For all its clunkiness, control problems and continued loading there is something at its core that fans of the series will find hard to not enjoy. This is driven by the early interactions with the iconic characters of the franchise and sets the game world of Gun Gale Online up to be a memorable one. If you’re a fan of Sword Art Online this could be for you but otherwise it might be worth switching out.

Developer Dimps have used their industry experience combined with the capabilities of Unreal Engine 4 to create what is arguably the best Sword Art Online game to date. Although a little bit grindy in the later half of the game, it does have an addicting shoot n loot gameplay loop that will keep you addicted for some time.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet can become boring quite fast due to its repetitive encounters and unevenly paced story, something that could have been easily avoided. The good news is SAO fans will find it a breath of fresh air, since Fatal Bullet plays and feels different than the previous games.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is more of a curious experiment for the series that attempts to take it into a new direction with some major glaring flaws.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet may have its problems, but it is a rather fun and unique JRPG shooter in its own right.

Despite the issues with balance, juvenile moments in the writing, and the occasional bug that suggested the ambition of the game slightly overextended its budget, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is the best video game entry in this particular franchise.

For me, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet was a great game that scratched that same "I want to blow things up and gain power" itch that Borderlands and PSO did for me, and while I wouldn't want anyone to pay full price for such a game, I'd highly recommend it to bored ARPG fans that catch it on sale and need something to get them through a lean gaming period.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is flawed, but succeeds at providing a thrilling MMO-esque experience offline.

While the game is a lot of fun, it is hard to shake the feeling that if it was a full MMO it would be better. The Co Op mode goes someway to fix this and thankfully there is plenty of content to keep fans of the genre and of the series occupied. Definitely worth playing if you want an anime inspired world to run around in for a long time.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is an atypical - but funny - RPG with a lot of TPS features, made by Dimps (also known as Dragon Ball Xenoverse developers).

Sword Art Online series changes its fantasy setting to futuristic post-apocalyptic world. Machine gun in place of sword can feel wierd at times, but at the end of the day it is freshness the fans have waited for.

Vastly improved graphics and the ability to play as a customer character make Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet an attractive game. Even though you swap swords, fantasy and magic for guns and an apocalyptic dystopian world, the combat system leaves a lot to be desired on console. It feels like it was made for PC and the assist mode just makes combat feel more cheap than engaging. Still a solid improvement over previous games, though and still worth a play!

It's still one for the fans, but this may be the best adaptation of the license yet.

Excepting its online shortcomings, however, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is easily the best game using the license yet. Everything feels more polished, and though the game's setting sacrifices the bright colors and exciting worlds that have been the saving graces of past titles, the gameplay and structure more than make up for it. Fans will enjoy the unique story and major character appearances, and those new to the world of SAO will inevitably find themselves losing hours to the grind without realizing it before late-game fatigue finally begins to set in. In that regard, Fatal Bullet does something that no other title in the series has done—making a game about a show about a video game finally, inexplicably, a decent game after all.

Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is probably the best project in the series over the past few years. It features nice combat mechanics and an interesting system for collecting loot and exploring dungeons. On the other hand, it lacks a good story and proper explanation of important game elements. Sadly, our final impression was spoiled.

For fans of the anime, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet is a great use of the license that brings some welcome changes to the series. There are still the recurring issues of pacing and a number of technical flaws that diminish the rest of the game's achievements, but this hopefully sets a new benchmark for the franchise going forward.

Fatal Bullet is a conservative game that could have take more advantage from the Sword Art Online universe. However, it is a great game and is suitable for those who love the anime.
