Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin features a deceptively complex combat system with nigh endless monster customisation options. Players can craft powerful monsters by acquiring genes through gameplay, and this system encourages players to continuously battle and collect monster eggs. The story is standard for a JRPG but is elevated by elements from the Monster Hunter universe and high-quality cutscenes. The voice acting and writing is well done, except for the character of Navirou who is a constant irritant. Overall, Monster Hunter Stories 2 offers deep gameplay for those that enjoy complex character building. The PlayStation 4 conversion is dazzling, and anyone who already played it on Nintendo Switch should consider this updated port for its improved fidelity.

This game could easily be dubbed a Pokémon clone. The gameplay differs greatly from the main series, but easily holds its own. Sporting five very different zones, a compelling story and gameplay that should be immediately recognizable, this game fits all new hunters-to-be. Graphics are adequate and load-times are abundant but pretty quick thanks to the SSD drives and power of modern consoles.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a solid and fun JRPG, a good alternative to the main series. Its vibrant and colorful art style still holds up well. The game improves on its predecessor but inherits some limitations in side missions and exploration.

While the story won’t wow anyone, it is sincere in its approach that it’s hard to be disappointed in it. Monster Hunter Stories 2 is great for monster-taming fans, and those who don’t mind a slow-paced game in a gorgeous and inviting world.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin proves the age-old rule that, sometimes, bigger really is just better. A more mature storyline coupled with an improved art style and deeper gameplay makes this the definitive Monster Hunter RPG. It keeps just about everything good about the original game and makes it even better, all while sacrificing none of the charm. If you’re a fan of the monster collection genre, then this will almost certainly appeal to you in many ways. If you’re a fan of Monster Hunter, it may just make all of your dreams come true.

The PS4/PS5 port of Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin looks a bit lackluster on both graphical and technical standpoints compared to what was done to the remaster of the first episode. The sequel taking inspiration from Pokémon to the Monster Hunter formula is still pretty good to this day, and you should get it if you don't have a PC or another console. We however think that 40 euros is quite expansive considering the overall quality of the port.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin accomplishes exactly what a solid sequel should. Everything from the graphics to the game mechanics has been upgraded or tuned in various ways to create a smoother yet new experience. Improved fidelity, stronger ease-of-play, more cohesive maps, and battle adjustments make Monster Hunter Stories 2 a more modern feeling game while unabashedly still being a proper Monster Hunter AND RPG experience.

The Monster Hunter gameplay with the added Pokemon style of collecting monsters and building a well-rounded team to help you along the way is an excellent way to experience the Monster Hunter franchise that I think is easily accessible as well to those that are put off by the more hectic and less forgiving nature of Monster Hunter in general. If you are a fan of Monster Hunter or even turn-based RPGs in general, I think Monster Hunter Stories 2 will be an excellent addition to your library.

A successful spin-off with a fun battle system while keeping several elements of the main series, just in need of the same level of care as its older sister.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 isn't extraordinary by any means, but it's a charming, engaging, colourful experience that's still easy to recommend to fans of traditional JRPGs.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin offers a captivating experience for RPG fans. Its arrival in the PlayStation catalog represents a valuable opportunity for players who enjoy the concept of collecting creatures, a subgenre that has traditionally been more accessible to Nintendo console owners. Furthermore, people with a sense of completionist will find a lot to collect here, be it monsters, equipment or clothing.

Monster Hunter Stories and Stories 2 are coming to new platforms to offer two great classic RPG adventures. The first game improves on a technical level, although it feels aged next to its sequel. There's not too much new content, but if you've never played... This is the best opportunity to do so.

An ideal game to delve into the monster hunter franchise that will help us get to know each one of them, their weaknesses or what parts we can remove from them. Ideal for JRPG lovers and young people since the difficulty is quite affordable

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin is a much-improved sequel. For the most part, it's everything you enjoyed in the first game, but with a plethora of updates, including improvements to combat and exploration. There is just something about collecting these legendary monsters and having them fight by your side that puts a smile on my face.

It's about time Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin made its way onto PlayStation. I'm a bit sad that there isn't a native PlayStation 5 port, but the current PS4 one is solid through and through. The smooth and high frame rates are a treat but the long load times leave more to be desired. If you're looking for a party turn-based JRPG as your next game on your PlayStation, then Wings of Ruin is definitely worth checking out.

While the overall structure of the game hasn't changed, the formula worked and didn't need any major shifts. But when compared to the first Stories — which already holds up really well — the small and large enhancements to every facet of the experience make this sequel a must-play RPG for any fan of the genre, or the Monster Hunter series.
