Extinction is a sword-slinging, monster-decapitating action game that does a decent job of getting the blood pumping and reflexes twitching. The eye-catching, anime-inspired art will even give you some nice scenery to do it all in. It just never rises to be much more than that, and all the while it's inviting comparisons to other games that do. Extinction lands in that awkward position where, yeah, it's usually fun - but you're not really missing anything incredible by giving it a pass.

I enjoyed the combat and thought the concept of Extinction was really decent, it just wasn't implemented correctly. Worth a play, but only if the price was a bit lower. If you're looking for a game that lets you take down massive enemy creatures, stick with the original. Or pick this up for a fun rental night or wait for a price drop.

Killing giant monsters in games is always fun, and Extinction has created a solid foundation for a great game. It’s just that what’s here isn’t much to justify its high price tag considering how much of an afterthought the campaign is and how all the other game-modes are practically identical.

It’s really a shame that Robot Entertainment created Orcs Must Die so many years ago, cause that would have been the perfect name for Extinction.

Annihilation of endless waves of big monsters is exciting. However missions, game modes and locations should be more diverse.

Some will relish the gruesome spectacle and challenge, but Execution manages to transform giant-slaying into something of a chore.

Extinction is solely based on a good idea, but fails to entertain due to the game structure and the algorithms for procedural content generation. The story in poorly narrated e feels out of focus during the missions.

I don't enjoy writing about bad games. I understand making games is incredibly difficult, and I'm not claiming I know how to do it. But this game should not have been released. Someone, somewhere along the line, should have made the call to cancel this game. There is nothing to be gained from playing Extinction. Don't bother at all.

Extinction offers up some awesome gameplay moments, but it also doesn't feature much variety in its campaign and other game modes, so the experience gets repetitive and stale faster than you'd like.

The potential is there. The action, especially against the giant Ravenii, can be pretty fun. However, the repetition and bland environments take away the potential enjoyment of Extinction.

Extinction is a rather unpretentious blend between Shadow of the Colossus, Assassin's Creed and God of War. There's some parkour action, some humans to rescue and lot of giant monsters to decapitate. The main quest is pretty thin, gameplay and story wise, and you'll end up enjoying much more the various and challenging secondary objectives of every mission.

In the end, perhaps it isn't so hard to imagine that a studio whose expertise is mostly technical consulting feels slightly void of inspiration and direction. Extinction has some fine enough ideas, but every aspect of its execution, from the narrative to the combat, feels generic and half-baked.

An enjoyable collection of mechanics that are somewhat let down by the repetitive nature inherent in the game itself. If you enjoy the first couple of levels then you could play for years but if you don't find it the most riveting thing ever it will probably lose you long before the campaign is done.

An exciting mix of genres and references that it's not capable of maintaining that excitement and becomes boring too soon.

While the premises were good enough, Extinction fails to take a few step further. Every giant slayed in the game feels exactly the same as the one you met before - and there is not much else to do in the game.

The actual giant ogre-slaying gameplay is a lot of fun, but it's not enough to carry an entire game on its shoulders. Repetitive gameplay and a boring story keep the game from being any fun beyond the first few hours.

Impressive ogre battles and challenging, hectic missions, but I just wish there was a bit more to Extinction.

If you are looking for a game that will give you an adrenalin rush by letting you fight a giant ogre, then you may come away satisfied from Extinction. When you are felling a Ravenii in slow motion, things can get real gratifying, you just do have to trudge through a ton of mediocre and repetitive elements to get there. Extinction's story and some repetitiveness do ultimately let the package down as a whole, but I am glad to see Iron Galaxy tried tackle a different idea outside of their comfort zone, even if it didn't pan out entirely.

Fighting giant monsters should never be as dull and formulaic as this cheap and nasty attempt to remind you other better games… and anime.

After playing my review copy of the game for an hour, I sat back with a sour expression on my face. “What the hell is this?” I wondered. Is this what I was excited for? I was mostly confused because whatever the expectations I had built up about the game, and I couldn’t remember them, there was a nagging feeling deep inside telling me something wasn’t right.
