Despite some puzzling omissions and a lackluster story mode, Avatar Legends is a fighting game fan's dream, with a diverse roster, an incredibly flexible combat system that rewards precision and creativity, and some of the coolest looking combos around.

For a long time, Avatar has felt like a poisoned chalice when it comes to video games, but Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game proves that it’s been a perfect fit all along. Even with it being on the smaller side, the fantastic and very Avatar combat mechanics, gorgeous style, and love for the series make it a fighter that’s going to be very hard to top.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a great fighting game that has something for long-time fans of the Avatar franchise and fans of more hardcore fighting games. It isn't always putting its best foot forward in some respects, but that doesn't stop the core experience from being enjoyable.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a decent fighter, but it isn't going to transform the Avatar franchise into a gaming powerhouse. The fighting can be fun, but the roster is a mixed bag, the story a bit weak, and there's currently no ranked mode in multiplayer. Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a good game, but it isn't a top tier fighting game.

If you love classic 1v1 fighting games, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is an experience you'll constantly find rewarding too, representing a great return-to-form in a genre that often too easily loses its way.

But unless you’re really committed to mastering all of the mechanics here, it feels difficult to fully recommend in its current state – not because it’s a bad game, but it just lacks the polish and features you’d expect from a more fleshed out product.

The quest for the perfect Avatar: The Last Airbender video game continues, as none of the previous attempts met the desired standard, but at least this one made a valiant effort. It remains to be seen whether competitive players will embrace it and if it will eventually become a mainstream esport.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is not just a good, well, fighting game, it's the best Avatar game to be released. With options for newcomers to acclimate themselves and plenty of depth for experienced players, the only significant downside is the underwhelming story mode.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game from developer Gameplay Group is an impressive fighting game that has been visually translated from the show in a 1:1 manner. The visuals are stunning enough, as are the easy-to-pick-up-and-go controls, to help mask the minor imbalances in the fighting game. It’s a fun game that will please fans of the IP.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has done wonders for the franchise that created Aang. Its deep core mechanics intensify the presence with a good starting lineup to boot thanks to the Support system. While it stays the course of being a great fighting game in the making, a select few could possibly get lost in the gusts of complexity. It does get fun through the grind aspect. For what it’s worth, Avatar Legends has a solid start, but for core fans – this bending bashing might be a bit harder to take on.

I've waited a long time for an Avatar game that truly does the series justice, and Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game comes closer than any before it. From its gorgeous hand-drawn visuals and faithful character designs to its inventive Flow mechanic, it's clear the developers have a deep appreciation for the source material. Add in smooth online play and a roster that captures the spirit of each character, and you have not only one of the best Avatar games ever made, but also a fighting game that's well worth your time.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a great fighting game and incredibly fun. Its combat system is excellent, the cast is brimming with personality, and the faithful adaptation of the cartoon universe is commendable. However, it's undeniable that its overly hardcore approach limits its appeal.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game is a very solid fighting game wrapped in a somewhat underwhelming package. For players looking for a fighter with distinct characters, creative mechanics, and plenty of depth to explore, there's a lot to enjoy. However, for more casual fans of the franchise or anyone looking for substantial content outside of competitive play, the experience can feel bare-bones, and the included story mode often feels half-baked. This is ultimately a game made for fighting game fans who also love Avatar, and those who fall into that category should find plenty to appreciate.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game proves that the bending elements and fighting games were made for each other, delivering refined combat that respects both the source material and the high expectations of genre enthusiasts. However, the title stumbles on its own limitations, presenting a merely perfunctory narrative, a modest core cast, inconsistent art style, and single-player content that loses momentum too quickly. Nevertheless, there is an excellent foundation here, and it remains to be seen whether future content will allow the game to reach its true Avatar State.
