible performance patches, which unfortunately at this point are not expected to appear anytime soon. If it weren't for the above problems, I would have my game of the year candidate here.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is an exhilarating, if occasionally frustrating, RPG full of dynamic player-driven moments.

For better and for worse, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a faithful reimagining of Hideaki Itsuno's flawed yet ambitious action-RPG. Those who rise to the challenge of meeting it on its own terms are suitably rewarded, but a deluge of trash mobs, restrictive fast travel, and endemic hardware issues will be a dealbreaker for many.

Like the original game, Dragon's Dogma 2 excels when you're out in its open world with your pawn allies – finding hidden caves and treasure, fighting monsters, and generally losing track of time. Also like the original, it falls short in terms of quest design, convenience, and general polish. A somewhat conservative sequel, then, but one that retains the charm of its predecessor.

An entertaining open world action role-player, with an interesting approach to AI-controlled companions, but which proves disappointingly similar to the 2012 original.

The hours I spent in Dragon’s Dogma 2 were filled with spectacular highs and frustrating lows. When the game gets going, it really gets going, before suddenly coming to a screeching halt. While I still look back to the 5 days I spent with the game with fondness and admiration towards Itsunos’ craft, the game’s poor performance coupled with Capcom’s less-than-ideal monetization practices and the underwhelming endgame tarnished my experience to a degree. Let’s just hope that Dragon’s Dogma 2’s upcoming expansion rectifies its many shortcomings. May it prove to be another Dark Arisen.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 will belong to a fairly specific audience. The game requires a significant amount of time to truly enjoy it. You can't simply play it for a moment because you'll feel like you haven't made any progress. At the same time, it's great that such a title appeared – in times when AAA titles are bland and safe a different approach is needed. We needed a game to demonstrate that things can be done differently.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 feels more like a remake or reimagining that improves on the original ideas than an actual sequel. Its plot does not continue the original plot, it makes the same narrative errors and its design bears little resemblance to something actually conceived in 2024. However, the experience remains interesting and fun at all times. The epic combat, exquisite art direction that delivers a true fantasy world, improved vocation and pawn system and the feeling of freedom and exploration, with dangers lurking around every corner, make this RPG a delight for fans of the genre.

With an innovative Pawn system by your side, delve into a so-so story in a deep world teeming with intrigue and mythical beasts. Challenge awaits at every turn, from the treacherous landscapes to the heart-pounding battles, where mastery of diverse vocations is key to victory. Though stained by visual monotony and performance woes, Dragon's Dogma 2 with its thrilling emergent gameplay and superb combat stands as a solid return to the series.

The sequel to the iconic Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen from 2012. doesn’t radically depart from its predecessor. Instead of revolutionary changes, it brings refinement across the board. It’s big, content-rich, and complex but very easy to jump into.

"Dragon's Dogma 2" is a triumphant return for the series, a sequel that exceeds expectations while pushing what an open-world RPG can achieve. It's a game that deserves to be experienced firsthand and savored versus rushing through it.

That's the most egregious example, but it happens quite often on a smaller scale: NPCs popping in randomly, guards attacking for seemingly no reason (especially frustrating after the last lap on their patrol drew no ire), the aforementioned instances of quests apparently not progressing. At times, Dragon's Dogma 2 feels like it came out shortly after its predecessor, an early- to mid-2010s game with a vibrant coat of paint. Sometimes it's endearing, but it really kills the game's incredible momentum when you're ripped from immersion without a clue as to why. Clunkiness aside, Dragon's Dogma 2 still manages to be a wonderful journey, and a true novelty among fantasy RPGs.

Overall, Dragon's Dogma II is a unique title that targets certain types of players. If you are interested in exploring large environments and frequent battles with repeated enemies, do not miss the experience of this title. Apart from this, the breadth of the customization system and the game's combat mechanics will keep you entertained for a long time.

Dragon's Dogma 2 is an experience that entertained and engaged us, perhaps one of the most original and satisfying RPGs you will play this year. However, the differences from the first episode are really minimal and the reduced fluidity on consoles disappointed us a bit. However, it should be specified that this is primarily designed to bring in a large number of new players.

A real sense of wonder and adventure, where you have to figure things out for yourself rather than being spoon-fed. It lacks polish in many of its aspects but makes up for it in spirit and confidence.
