Mechstermination Force is a terrific boss-rush adventure that grants a few hours of undisputed, frenetic, and fast-paced gunplay against gargantuan robotic titans.

Mechstermination Force isn’t the longest game, but that’s no negative, just an observation.

I feel that if there was a bit more content and if the waves were more consistent with the difficulty of their bosses, then this game could have been something truly amazing, but as it stands right now, it’s just a good little action game with little else to note.

Mechstermination Force took me around six hours to complete, which I feel was just not enough, I can go back and replay the fourteen levels to beat my previous scores, to gain extra medals for taking no damage during the battle or even add another controller so a friend can come to play with me and have some fun with local play, I feel they could have added a few other modes for it to give extra options of gameplay, maybe even online so you can play as the enemy rather than the hero would be awesome! I enjoyed this game so much and I’m excited to see what other games Hörberg Productions come up with! despite what I feel is a pretty short campaign I’m going to award the Mechstermination Force the Thumb Culture Gold Thumb!

Mechstermination Force is the love child of Contra and Shadow of the Colossus, brought up by loving parents and nurtured into a well-designed experience. The gameplay may throw some people off, with its steep level of difficulty and almost rogue-lite mechanics where you must play to pay for a way to win the day. The visuals are really bright and vibrant, despite the main focus here being ginormous invading robots from another planet who are causing havoc upon the world. As far as Boss-Rush games go, Mechstermination Force sits up there with the best this generation.

Mechstermination Force feels like it comes very close to having a manageable learning curve. Quality-wise, it's great, and a good homage to its boss-filled predecessors. However, there's nothing more game-ruining than, you know, not being able to play the game. There's hard, and then there's hard hard, and then there's Mechstermination Force. It can be done. It can be beaten. I just hope you have a spare hour or two for every boss, and some throat lozenges and ice water nearby.

My complaints with Mechstermination Force are straightforward because that's really what the game is, a boss rush shoot-fest. If the stars align and you can find someone who really enjoys 2D shooters, give the game a go: even its fleeting joy is worth the entry ticket. Hell, it's worth it if you go alone, so long as your expectations are in check.

Mechstermination Force is yet another welcome addition to the Nintendo Switch catalogue, this time in the shape of a game that consists of one boss rush after another. With its tough, demanding and elaborate boss fights, Mechstermination Force is certain to appeal to players looking for a very challenging experience.

Get Mechstermation Force, get a partner if you can, and get ready to save the world. You're going to frequently die trying, but the process will be a blast.
