Megadimension Neptunia VII shows that Compile Heart understands how to use the hardware to make their games feel faster and play better but is again let down by the same flaws the series has had for the last few games.

In the end, Megadimension Neptunia VII can certainly be classified as the biggest and most competent Neptunia game to date, which may or may not sound as impressive depending how much of a fan you are.

It stumbles in a fair few places, and it likely won't sway those who aren't fond of the basic idea of the franchise. Overall, however, 'Neptunia VII' represents a strong step forward in a franchise that seemed all too content to stand in place. While I wish it went further with its parody than it ever really does, a sequel that doubles down on the good ideas introduced here could potentially lead to something great.

The most competent game in the series so far and there is definitely some sort of addictive brain potion mixed into the battle system. The plot is the best yet but there are unfortunately a few annoying additions which really should have been left out.

Hyperdimension Neptunia VII is an acceptable RPG, but may be a disappointment for series diehards looking for true change, or newcomers to the franchise. Any other way, the game fully realizes it's ambitions on top of it's other minute flaws, and cements a rich and non-exasperating formula for players who know what to expect.

Megadimension Neptunia VII's combat system is nothing really ground-breaking. There are a number of fun and interesting battle mechanics to play around with, but it takes a good deal of time before they're all really needed. However Neptunia title will obviously be welcomed by its fans, and it makes a nice entry point for those wanting to get into the series with it's fun and amusing plot, along with fantastic character development.

This one is for fans only; and good on Compile Heart and Idea Factory for that. So to the Nep-heads who have enjoyed the series' take on the console wars and its obsession with pudding and boobs: I can't think of a reason why you shouldn't pick this one up. To everyone else, there's probably a better RPG you should spend your time and money on.

Megadimension Neptunia VII is a mixed bag, with great combat elements and parody sadly shuffled together with overly padded plot, repetitive boss fights, and boring story presentation. All of the bad could be overlooked with how well it analyzes and tears down the low points of gaming culture, but then it sinks itself just as low with copious and pointless bewbage.

The story is typical Neptunia fluff, and if you liked previous adventures in this series, it’s enjoyable. It’s just a shame you can’t skip the gameplay parts and watch the story sequences by themselves.

Megadimension Neptunia VII on Switch is perfect to play through if you haven’t already experienced this entry. The narrative holds up, but the same can’t be said for the dungeon design. The state of the Switch port is lacking modern quality-of-life updates, which does hurt the user experience, but the battle system makes it a decent RPG experience on the go.

Megadimension Neptunia VII stumbles into the same traps that many of its peers have fallen into before, serving up lazy quests and a questionable amount of fan service. Fortunately, it makes up for these shortcomings with boundless energy and endearing characters who provide an enjoyable and light-hearted trip through alternate dimensions. While the game may have benefitted from enhancing some of its mechanics, it's by no means a bad RPG experience – just one that we feel like we've had many times before.

Should you buy Megadimension Neptunia VII? Well, that depends on a few major factors. Can you stomach shamelessly pervy leerings at the bodies of the many females featured in the story? Are you okay with playing a poorly-optimized game that's not very graphically impressive to begin with? If yes, then you just may be surprised at the quality of the gameplay that lies at the heart of this RPG. Despite its shortcomings, Megadimension Neptunia VII can be a fun game to play, and though there are plenty of better RPG's to pick up on the eShop today, it's impossible to deny the niche value being offered here. We'd lightly recommend this one, but with the important caveat that this is the kind of game that's ideal fodder for buying on a big sale in the future.

It really is a shame. Megadimension Neptunia VII is legitimately one of my favorite RPGs of all time, but the issues in the PC version make it a chore to play. Again, if you own a PS4, it's definitely worth playing on that system. If not, ask yourself what you're willing to go through to see cute girls based on video game consoles have an adventure

Megadimension Neptunia VII isn't at all mega, but it is quite possibly the best playing entry in the series yet. Whilst that's a prospect that is sure to bring a smile to the faces of those fond of Nep Nep, it's likely to set no one else's world on fire

Megadimension Neptunia VII is a wonderful game, but, as it stands, the Switch version is far from being ideal. If this is your only avenue to Gameindustri and you really want to get into the series, the game’s still playable. However, if you have the luxury of picking and choosing, then I’d pick this one up on PC or PS4. Or, better yet, just get VIIR.

If you already like the Neptunia series, this game is for you... as long as your PC is up to snuff. If you aren't a fan, though, there's little new here to justify giving this latest title a chance.

Megadimension Neptunia VII is a continuation of a series without much change, which in this case weighs it down. Each game fundamentally is too similar to every other one to the point where when a new one comes out, there is only so much to look at in new ways, and previous flaws can only be forgiven for so long. In a game that relies very heavily on humour, it sacrifices much in the way of narrative and ultimately the source material for the comedy elements has worn too thin.

For the devoted fans of the Neptunia series, this is definitely a title worth picking up. It's still the same reference overdosed, trope obsessed, fanservice heavy RPG series it's always been, and for some, that's great. The new characters are decently charming, and the story is substantially longer than some of the recent Neptunia spin-offs. If cute girls based off of the gaming industry's biggest titans (and has-beens) isn't your thing, though, there are other, better, RPGs worth your time.

There was hope that the Neptunia series would finally fulfill its potential on PlayStation 4, but sadly that hasn't happened. Good ideas are still tarnished by poor execution and disgusting attempts at fan service.
