Despite hewing close to its predecessor, Ghost Recon Breakpoint feels like a step backward for the franchise, with mechanics that hew too close to its open-world cousins.

Bloated, confused, messy- Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a low point for the series.

Poorly stapled-on mechanics and a general lack of polish make Breakpoint's open-world tactics simply not worth the time.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is an average, functional open-world shooter, but not much more.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint provides everything and more that fans of Wildlands loved, but the game is not without its issues.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint has the recipe for being a fun, tactical game to play with friends and strangers alike. While playing solo will remain a decent enough way to experience the game, playing with a group of dedicated friends is what it was made for.

Unlike its predecessor, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint risks alienating the very community it was built for due to its over-reliance on RPG-esque looting and leveling mechanics. However, shooter fans who can make peace with the game's loot-driven economy and pervasive microtransactions will find a lot to enjoy in the moment-to-moment gameplay. Breakpoint isn't quite the tactical shooter sequel fans asked for, but there's no denying the amount of long-term value it offers to shooter fans of all stripes.

As a longtime fan of the series and as someone that honestly tried to give this a shot, I'm sorry to say that Breakpoint is a failure. I suppose the game can only get better from here, but it is not currently in a shape to even be considered finished.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a game that wants to evolve, but has trouble picking a direction. There's an extensive amount of loot, but that can get in the way of player choice in terms of specific playstyle. Equipping loot to keep up your gear score is needed to fight drone enemies, but most human enemies can be killed with a headshot, making it useless at the same time. The survival system is a selling point, but it can be largely ignored. Breakpoint needed a real direction, because what's left is just Wildlands 2.0. And doing the same thing has less impact years later.

In short Breakpoint is a title that will guarantee the fan of the Wildlands a dose that is well-rounded by the ballistic event, albeit with a complementary balance in the production of a second step ahead, as well as a certain aspect.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is huge and quite scenic at times. Unfortunately, the world is bland and empty, the mechanics are flawed, and the gameplay is more irritating than fun. The developers have cobbled too many things together, without fully realizing any of them. If you want a spec-op experience, go back to Wildlands – the last true Ghost Recon installment. Breakpoint is the first game of the Ulbimate genre by Ubisoft – an empty shell with microtransactions.

Ghost Recon: Breakpoint is a tactical shooter with arcade elements that brandishes a new look, the looter-shooter. Though the game could stand on its own without that element, it at least doesn’t take away from the core gameplay.

Sadly, for all of those great challenges in Ghost Recon Breakpoint that are aimed directly at your skills and abilities, there are 14 more targeting your patience. The experience is only made more frustrating when you think about Wildlands, because the formula felt like it had been figured out. Everything was done right. A sequel to that game should've been an easy home run, but Breakpoint is more of an incredible misfire.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been one of the most disappointing titles of the year, and a significant step-back for the franchise, as well as the publisher.

Ghost Recon has moved far away from its tactical military roots, and if you are returning to the series after a long hiatus, you will be disappointed. However, if you’re a fan of Wildlands and modern open-world shooters, then you’ll enjoy this game. For me, it throws too much into the mix and doesn’t really nail any of it, and due to this you are left with a decent shooter which is far from the glory days of Advanced Warfighter. With that said, I award Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint a Thumb Culture Silver Award.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is a messy game that half-heartedly tries to do too many things, resulting in a game that lacks a firm identity as to what it wants to be.

The empty spaces between checkpoints are dull, and the gunfights can be repetitive without a partner in crime. But behind all of its faults, even its painfully jingoistic overtones and its overtly militaristic design hides its true entertainment value.
