Total War: Rome Remastered Reviews
Total War: Rome Remastered makes a grand old game feel less old – but it doesn't make it feel new again.
Total War's first remaster updates a 2004 classic, but this is still a game for those wearing nostalgia-tinted glasses.
Total War: Rome Remastered reflects quality and care from every raised gladius and stray denarius. We think you'll love this, says the remaster. If not, no worries, you can change it. It's more difficult that modern Total War games to get into, but it's undoubtedly a great package. So, two thumbs up then. Or to the side, if you want to be a stickler for history.
Total War: Rome Remastered is the perfect way to relive the old memories and conquer the ancient world once again. The hugely improved graphics, general bug fixing and the with new control schemes and interface also make it a more accessible product for newcomers as well.

Despite the update, its mechanics feel dated.
Total War: Rome Remastered is a great remastering of one of the most influential and important strategy games in the history of gaming, though it is warts and all. Certain improvements are invaluable in bringing the original closer to modern sensibilities, though they only go so far, allowing issues like pathfinding to remain, as well as a dense-as-concrete AI, even though it has been improved. However, no matter the issues, the gameplay is engaging, exciting and most of all, fun. This is a massive game, featuring two extensive expansions that have also been remastered, and one that I would recommend to any fan of the original, any fan of Total War and anybody who wants to ease themselves into the series with a game from simpler times.
Excellent throwback to memories of our younger selves, Total War: Rome Remastered reminds us how good the basics of this series were and how far it has travelled in the last seventeen years.

Not a new game, but a good updating of an older classic. Gamers new to strategy, and those who missed the original, will find this well worth playing.
This new edition is not a simple façade work: the technical update is there and you can see, with support for ultra-widescreen 4K monitors, as well as native UHD resolution, as well as the restoration of polygonal models, effects and physics management. The very heart of the playful experience has been reshaped to adapt to the times that run and this means a functional user interface, minimalist style magazine, slew of twists and useless frills.

A lovingly crafted refresh of a classic Total War game that manages to recapture both its triumphs and its tragedies.
Total War: Rome Remastered is a fine remaster of a classic strategy game. If you haven’t played it, you really should.
This remastered gives a new look to one of the greatest Total War ever made, but the series has gone too much forward in the last years and Total War Rome Remastered sometimes feels like a trip into another era

Entirely cosmetic and rather formalistic remaster without any sign of a spark.

Total War: Rome was the really big breakout moment for the series, and as a bona fide classic, the remaster makes sense - even if it is just for the sake of nostalgia. I don't think the strategy genre necessarily lends itself to modernisation when the thing that needs moderising the most would have taken Rome Remastered and turned it into Total War: Rome 3, but if you remember what it's like to enjoy older strategy games like Rome, the remaster is going to be quite the rush.
Ancient Rome sucks like the good old days, although it is not free from certain problems that can terribly spoil the pleasure of the game.

This is a strategy game that was highly revered for its time, but that time is long gone. Unless you’re a die-hard fan of the original game, there is no way you can say this game holds up today. Its AI and UI are dated and it is very inconsistent with the level of entertainment it provides.
Total War: Rome Remastered is a satisfying experience that lives up to one of the best strategy titles ever created.
I honestly wonder why it was even chosen to be remastered, I feel like we’d be having a totally different conversation if it was Medieval instead. Still it’s here, it’s fun, and it looks great. So if you’re looking to experience some classic classic Total War gameplay, then this is exactly what you’re looking for. Everyone else, there are better Total Wars available. For cheaper too.
Total War: Rome Remastered is a great graphical upgrade of an excellent game, but it suffers from poor AI and annoying bugs.
Total War: Rome Remastered is surely a game of its time. A period where Creative Assembly decided to be bold and push the franchise a step further. The remastered version still has a lot of flaws of the original, but even so is still one of the finest and most fun games the developer has ever created.
