Call of Duty is finally back, with great multiplayer modes, tons of content in Zombies and fantastic Blackout.

It's hard to pinpoint precisely why Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is a far more enjoyable proposition than its immediate predecessors but Treyarch has somehow managed to crank up the fun factor to the point where even repeatedly dying to far superior players has ceased to be irritating. While it isn't going to make longstanding haters of the series rush out to pick up a copy, the consistently satisfying gunplay, revamped health system, renewed tactical focus, and well thought-out specialist skill-sets all contribute to rejuvenating a series that was, truthfully, starting to feel a bit stale. Sure, the lack of a campaign is a minor disappointment that will dissuade some from making that purchase but the addition of the addictive Blackout mode more than makes up for it in many ways and anybody with more than a passing interest in the Battle Royale genre would be foolish to pass up on the best 'last man standing' experience the current generation has to offer. Get to it, specialist!

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is one of the best multiplayer shooters of the year. Its new proposal and the Battle Royale mode make it a must of this generation.

Treyarch eschewed one of the tent poles of every Call of Duty game since the original, perhaps boldly, with removing the campaign to make the game more omnipresent, accounting for all types of players who enjoy multiplayer gaming. The game now has three powerful modes that offers “something for everybody”. This was previously the case when campaign was a part of it, but there is somewhat of a shift away from single-player experiences, and the direction is shown here. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 almost defiantly makes itself known as the ultimate all-in-one multiplayer experience to play – and does so with incredible confidence and execution.

While the absence of a campaign is upsetting, but Black Ops 4 managed to provide really good content. Zombies mode is entertaining than ever, Multiplayer has its exciting and breathtaking moments and Blackout managed to give us a unique experience with combining Battle Royale and known Call of Duty elements

Black Ops 4 is an excellent entry into the series. Some may mourn the loss of the single player campaign, but this is the tightest most balanced multiplayer the franchise has seen in a long while.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 gives new life to an aging formula, and its three core modes combine to create one of the most complete FPS packages the series has every known.

Black Ops 4's Blackout is clearly the star of the show, with Treyarch making this Battle Royale business look easy, but it's standing on the shoulders of a great all round multiplayer experience and a Zombies mode that's bigger and more streamlined than ever. You might still miss having a single player campaign, and there's work to be done to ensure Blackout's longevity, but this could easily be the start of a new era of Call of Duty.

The lack of campaign is sorely missed in this bold new direction for Call of Duty, but the multiplayer shines like never before.

The best Call Of Duty of the generation and while some will bemoan the lack of a story campaign, it's hard to argue with the quality and quantity of content on offer.

Black Ops 4 offers ingenious innovations such as the exciting blackout mode and a lot of scope. A must-have - except for fans of the solo campaign.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 can be seen as one of this year's best online shooters. Think of the game as if it were an old friend who's come to have a new outlook on life.

Some fans of the Call of Duty franchise may have left, but Black Ops 4 is arguably the best time to come back. This may be the best instalment of the franchise yet.

Multiplayer feels great for veteran players. Zombies is neat if not a bit mundane before it ends. Still, there is a lot here, and for those wanting that online CoD experience will find plenty bang for their buck. I miss the campaign, but they have definitely made up for it for those interested in killing other players online.

Overall, a lack of cohesion hurts Black Ops 4. Playing through every mode is rewarding in its own right, but it doesn't feel like you're working toward anything in the long run.
