But that doesn't change the fact that this is an entertaining and very worthwhile ride, and one that players might want to experience more than once from the beginning to see all of the different ways in which the deadly events at Hackett's Quarry can unfold (including all of the gruesome deaths).

For both gamers and non-gamers alike, The Quarry is well worth playing thanks to its branching storylines, fascinating core mystery and a well realised cast that you’ll want to root for from beginning to end. It might not be as scary as some of the company’s previous games, but there’s still a lot to like and plenty of content worth coming back to.

The Quarry reinvigorates storytelling in horror by giving you more agency as the player, branching off into so many outcomes thus making you want to play again immediately after the credits roll. Backed by clever humour-laced writing, stellar cast performances, interactive depth, this is the new horror game that everyone should be talking about.

The Quarry is the worthy successor of Until Dawn, but also Supermassive's best game so far. With its endearing casting, an addictive story, an astonishing cinematography and a proven formula, The Quarry is a must-play horror game for fans of the genre.

The Quarry is a stylish homage to the classic horror slasher films that so terrified us on those summer nights, delighting any fan of this sub-genre through an intense interactive cinematic experience

For those who’ve been patiently waiting for an up-to-par follow-up to the immensely popular Until Dawn, The Quarry might not be it. While its immersive gameplay and dynamic characters are enough to carry the majority of the game, the title is a narrative adventure with no resolutions for its heroes. A post-credits scene revealing how The Quarry survivors escaped - and what came next - or even just a reunion between the friends after their ordeal would have gone a long way in saving what ended up to be a disappointment. While The Quarry is an impressive graphical showcase of new-gen possibilities, it seems that in terms of story, players will have to continue waiting for a true successor to Until Dawn.

Fans have been waiting for a follow-up with the tone of Until Dawn and it has finally arrived with The Quarry. The very likable cast and the enthralling story will keep players entertained in what is one of the most fully fleshed-out games of this genre to date, but the only question remaining is will you survive the night?

The Quarry is the spiritual heir of Until Dawn: from the exclusive PlayStation of 2015 Supermassive Games takes up various themes, above all the ingenuity and cloying of the adolescent world, exploiting them as a starting point to tell a visceral horror, buried under an ancient mythology and to be discovered.

With strong writing, extreme self-awareness, exceptional performances all around… and a confidence that’s exuded no matter the branching path you find yourself in, Supermassive has outdone itself with The Quarry.

The Quarry proves to be a worthy successor and a notable release within Supermassive’s lineup of branching-path slasher games. A frightful narrative full of tense moments creates a satisfying experience for horror fans, made even better when played alongside others. An ambitious amount of choice proves to be a double-edged sword as the game teeters on the edge of quality and quantity, with one particularly egregious mechanic dampening the experience for those who don’t like to replay large chunks of a game. Though, despite its obvious shortcomings, there’s a level of campy fun that’s undeniable as the game engages from one freaky sequence to the next.

All in all, The Quarry is an intriguing story that's paced well and is tense from beginning to end, aside from a middle chapter that drags. I wouldn't go as far as to say I didn't enjoy it because I did. It feels like such an oversimplification of everything that Supermassive has achieved so far. I can't see it as standing above their pedigree in many respects.

The Quarry may have a fairly predictable plot, but the horror tale gets help up by its all-star cast of veteran actors and up-and-coming performers. They help imbue decisions with both a sense of meaning and weight, so that making a choice provides all the front-seat fun of your favorite horror flick. The game rewards clever reasoning and gathering information for satisfying gameplay, which is only occasionally hindered by bugs and a rushed final act.

We may not have been enjoying it the way Supermassive intended, but that made the experience that much better. I'm thankful that summer camp is over, but I will hold a piece of Hackett's Quarry in my heart for at least a week. It's the slogan of the camp, after all: "What doesn't kill you will make you stronger.

Wearing its VHS horror influences on its sleeve, The Quarry is an engaging and immensely entertaining choice-driven adventure with a killer cast and a fun, knowingly silly storyline.
