Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy Reviews
Although Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy doesn't tell the story of Amicia and Hugo, it manages to offer a different perspective to the player. Not only are the graphics impressive, but also the combat, setting, and puzzles which, while becoming tiresome at times, prove to be intelligent and well-developed. This is, without a doubt, one of the best titles of the year.

Resonance is a labyrinth in every sense. Undeniably gorgeous, but far too willing to lead you in circles through one breathtaking ruin after another, deploying fun set pieces along a journey that spends a bit too long in the maze before it finds its way forward.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy leans more heavily into action in a series known for its stealth. It's the change we didn't know we needed. It offers a charming world, clever puzzles, fluid combat, and a story packed with mystery, tragedy, and even horror.

A visually stunning and emotionally intense action-adventure, held back by shallow combat, linear exploration and repetitive stealth.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy successfully evolves the series into a more action-oriented adventure without losing its emotional core. Sofia is a compelling protagonist, the presentation is gorgeous, and the mix of exploration, puzzles, stealth, and combat works very well, even if some puzzles become repetitive and a few technical issues occasionally break the immersion.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is more than a spinoff; it’s reinventing the conventions and removes the classic stealth gameplay to introduce its first interesting combat system. A system that could be more fleshed out but this doesn’t take away that the story, breathtaking environments, and excellent sound design pave the way for something fresh that still feels like the quality of game we’ve come to expect from Asobo Studio. It’s Plague Tale’s most action-packed adventure set in mystery and mythology. A great game to pick up whether or not you’ve played the others before, it stands on its own!
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy swaps rats for swords and myth, and the trade pays off. The story and setting carry real weight, while combat and progression do their job without stealing the spotlight.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy leans more toward a classic action-adventure game, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but as a result, the title loses some of the originality for which the series has always been so highly praised. The storytelling is good, and Sophia proves herself to be a strong protagonist. The combat system is entertaining, but you’ll quickly grasp its basic mechanics, which don’t change much by the end of the game. In contrast, the puzzles and the stunning locations are the game’s greatest features. It’s just a shame that this audiovisual delight is somewhat marred by subpar optimization on the PlayStation 5 Pro. If you’re a fan of the series, don’t miss this game. But be prepared for the fact that, compared to the rest of the series, the game has become a bit run-of-the-mill.

“Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy successfully reinvents the formula with a more dynamic combat system, engaging puzzles and a captivating Greek mythology setting, delivering a refreshing adventure that maintains Asobo Studio’s high standards.”

The Greek mythology premise was what first drew me into Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy, along with its notable Uncharted and Tomb Raider vibes. I’d never played the original games, so Resonance gave me a pretty good place to start — and I’m glad I did. This game is the perfect introduction to the series and struck all the right chords.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is an entertaining enough prequel to A Plague Tale; I just wish it had a bit more substance to match the style it exudes.
Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a brilliant pivot for the series, swapping the iconic rat swarms and stealth-survival for fluid action-packed combat through an ancient (yet absolutely gorgeous) locale. Sure, the heavy reliance on light-reflection mechanics can feel a little tiresome, but the gripping narrative, breathtaking audio-visual presentation, and genuinely unsettling atmosphere more than make up for it, ensuring that Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy delivers a pulse-pounding, unforgettable journey that proves that this world is just as captivating even when the rats are left behind.
A smart combat system and an unforgettable protagonist elevate this pirate adventure above its influences.

In conclusion, this new chapter in the Asobo saga represents a bold and, in our opinion, highly successful experiment. The desire to overturn (but not "deface") the established formula by replacing Amicia's cunning stealth with Sophia's bold melee combat is an excellent idea that, despite a certain general basicity, works exceedingly well. Nonetheless, the exquisite art direction, a gripping narrative enriched by the dual mythological timeline, and a first-rate puzzle and sound design component make this a little gem absolutely recommended for all fans of action-adventure exploration.

With *Resonance*, the series takes a surprising new direction. This time, Sophia takes centre stage and leads you on an adventure that is very different from the previous two instalments. The famous stealth mechanics and controlling swarms of rats give way to a focus on ingenious puzzles and exploring impressive environments. Using the Minoan Sphere and the sunlight streaming in, you cleverly solve a series of successive puzzles, giving the gameplay a distinct Tomb Raider vibe. Although this change of direction takes some getting used to for those expecting a traditional Plague Tale, it does nothing to detract from the quality. The audio is superb, the locations on the island are breathtaking, and the mystery surrounding the Macula remains palpable in the background. Anyone open to this new approach will be treated to a compelling and atmospheric adventure that is absolutely worth experiencing.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy may not be the next big step that A Plague Tale: Requiem was. It is, however, a beautiful, emotional, and particularly endearing side story.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes bold risks by shifting from stealth to melee combat, and while the ancient civilization storyline pays off, Sophia's underdeveloped arc and repetitive combat keep this prequel from matching the heights of Innocence and Requiem.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy carries forward the spirit of the series with a strong atmosphere and a compelling adventure, but its new gameplay direction and different approach to mechanics don’t quite reach the level of its predecessors. Even so, it remains a quality spin‑off with enough ideas of its own to justify its existence.

Asobo Studio has done it mission accomplished. After Innocence and Requiem, the development team realized that the series needed a major overhaul, especially in terms of gameplay. In our opinion, not only have the developers succeeded in this endeavor, but we’re confident that this third installment will captivate not only fans of the series but also those experiencing A Plague Tale for the first time. A graphical gem, masterful audio, a deep story, a dynamic combat system, and standard replay value. There are a few minor flaws (enemy AI, environmental interaction, and frame rate drops) that, however, do not detract from the overall quality of the game. A must-play title, no ifs, ands, or buts… one of the best action-adventure games of the year.

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy takes the series in a completely new direction by looking to the past and approaching its world from a different perspective. While it successfully explores the mysteries and mythology of Crete, its dynamic melee combat mechanics deliver a highly satisfying experience. Serving as a strong entry point for players unfamiliar with the series, the game occasionally loses its sense of realism due to certain technical issues.
