Contra: Operation Galuga is a prime example of a game that feels fresh and retro at the same time.

Returning to the roots of the series, Contra Operation Galuga offers an entertaining experience for dedicated fans. However, it may lack innovation and fail to introduce fresh elements to captivate a broader audience.

Contra: Operation Galuga very quickly fell low. Not for its difficulty even arduous in Easy, because it is the DNA of the game. But for its lack of content and interest over time. The absence of online co'op and crossplay, which would have taken this game a certain step, is unacceptable, even more so when the positioning of the title for purchase is around 40 euros. Hardcore fans of the license and over scoring (not even enough to compare these stats with other players or have a world ranking, pfff) will sign at the bottom of the page. The others… not sure they read this whole contract.

Contra: Operation Galuga marks the return of Konami's classic, with a game that respects its legacy and offers a challenging experience but updated to the current times. a new opportunity for the saga and a neat, effective and fun game. It is full of details, winks and references to the franchise that denote the love and care with which it was developed, making it a must for every fan of 'The Big C'.

This is a very mediocre shooter that plays it too safe and lacks the charm of the originals. There are far better options out there like Blazing Chrome or Gunlord X that will scratch that itch far better and those are priced more fairly than Contra: Operation Galuga.

Contra: Operation Galuga, though nothing new and has some story issues, is still a love letter to Contra fans just wanting to shoot stuff.

The soldiers of Contra: Operation Galuga have the right moves for this mission, but the steep cost, short length, and awkward perspectives lead to a less-than-perfect execution.

Although the remake went through the HD process and offered the old good gameplay with modern graphics, bonus perks, new characters and a challenge mode, but for that exorbitant price, the player would expect more than just 8 levels and around three hours of gameplay.

A run and gun in which there is no shortage of tributes and nods but that does not waste the opportunity to build around that pure and crystalline subgenre that has its two main pillars in its name.

Contra: Operation Galuga is a fun title that can be a good direction for the franchise going forward, keeping the best parts of what it has to offer to the genre. Though it plays too safe and doesn't bring many novelties, I believe it to be what we need after years without something we could call at least decent. Unfortunately, the audiovisual presentation significantly hinders the final quality and its price isn't justified by the content it offers.

I'm so glad Konami are in the business of publishing good video games again. Entrusting the Contra franchise to WayForward for Operation Galuga was an incredibly smart decision, resulting in a thoroughly replayable and enriching return to the grandfather of the run-'n'-gun franchise. There is so much fun to be had learning levels, dying and grinding it out as you become familiar with level design patterns and weapon skills. Challenge levels are also fantastic gauntlets that'll make any seasoned Contra player sweat. Though the story is neither here nor there and the HUD driving it is a bit barebones, none of that gets in the way of the romping and stomping good time you'll have fighting for liberty and taking it to the alien threat once more. Contra is back.

Though the stages are much longer than their original forms, sometimes clocking in at around 15 minutes, playing through Story Mode only takes a couple of hours. Still, Contra: Operation Galuga packs a whole lot of action into those hours. When you add the more flexible Arcade Mode and difficult Challenge Mode, Operation Galuga is an admirable modernized reimagining of one of the most influential games of the late '80s.

Many pretenders and contenders have attempted to lay claim to Contra's run-and-gun throne over the years, with some glowingly successful and others failing abysmally, but Contra: Operation Galuga largely preserves its legacy with this faithful recreation of the much-loved 1980s classic. While Operation Galuga won't offer fans anything shocking or out of the ordinary, it's still a pleasing upgrade they'll be clamouring for. There's plenty in here to relish, and it's not bloated with new features and ideas that could otherwise jeopardize this renewed relic. Yes, more could've been done to reinvent the classic gameplay, but one shouldn't fix what isn't broken, and so Operation Galuga is a successful if formulaic return for one of gaming's most hardcore franchises.

Galuga may not live up to those first two NES/Arcade titles by a long shot, but the fact it manages to be just a bit better than Contra III and Hard Corps for me more than makes it worthy of being part of the 2D lineage.

Contra: Operation Galuga is a hard game. It's a good reinterpretation of an eternal classic but it has severe errors in execution. It's possible to see a soul and heart in the development, but it's also obvious that some adjustments were necessary (I myself was stuck in a bug that put me off screen, quickly eliminating my lives).

A new score and weapon mechanic compliments Contra: Operation Galuga’s fun gameplay, but they can’t cover for levels that feel poorly paced and uninteresting enemy design.

While it never transcends its own limitations and fumbles, Operation Galuga is a solid entry into the Contra franchise that is fun enough to play on its own merits.

Konami and WayForward bring us Contra: Operation Galuga, a new installment of the franchise that reimagines the original game from 1987, with situations that will remind us of the classic Contras and other novelties such as new weapons, the use of characters with different abilities, or advantages equippable which gives a new depth to the gameplay. The action is guaranteed, although at times it will be confusing due to excess effects and the artistic section is left to the player's taste, but it is undeniable that WayForward has found the perfect balance between accessible gameplay for new players and a challenge for veterans, and What is certain is that everyone will have fun equally.

I loved Contra: Operation Galuga. The run-and-gun gameplay is perfect, and all the new levels, characters, modes, and gameplay additions add lots of depth. I just wish there were some options with the graphics. And I wish there was online co-op in addition to the classic couch co-op. But what’s here is great. I hope WayForward makes a Contra: Operation Galuga sequel, or maybe gives Super C similar treatment in the near future.
