Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot on Switch is a stunningly uncompromised port of last year's massive RPG. It looks and runs fantastically, while also including all three DLC chapters in a perfectly portable package.

Kakarot is mediocre as a game, but excellent as a Dragon Ball experience. The combat is just okay, the world is mostly empty, and the game has too much fluff, but as a longtime fan I enjoyed myself a lot.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot suffers from formulaic gameplay, but its world slightly redeems the experience if you're up for exploring.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is the best representation of the series' storyline in over twenty years of games. While animations in cutscenes may be too stiff and there are occasional bugs, the simple yet difficult to master gameplay and the sidequests that succeed in building a world we've already come to love make this a must-play Dragon Ball experience.

As a Dragon Ball love letter, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is nearly perfect, featuring an amazing world and attention to detail.

At the end of it all, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is just the same old Dragon Ball Z story with the Dragon Ball Xenoverse cost of paint and a much shinier graphical upgrade.

The game has some shortcomings as an open world RPG. However when it comes to story, combat mechanics, and battle depictions, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is an enjoyable ride from start to finish. And that remains true whether you’re an old-time fan or a complete newcomer to the series.

DragonBall Z: Kakarot isn't necessarily trying to reinvent the wheel, but it doesn't have to. After years of adding more and more "new" lore to the canon, it's nice to take a trip down memory lane and re-experience the characters and story that makes DragonBall so special. While the open world isn't necessarily the most engaging aspect of the game, the combat is epic and the characters are always entertaining. Simply put DragonBall Z: Kakarot is fun and is sure to please new and old fans alike.

If you’re the type of person who loves revisiting Dragon Ball Z every year, Kakarot can be an interesting way to do it thanks to its unique approach. This mediocre game is surprisingly fun for fans of the anime. However, if you don’t understand the phenomenon of Dragon Ball, don't expect this game to change that.

When compared to other open-world RPGs, I cannot honestly say that DBZ: Kakarot is by any means an amazing game. However, it is certainly the best Dragon Ball Z experiences of our time.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot's power level is not over 9000, and though it suffers from many issues, it's still an enjoyable – if repetitive and inconsistent – experience.

Overall, this Switch version stands up right next to the other versions of Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, and I was pleasantly surprised by it. While some things could be better in the game as a whole it doesn't deter from the overall enjoyment of the story of Dragon Ball. I personally would like to have seen this one start all the way back in Dragon Ball when we first meet everyone, which would truly be a Kakarot story. It is now available on the Switch for 59.99 USD. Have fun with it.

If you are looking for a serious fighting game, this is not for you. I would point this player to something more like Dragon Ball Z Fighters. If you are looking for a game that brings out your inner dragon ball anime-loving child then this is perfect for you.
