SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered Reviews
The complex combat system and menus are off-putting, the visual "upgrades" are lacking, and yet I still found myself coming back to see what's next. Saga Frontier 2 Remastered is a tough recommendation for those unfamiliar with the series, but its concept and storytelling method have undeniable appeal. If you can push through its flaws and steep learning curve, and perhaps partake in a little external reading, there's a solid game beneath its flaws.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered lets the best parts of the original game shine, while sanding out some of the rough edges that can detract from the player experience. The story shines as one of the best ones in the franchise, and the addition of new types of combat keeps things feeling pretty fresh. This is a full featured remaster, and I hope we continue to see the SaGa series get this kind of love and care from Square Enix; it deserves it.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is a solid port of a great JRPG from more than two decades ago. It keeps what was special about the original - the story and the characters - and adds to it with new plot elements. While we weren't in love with the combat mechanics or the exploration puzzles, they don't get in the way of a great story. Just like we don't love everything about our family, we could overlook the game's shortcomings to focus on what made it memorable.
This might not crack the top of my SaGa list, but it’s still a worthy entry in my favorite cult RPG series. Frankly though, I’m glad I waited for the remaster to try it.
SaGa Frontier 2 was ahead of its time. Though not everyone will feel the love with this remaster considering its notorious difficulty, SaGa Frontier 2 maintains a special place in the genre for its unique combat, storytelling, and incredible art style. It's just a shame it can be such a brutally difficult game.
25 years have passed since the release of this JRPG by Square, which proves, however, that it still has something to give thanks to an intriguing combat system, a 'dual-track' story, and restorations and enhancements that include new game modes, novel narrative elements, and streamlined gameplay that is very enjoyable to play.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered improves nearly everything that could have been improved; it's a worthwhile experience for fans of the original and newcomers alike.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered completes the Frontier series of remasters onto modern platforms, but beyond sharing its namesake and a few other nods and easter
I’m not sure why Square Enix has decided to become so prolific with the SaGa property. Three games in a single 12-month timespan is the most ambitious release schedule we’ve ever seen for it. But I’m also not complaining. SaGa has always been something of the forgotten child of Square Enix’s JRPG properties. With any luck, that’s changing now, and a whole bunch of people are going to realise just how good Frontier 2 here is for the first time.
Anchored in its beautiful visual style and the incredible story it sets out to tell, SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered delivers the best version of Akitoshi Kawazu's magnum opus. With several adjustments to its gameplay and technical aspects, the game does exactly what one would expect from a remaster, finally allowing all the qualities of the original title to shine as they always deserved.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is a dramatically improved iteration in almost all aspects. The only area where it disappoints is the sloppily applied AI filtering effect for the once-beautiful watercolour backgrounds. The wealth of new features, restored story content, and refined gameplay has finally made this classic PlayStation RPG all that it can be and more. The medieval German flavour and political intrigue with fantasy elements will make this a hit with fans of Game of Thrones, and gamers that felt disappointed by it when it came out will have renewed appreciation thanks to the gameplay enhancements.
I had a lovely time revisiting SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered as it's one of the most memorable RPGs from when I was a cub. At the same time, I forgot just how frustrating of a game it can be so please keep that in mind before giving it a go. ⚔️
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is a wonderful experience even in 2025, thanks to great combat, gorgeous visuals and some modern tweaks.
I really enjoyed what they did with the title, especially in the gameplay department. The new additions and improvements really managed to elevate the game, bringing its full potential to action.

For old-school fans, this is a welcome addition to the collection. It has everything you might remember, only better and more polished than before. For those curious about classic RPGs, Saga Frontier 2 represents an island in time that, for the first time, is more accessible than ever. If we can't have a full remake, then this is the next best thing. Especially if it's your first time with the saga.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered revitalizes a cult classic with stunning visual preservation and crucial quality-of-life upgrades. While its uneven gameplay systems show their age, the game's breathtaking watercolor aesthetic and ambitious dual-narrative structure remain uniquely captivating.
SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered brings back a PlayStation classic in a satisfying way, although the game is not recommended for those who are not open to an RPG that is unorthodox in its structure. Fans of the franchise, however, will be able to enjoy another vibrant and unique experience within the genre, especially if they had not explored the game in its original version.

SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered is a very competent update of a peculiar title from Square Enix. Although it still preserves a complexity that may alienate some potential new audiences, this characteristic is also an essential element of its charm, encouraging constant experimentation. Furthermore, the additions brought by the remaster, combined with the preservation of the original structure, make this edition the definitive way to experience this captivating RPG.

Fans of the SaGa series and players looking for something different from the more conventional JRPG offerings should give SaGa Frontier 2 Remastered a try. The remaster not only offers a chance to relive the past, but also to discover a classic that, while not for everyone, is a hidden treasure in the JRPG catalog of its era. It hasn't been translated into our language, but those with an intermediate level of English can still enjoy the experience.
