Romancing SaGa 2 actually was quite fun. At the very least, it was nice to see an older game re-emerge on a next generation console and still be more fun than a hindrance. It certainly contains some classic structure, some unique gameplay, tough-as-nails enemies and some linear restriction to keep it all grounded back in 1993.

Underneath a relatively simplistic JRPG design lies a unique and smart game that was far ahead of its time when it first released in 1993. Romancing SaGa 2 eschews the typical story of a hero saving the world in order to tell the tale of an entire empire across several generations.

If you're willing to put up with a few gameplay flaws, uneven game balancing, and an unsightly user interface, this is one RPG that belongs in your collection.

The Romancing SaGa 2's comeback is a nice thing for the rpgs lovers, the nostalgics and the newcomers. But the absence of new features, improved graphics, sounds or effects make it feels exactly like the mobile phone version.

This is one of the more unheralded Super Nintendo JRPGs, but the update is of a high quality, and while I don't think it's a classic example of the genre by any means, it is still a very enjoyable game. A clean, enjoyable combat system, plenty of enemies to fight, and a bit of exploration and puzzle solving on the side; this is the kind of classic JRPG experience that I'll never get tired of.

A great classic JRPG that has found new home on the current generation consoles. It is a nice little gem but with some short flaws that haven't aged well with time.

Despite a few problems, Romancing SaGa 2 is a worthy experience, being a very different game from what we are used to see in the genre. It's a good option for fans of the genre that want something distinct from the tired cliches that we see around.

Romancing SaGa II is not without its issues, but it's an entertaining title overall.

Romancing SaGa 2 has a certain old school charm that invites any old school RPG fan to give it a shot. I don't think it's as polished as Square Enix's other titles that came out during this '90s era, but it's something worth investing in if you want a different take on the standard RPG formula. It's not for everybody, but Romancing SaGa has enough good qualities to give it a go if you've never played it before.

… the game does an excellent job in making an old game look good.

Romancing Saga 2 is a game very much trapped in the early 90s, while it’s great to see a title translated into English after all this time, it’s a shame that it’s one that offers very little fun or entertainment.

RS2 has some interesting ideas, but ultimately I feel them poorly explained.

Romancing SaGa 2 is an alluring blend of esoteric and impenetrable that is as vexing as it is fascinating.

With Rompancin SaGa 2, Square Enix allows us to rediscover a game from a not well-known series in these parts of the world. It offers a certain originality and some principles not very seen in the a japanese role-playing game, for example an almost total freedom, but, in the other hand, it makes the game not be accessible and not easy, addressing the game to the hardcore gamers. Both complete and complex, we would however have preferered the game being more than just a transposition from the smartphone version sold at a higher price.

Being a port of an 25 year old title, Romancing SaGa 2 gives a promising look back at how RPGs have grown over the years. With the game's story spanning generations of characters and a fairly decent story, Romancing SaGa 2 is worth the price, but try not to get too attached to your main character because you will die, a lot.

This review is of the PlayStation 4 version of Romancing SaGa 2, and this is something of a negative in the grand scheme. This new remaster is hitting almost every possible platform and this may not be the best option. While the upgraded graphics look a great deal better, they really don't require an HD TV and it feels like this would fit better on Nintendo Switch or Vita. Despite that, there is a great and original experience here, one that hardcore old school RPG fans may have completely missed out on. It may not be for everyone but this is a perfect opportunity to try a classic and unique Japanese experience.

In its systems and its storytelling, Romancing SaGa 2 is still a unique RPG -- one that genre enthusiasts may want to experience for its unorthodox methods alone. For all of its strange intricacies, though, this is a flawed fantasy adventure, hindered by potentially significant balancing issues and a horrible looking user interface. As a curiosity, Romancing SaGa 2 is worth looking into, but a lot more could have been done to bring the overall package up to speed.

No one ask for Romancing Saga 2, but Square Enix brings it to life instead another more demanded games. The controls, the price and a straight Smartphone port makes us not recommend it

So if you are looking for a challenging JRPG, with plenty of replay value and an overall fantastic story, picking up this epic game you probably missed is a wise investment. Just be prepared for a death count to rival your Dark Souls score.

I was having a brilliant time with Romancing SaGa 2 before the glaring issues of the battle system came to light. Its non-linearity was ground breaking at the time and as a result, it certainly stands up even today. Even the soundtrack was hugely enjoyable. But those battle mechanics have ruined this game for me.
