Perhaps part of the issue is that I played it on a Nintendo console, when I have the alternative sitting right there on the hard drive. On other platforms that don’t have a Mario Party, I can see this resonating more strongly. Unfortunately, though, I can’t see it being a particularly memorable experience for anyone in the long term.

LEGO Party is a solid take on the board game genre that rarely works outside of Mario Party itself. There’s a ton to unlock, plenty of LEGO charm, and interesting board themes. It’s definitely got a lot of luck to it, but if you can look past that, you’ll find a great game to play with friends and family here.

It’s disappointing that none of the licenses we’ve seen other in LEGO games make an appearance here, but the game more than makes up for it with the amount of fun and polish each minigame offers, and at $40, I’d definitely recommend this over most Mario Party games, and if DLC comes that does bring known IP to the mix, I just might partake.

LEGO Party is a fun party game that does a great job of combining Mario Party-style gameplay with the LEGO brand.

LEGO Party! stands tall as one of the best games ever in the competitive board game-style genre. Sure, it's derivative of Mario Party, but it also improves on many games in that series in a multitude of ways.

LEGO Party! is an amazingly fun party game for fans of all ages. The game is full of LEGO charm, from the set pieces to the minifigs to the in-game commentary from the game show hosts. There are some concerns regarding performance in minigames and a lack of LEGO properties being represented, but overall, this is a must-have for anyone looking to add to their LEGO collection!

All up, LEGO Party is a worthy contender to Mario Party; you’ll need to decide if its strengths and weaknesses appeal to you. With noticeable framerate drops during fly-throughs, even on PS5 Pro, I’m also a bit concerned about how this will actually play on a Switch.

LEGO Party! is certainly enjoyable, there’s no denying that; the huge range of mini games and mini figures encourage customisation, contrasted by the larger than life personality the title oozes. Sadly, the clear derivative gameplay hardly creates anything original, and that means LEGO Party! is left to lean heavily on its predecessors.

Undoubtedly one of the best family party games we've ever played, LEGO Party! is beautifully presented and an absolute riot to play. With game boards made entirely out of LEGO bricks and a suite of brilliant minigames, it gives Mario Party a good run for its money.

LEGO Party! mixes colourful boards, fun mini-games, and LEGO humour into a party game that works both online and on the couch. Customization and crossplay make it easy to enjoy with friends or family, and the chaos never feels stale. It’s light on boards and modes, and announcer lines repeat quickly, but the laughs and competition carry it through. If you’re after a party game that’s fast, funny, and family-friendly, this one delivers.

It might be completely based on Mario Party, but there are enough gameplay elements included in Lego Party to make it feel like an actual proper competitor, and not just a mere clone. To be fair, it actually borrowing a lot of elements from its famous source of inspiration actually made it stand out from the myriad of failed clones released over the past few decades, with just enough of the right innovations added to the mix.

For Lego’s first party game, Lego Party is a strong entry, with lots of unlockable minifigures, the ability to create your own, and fun, distinct boards to play on.

The variety of mini-games, the easy pick-up-and-play controls, and the all-ages appeal make this one a winner. If you’ve got friends or family to play with, LEGO Party is a brick-built blast.

After spending the past week jumping across platforms, battling it out on pirate ships, swinging through caverns and operating LEGO cranes, I couldn’t be more impressed. LEGO Party clicks into place perfectly — a new party favourite in my household.

LEGO Party is pretty darn good. Sadly, there are some shortcomings that will probably hold LEGO Party back from definitively stealing market share from the competition, but I am positive that there will be plenty of people that prefer LEGO Party. LEGO Party is a bonafide competitor to the Mario Party series. For a first entry, LEGO Party is a delightful surprise and has the foundations needed to become a stalwart in the party scene. With a little more variety with boards, mini-games and Lego themes, LEGO Party could prove to be a force to be reckoned with in the future. When you combine the quality and the price point, as well as being available everywhere with cross platform play LEGO Party is sure to cause disruption in the genre.
