Tormented Souls 2 Reviews
Despite some nostalgic quirks that perhaps should have remained in the past, Tormented Souls 2 is an atmospheric callback to the iconic adventures that made contemporary horror gaming what it is.
Like its predecessor, Tormented Souls 2 still struggles with storytelling and character elements that just don't quite hit the mark. While it doesn't go as deep as I would like, above all else, it still serves its grandest purpose with all the passion you could ask for.
Tormented Souls II is the sequel the first game deserved. Dual Effect listened to criticism, polished what was lacking, and amplified what worked. The result is a survival horror game that respects the classic 90s style without feeling anachronistic, offers a real challenge without becoming constantly frustrating (well, almost), and looks spectacular on PC.

A beautifully crafted survival horror game that knowingly harkens back to the original Resident Evil, while adding in some sympathetically designed modern touches.
While remaining a continuation of the classic survival horror genre, Tormented Souls 2 manages to refine its deep and sincere homage to the great survival horror classics. At times, it wouldn't have hurt to see more of its own creation, but what it does offer is tasteful and high-quality enough to establish itself as a game capable of winning over even the most nostalgic fans.

Another old-school survival horror game, for better or worse. If you love fixed camera angles, pre-rendered backgrounds, limited saves, and constant tension, you can safely add half a point to the final rating. Technically, it's a step up from the previous installment, with excellent, detailed locations, atmospheric and crystal-clear sound, and responsive controls. Animations and poly-models aren't top-notch, but you can't have everything.

Tormented Souls 2 is a worthy successor to the original game, offering an improved experience for players. The sequel has significantly enhanced user-friendliness with its well-designed puzzles and intuitive hints. While the combat system and balance mechanics still present some challenges, players have the option to adjust the difficulty settings or wait for upcoming patches.

One question that might arise with this sequel is whether it's necessary to have played the first installment to enjoy this new title, and the answer is no. While some things might be easier to understand, this new adventure tells a story on its own, although if you're keen, I also recommend trying the first game. You won't be disappointed.

The puzzles are designed to resist brute-forcing, and hitting a wall is an intentional part of the experience. Dual Effect clearly did their homework, showcasing a deep understanding of classic survival horror. Their confidence in crafting intricate puzzles and captivating aesthetics makes them a worthy successor to the genre’s iconic classics.
The atmosphere of Tormented Souls 2 is unmistakable, and the game's old-school mechanics are sometimes enjoyable, more often frustrating. In other words, this is a very successful sequel.

The game has a clear goal - like the first part, it wants to bring back an honest horror atmosphere to fans of older survival horrors. And it succeeds in that, although you will also experience frustrating combat and lengthy running around.

Tormented Souls 2 is the kind of horror game you like to see from independent developers. As a clear passion project that is willing to push back against “best practices” to maintain the creative vision, it’s here for people who have fond memories of the formative years of survival horror, while also looking very modern. It’s by no means perfect, but the clear enthusiasm that went into it – and the fact that it’s so atmospheric – makes it compelling.
The past holds the keys for your future...
Tormented Souls 2 is a love letter to the survival horror genre that major companies abandoned years ago. Although many players won't be able to stand its deliberately old-school approach due to the clunky combat and complex puzzles, those who dare to give it a shot will find a game with excellent atmosphere that dares to challenge the player and be truly terrifying.

Tormented Souls 2 gets the visuals right, but loses its soul. The title is still a good classic survival horror experience, and despite significant technical advancements, the script falters, and the story degenerates into something more generic until its final minutes.

Tormented Souls 2 is a game that doesn't reinvent the formula, but rather improves on the existing roadmap. It's everything you'd expect from a survival horror experience; from the deep, layered exploration and creative puzzle-solving to the immersive atmosphere and natural horror, all working together like a machine in harmony.

Tormented Souls 2, like its predecessor, offers some solid survival horror action inspired by classics of the genre. Some might find dealing with or avoiding enemies a bit frustrating at times though, and a number of its puzzles could be considered a little too obtuse for comfort.
Dual Effect repeats its success and surpasses the original game's 2021 release with Tormented Souls 2.
