Romancing SaGa 2 Reviews
Romancing SaGa 2 is a wonderful little game, hidden away from American audiences and after putting some time in the game, it is easy to see why it is beloved by its long time backers. It is as simple as things come, gameplay wise, but the story is complex beyond what could be expected for that gaming era, with twists and turns based on your choices and interactions. The remastering is not always perfect, but it mixes the old and new together well.
In many ways Romancing SaGa 3 shows its age, but it remains one of the most fascinating JRPGs of the 1990s. This new edition allows us to rediscover it in the best way.

Overall Romancing SaGa 2 was a great experience on the Switch. The console is a nice home for this retro gem and a lot of people are going to enjoy playing it for the first time. I highly recommend checking it out if you're a fan of this genre.
Underneath a relatively simplistic JRPG design lies a unique and smart game that was far ahead of its time when it first released in 1993. Romancing SaGa 2 eschews the typical story of a hero saving the world in order to tell the tale of an entire empire across several generations.
This is one of the more unheralded Super Nintendo JRPGs, but the update is of a high quality, and while I don't think it's a classic example of the genre by any means, it is still a very enjoyable game. A clean, enjoyable combat system, plenty of enemies to fight, and a bit of exploration and puzzle solving on the side; this is the kind of classic JRPG experience that I'll never get tired of.
Every aspect of this game blends into one another quite nicely, creating an experience that any fan of the classic era is sure to appreciate.
Romancing SaGa 2 is a remarkable experience that, even after such a long time, still has creative ideas that make the experience feel all the more meaningful. It still shows its age in places, not least for the fact that many of the gameplay mechanics that whir beneath its pixel art exterior are never explained to the player. But, those looking for a classic packed with challenge will find much to enjoy.
I really enjoyed my time with Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven. It’s a solid RPG and a great remake that I think a lot of people should check out. I’m glad to see Square Enix try to diversify their RPG catalogue a little more beyond Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, and if you’ve been curious about the SaGa series, this entry would be a great one to jump into.
So if you are looking for a challenging JRPG, with plenty of replay value and an overall fantastic story, picking up this epic game you probably missed is a wise investment. Just be prepared for a death count to rival your Dark Souls score.
A welcome rerelease for this 1993 relic, Romancing SaGa 2 is endearing, interesting and difficult for better or worse.
Romancing SaGa 2 actually was quite fun. At the very least, it was nice to see an older game re-emerge on a next generation console and still be more fun than a hindrance. It certainly contains some classic structure, some unique gameplay, tough-as-nails enemies and some linear restriction to keep it all grounded back in 1993.
A great classic JRPG that has found new home on the current generation consoles. It is a nice little gem but with some short flaws that haven't aged well with time.
Romancing SaGa II is not without its issues, but it's an entertaining title overall.
Romancing SaGa 2 is really intriguing new JRPG. The combat system has a great sense of depth thanks to its distinctive take on levelling, the inclusion of formations and how the player is held accountable for each party member. The kingdom management aspects also provide a greater sense of player agency and helps set it apart from conventional role-playing games. Due to this design, the story and character development – including the dialogue throughout – aren't quite as refined as other Square Enix titles. Regardless, the entire concept has aged surprisingly well – even by modern standards.
Being a port of an 25 year old title, Romancing SaGa 2 gives a promising look back at how RPGs have grown over the years. With the game's story spanning generations of characters and a fairly decent story, Romancing SaGa 2 is worth the price, but try not to get too attached to your main character because you will die, a lot.
… the game does an excellent job in making an old game look good.
All in all, Romancing SaGa 2 is a decent RPG with some very interesting mechanics that were revolutionary for its time.
If you're willing to put up with a few gameplay flaws, uneven game balancing, and an unsightly user interface, this is one RPG that belongs in your collection.
Romancing SaGa 2 is an alluring blend of esoteric and impenetrable that is as vexing as it is fascinating.
Romancing Saga 2 is finally available in the English language. Game is demanding, often merciless and completely unbalanced. People who love old games will fall in love with it.
