The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles isn’t perfect, but it’s the closest that the series has ever been to that lofty goal. These games are Shu Takumi at his absolute best, and it’s a blessing that western players finally have the chance to play them without resorting to fan translations. Whether you’re a new fan, or have been with the series from the very beginning, I can’t recommend The Great Ace Attorney: Chronicles enough.
Not only are the two games in The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles remarkable examples of what this series can do, but they deliver a massive amount of content for the price. When played back-to-back, you’re looking at around 70 hours of playtime in total, and that isn’t including all the extra content. I’m delighted that I can now go from desperately wanting Capcom to localize the games to desperately wanting Capcom to announce The Great Ace Attorney 3! These games are full of the same over-the-top craziness and heartbreaking melodrama that makes the series so memorable, and I highly recommend it to both long-time fans and those who are simply looking for a fantastic story. Absolutely no objections here.
It’s a crime that The Great Ace Attorney and its sequel took so long to come to the West. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles bundles in two of the best games in the franchise to date, its improved graphical fidelity setting a new bar for the series. Chronicles doesn’t add much in the way of extra content, but it’s hard to improve on something that was already so good. The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve is the crowning Jewel in this particular bundle, but even Adventures is a must-play for any Ace Attorney fan.
Moving the point-of-view from a lauded white celebrity to a Japanese man out of his depth is a bold move, and one that shows the glaring flaws in the court system and the inherent racist sentiment that guides it. There's not a single case that feels like a throwaway-each serves as a chapter in Naruhodo's path to understanding his own drive for his profession, and carts the player along a grand adventure that overcomes the somewhat static nature present in the original trilogy. It's an absolute must play for any mystery fan out there.
There are many titles like The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles which never get localized for more fans to enjoy, and although it took six years, it's safe to say it was worth waiting for.
Great use of its setting along with the usual dose of charm, humor, smart writing, and a great cast of characters help The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles deliver an incredibly strong package, one that ends up being well worth the very long wait.
You don't need to have played any other Phoenix Wright games to enjoy The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. It is related to the broader franchise (Ryūnosuke is the ancestor to Phoenix), but it's a completely separate adventure. The historical context makes Ryūnosuke's adventure particularly compelling, but even if you're just looking to let that wash over you and be entertained, there's enough humour and style to The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles that the only real problem with it is that it outstays its welcome by just a little too much.
Overall, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is one of the better Ace Attorney games, period. If it had been released in its original form, I'd probably be more negative about it, but getting both parts of Dai Gyakuten Saiban in one nice package emphasizes its strong points and lessens its flaws. If you're a fan of the series, it's absolutely worth picking up, and I can imagine it jumping near the top of many people's favorite Ace Attorney title lists. It has its flaws and foibles, but it's some of the most fun I've had with the franchise to date.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is simply the best experience one can get from the series. It has a cohesive and exciting story with fun and well-written characters. The UI and game mechanics are the most accessible in the series, and the graphics are top-notch. It is a must-buy for fans, and even if you haven’t played any Ace Attorney games yet, The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is an excellent game to start.

Ace Attorney Chronicles is a journey back in time, a lovely example of what happens when you sink into the pages of classics like Oliver Twist and explore a place and a time you don't know, but with the humor and color typical of anime. The case that comes to mind is Samurai Champloo, set during the shogunate and with many examples of what was lived in Feudal Japan, but without seeking to be a kind of history in shape. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is to be one day in a courthouse in Japan and then in London, with the intensity of the trials, the satisfaction of finding the contradictions in the testimonies, watching the scales of the jury tip in your favor, dancing for the deductions and the reward of shouting objection!

I understand visual novels aren’t for everyone, but it’s hard to find a reason not to suggest The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles to even the most ardent visual novel skeptics. With an excellent story, fun characters, and an amazing soundtrack, it really is an excellent game well worth the time spent playing. It does feel a bit derivative of other games in the series, and whether that is good or not depends on how much one enjoys the other games. Still, if you have not had a chance to enjoy the world of Ace Attorney before, I highly recommend picking up The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles for the Nintendo Switch and giving this legal gem a try.
Whether you’re an old fan of the series, looking for a fun visual novel about courtroom intrigue, or just saw a few of the series memes flying around and want to know what it’s all about, you owe it to yourself to pick up The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is not only a compilation of two good games, but also a fun adventure in English courts. Added to this, we have Herlock Sholmes giving a very cool dynamic to the investigations and actively participating in the missions. Even with the pacing problems, the possibility of passing the story automatically relieves, in a way, what would be a tiring game. For newcomers, it is an excellent option to get to know the franchise; for veterans, we have new features that make Ace Attorney even more engaging.

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles offers an exciting evolution to the traditional formula, with this courtroom drama offering plenty of fun across its meaty story. Players can expect to spend over forty hours unravelling each case, but that time will fly by thanks to how well written the characters are, how enjoyable gathering evidence is, and how exciting the courtroom showdowns can be. The new features are just the cherry on top, with the Dance of Deduction and Summation Examination offering some of the game’s finest moments. Whilst I have no doubt that the game won’t be for everyone thanks to the sheer amount of reading involved, fans of the series are sure to love this new venture into the life of being an ‘Ace Attorney’.
I can see now why fans clamored for a proper English localization since its original 2015 release and I can safely say that I am fully joining the ranks of Ace Attorney fans. Ace Attorney’s logic-based puzzle solving, while simple, is satisfying and the game bursts at the seams with strong writing and great characters, all of which has been masterfully preserved thanks to a great localization. If you’re looking for a simple game to play that will suck you in for hours with its intrigue, look no further than The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles.
